Hi! I'm PJ. I was born and raised in Maryland, but am now living in Colorado!!!
I love animals and worked in the Veterinary field for over 14 years before becoming a stay-at-home mommy. I had six cats (Dax, Eros, Fancy, Harlot, Morris, and Barbara), but lost Dax in September 2009 to cancer, Morris in November 2009 to renal failure, and Barbara in May 2010 to neurological disease. I also had three dogs (Rodeo, Sake and Wrangler), but lost Rodeo in October 2010 to bloat. Although it hurts like crazy losing them, I know I will see my sweet furbabies again in the afterlife and that makes me happy.
I'm married to a wonderful man (Chad), he puts up with all my furkids (Barbara, Sake and Wrangler are the only ones that came after we met). He was actually allergic to animals, but went and got allergy injections just so he could date me...yeah, I got lucky meeting him...he knew my furkids weren't going anywhere! I also have two daughters of the two-legged kind (Kimiko and Satori)...both born in October, two years apart (08/10). We are a family of animal lovers and I wouldn't have it any other way! :o)
My very first Corgi was Rodeo. He was a red and white Pembroke born on June 9, 2000. I bought him from a breeder after doing a lot of research about the breed and all the local breeders. He was the love of my life. He went everywhere with me...even to work! He was the veterinary hospital's mascot. We used him to demonstrate to owners how to brush their furkids' teeth, or how to trim their nails. He was perfect in every sense of the word. I lost him 10 days after my giving birth to my youngest daughter. He developed bloat while me, my husband and our daughters ran out to the grocery store. When we returned home, we realized he was in distress and rushed him to the emergency room, but it was too late. I had to make the hardest decision of my life that night. The doctor's only gave him a 25% chance of surviving any type of surgery, so me and my husband decided to let him go peacefully in our arms. Rodeo was 10 years young (06/2000 - 10/2010).
Wrangler came into our lives via rescue in December 2010. After losing Rodeo I found myself looking at all the Corgis on petfinder.com and just admiring them. All of a sudden I came upon a handsome young red and white Pembroke whom they had named Bond. James Bond. He was listed as two states away in Iowa and was adoptable depending on application, interview and a home visit. I didn't see how a home visit would be possible, but I went ahead and filled out the application anyway. Shockingly, I got a response back! We had a phone interview shortly after that, and then a home visit within the next week! We drove to Iowa and picked him up on Christmas Eve (we were visiting family in Omaha for the holiday). We renamed him Wrangler (sticking with the cowboy/western theme of my Corgi's names) which really seems to fit him. He has meshed with our family perfectly and he's my new love. Although I still miss Rodeo something fierce, Wrangler, I feel, saved me from going into a deep depression. I just can't see my life with at least one bunny-butted Corgi in it!
