During the cold winter months, we usually take Griff and our German Shepherd, Zelda, to Canine to Five on Saturday mornings! It's an indoor dog park that is always full of great Detroiters. If anyone is ever in town, or has an inkling to head to Canine to Five from 9am to 12pm, please let us know! We're only 5 minutes away and would love for Griffy to have some Corgi pals.
Canine to Five is located in Midtown Detroit, at the corner of Mack and Cass. It's only a block off of Woodward, so it's a pretty secure location. First-timers need to bring shot records that show your dog is up to date with vaccinations, and the cost is $5 for one dog or $7 for two. You can find all of the info at their website:
Hi, I live in Ann Arbor and just want to advertise a weekly dog gathering I go to with my Paco. Every Saturday 10:30am - 12:00pm roughly. Athletic fields behind Slauson Middle School, Eighth St. and William St. All breeds are welcome, as long as the dog isn't aggressive, and bring a baggie or two.
It'd be really fun to have another corgi to play with. Usually about 50 dogs show up each week.
Not exactly. The borders are: a fence with entrance gaps, the back of the school, a large steep hill, and a wooded ridge & back yards.
We meet in the middle of this open field and very rarely do any of the dogs stray from the pack. They're usually too preoccupied with each other to notice they're off leash.
Hi Everyone! Just found this group and joined! I live in south oakland county area (Hazel Park) if anyone lives nearby for a Corgi play date, let me know!
There's a dog park in Lansing too! Lansing Unleashed Howard and Erna Soldan dog park in Hawk Island Park. Anyone ever been? Bonnie's stlll a little young yet to go until we get her shots and tags done on the 11th.
Hi Stephanie Fox & Bonnie! My parents live in Lansing where we visit during the summer. Maybe when Bonnie gets a little older we could meet up at the dog park! Griff really enjoys dogs his size.
We Lansing area folks should plan a meetup when it gets warm again! ( I so thought we were done with the snow) There's a dog park in Hawk Island, Lansing Unleashed, I've never been but maybe we could have a barbque/ picnic too!
Joel and I took Bonnie to the dog park in Hawk Island for the first time yesterday! It was a lot of fun, we met all kinds of dogs, big and small and walked and played for hours. We were a little nervous taking her off her leash at first but eventually it did come off (it is all fenced in) and she couldn't have behaved better, We were so proud! and as an added benefit she slept all night and even slept in for an hour! We definitely will be going back soon.
Hi! We are located in Ann Arbor, MI. We take our Corgi, Gryff, to the Swift Run Dog Park here in town. He loves it! But we are also interested in the meetup...
I currently have 1 female pup available. Quality, farm raised corgis. Mom is black/white and dad is red/white. Located in Niles, MI. Both parents on premises. One male has gone to a mycorgi.com user.
For more information on the female pup available please visit our farm web-site www.laughinplacestables.com and click on the LPS corgis page! Directions and contact information on the site.
Thanks!
Would anyone else be interested in having a group corgi walk? I was thinking it would be cool to do it along the River Walk in Detroit. There is an outdoor deli where I am sure we should be able to eat that has shaded tables. I'd really like to do a group walk nothing too formal and it doesn't even have to be in Detroit. Just wanted to throw the idea out there and see if there is interest. Let me know.
Awesome! I'm sure there will be more interest too, just need wait for people to respond. I'm not good at waiting. I can just imagine the reaction people would have if dozens of corgis go for a walk down the river front. On a nice afternoon there can be quite a few people and lots of children. I'm excited to see what my Barkley would do at that fountain in front of the rencen. He doesn't enjoy getting wet for the most part but I have a feeling he'd go wild after that fountain.
We're over in Ann Arbor and would like to come over for the River Walk. I haven't been in Detroit before though. I'd need some advice about where to park and ... sorry to say... what areas of Detroit to avoid.
It'll be very interesting with so many corgis! We can hardly go for a walk with just one corgi without being stopped at least 3 times by people wanting to pet him or ask what breed or to talk about corgis.
The people unfamiliar with corgis is what I'm excited about too! Other people get so excited, which makes Barkley and I excited. Don't worry about Detroit being unsafe, the area where we would be walking is very heavily patrolled by police and border patrol. As far as parking I'm not sure. I'm glad you brought it up though because I can do some research tomorrow since I work in Detroit. I will also need to find out if we are even allowed to walk our dogs there and if so what restrictions there are. I don't think I've actually ever seen anyone walking their dogs along the river but hopefully that doesn't mean its not allowed. I don't remember ever seeing any signage restricting it. As far as a date to do this my wife and I were thinking the last Sunday in June 6/28. That is not set in stone yet though so if you want to do this and the date isn't going to work just say so. I'm not in Detroit today but I'll be there tomorrow and find out if we are actually allowed to walk the river front. If anyone knows about this already please let us know otherwise I'll be able to answer this tomorrow.
OK then you don't have to wait until tomorrow. I looked it up online dogs ARE allowed on the river front, so game on! Does Sunday June 28th work for everyone? I'll find out more about parking.
I'm really excited about this!! Barkley has never actually spent time with another corgi since we brought him home. There's an adult corgi that we pass on the other side of a fence when we go for a walk, but I don't really count that because Barkley has only just seen him, not actually played. The river front is a very nice area to walk around, it's probably the safest part of Detroit.
well, Maury just loves other dogs, so Barkley and Maury will get along just fine. Maury is more like a floppy stuffed animal.....he is overly friendly and trusting of everyone.
Our corgi crew can make it June 28th. It'll be fun.
Paco loves every dog and person he meets (unless the other dog shows aggression towards him). Erma is a bit timid still. Maybe by the 28th she'll be ready to play with fellow corgis. Either way she LOVES going for walks and just being outside.
Awesome! If Dennay and I counted correctly looks like we have about 6 corgies that would be there so far and that June 28th would work! Lets get some more corgis! Despite what you hear on the news Detroit is a beautiful city and the walk will be really great!
Hey, just let me know the time and exactly where I can park, hopefully its safe walking distance to the riverwalk and I can bring Katie. She used to be great with other dogs but the last time I took her to a big event (non corgi) there were so many big dogs she got a bit snippy, she was really scared then, I hope she will be ok with dogs of her kind. She should be, its just been such a long time and she has been cooped up all winter. She loves to go bye bye tho....
So 7 corgis so far. I'm thinking around lunch time maybe even a little bit later. Would noon to three work for people? I'll take suggestions. I'll get parking details tomorrow while I'm at work in the RenCen. Here is what I do know about parking. You should be able to park pretty close to the river if not right on it, there is plenty of parking throughout the city but I'm pretty sure you'll have to pay where ever you park. Sorry about that. May be different on Sunday.
that works for us! nice meeting Bob, Dennay, and Barkley today!!
We are looking forward to it, as long as no one minds Maury being a Corgi mix.....shhhhhhh he thinks he is all Corgi...
Hey guys! My husband found out that parking is actually free on Sunday, and it's down by the river. The best parking area is the Rivard Plaza, by the bike rentals and concessions.
Tomorrow (Sat. 6/13/09) at 10:30 lansing corgi meetup at the East Lansing dog park!!! (check out discussion board) Anyone interested please come on out!
Ok. Lansing area: I am available most week nights and week days. No weekends now until August. I am gone the first two weeks of July too. For everyone that worries about those things don't worry the doberman will still be here at my house!! So it is safe for me to give this info out.
