Hey Jenny, several people have thought our little girl Chloe was a sheltie mix. She has a very narrow face for a corgi though. I will admit that while she is obviously all corgi to me, someone who didn't know the breed could easily mistake ours for a mix because her colors are just like a collie or sheltie's.
One time we were at the dog park and there was a beautiful sheltie and everyone kept commenting on how their markings were so similar despite their bodies being so very different!
Hey Stubbs...it is very common for the younger pups to have the appearance of being sable but as they grow and get their adult coats to shed all that out. Some say to have some black hairs in the coat or any black on the face is a sable but to me that is questionable. For Example..my Kiara has black on her ears and around her muzzle and throughout her body but I don't consider her a sable like Meagan. My new pup has black hairs on her back and on her face and so far am considering her a light sable. We shall see. Some pups that are real prominant as being sable are the ones w/a lot black around the face. You can see the shadowing and look at the root of the hairs as well.
As it was eplaned to me by a long time breeder, a sable by AKC standard is a red dog with black hairn but the long time standard is a red dog with a black munks cap and black hairs and even rarer is one with a racoon mask.
Hello, my name is Andrea and my dog's name is Eddie. He is registered as a Sable with White markings, but same people have said he is Red & White with Sable markings. His undercoat is black, which makes his top coat look like a very rich red color, except when he is out of coat then he looks semi-orange in color lol. But the end of his tail and most of the underside of his lower jaw is black. Feel free to look at my photos and give an opinion. ^_^ The 2 professional photos that I had taken were when he was out of coat, so you can see the difference in color the black undercoat makes.
Sables have black in their coat. Most corgi puppies look gray or the color muddy looking. They will not get brilliant colors til later. When you have a blond puppy they are what you call a true red because they have no black in their coat and you can tell this when they are born. They will then get a more redish coat and the blond with disappear and they will look just like the other red and whites. I will post a picture later of a litter I had with a true red, sable, red and white, and tri colored puppy all in one litter.
The tails are docked a 3 days. They are w year old now. The sable out of my other litter o 3 at the same time is now a UKC Champion and working on his AKC championship. I think he turned out so nicely. He really nice lpoking boy.

They are all sold. We breed them more than a year ago. We are having another two litters this spring one pems and one cardis. If you want to see the puppies older go to my website www.kannard.com/LD/LD.html
This is our little Max. He is a 15 month old sable pembroke with a natural docked tail. I wonder if they always have the little "pony tail" at the end when they are naturally docked.
After meeting Edison last week at our first Toledo Area Corgi meet up and talking to his owner Kerstyne, I realize that Nellie is indeed a Sable Corgi. She and Eddy are actually "brother" and "sister" as they have the same parents (Their Mom is a Sable Corgi)! Thank goodness for this website or we would never have gotten together.
This is Cooper...my first Corgi. Retrievers have always been a part of our lives (and still are) but now that three out of four children are out of the house, I decided it was time for me to finally add my Corgi. Cooper is 15 wks old and we've had him for 2 weeks now. I am SO in love with this little guy!! He thinks Bailey- our black Lab- is a big black sheep...you can picture it. And like your beautiful Cooper, Tina, mine is also a fan of the herb garden..... Love seeing all of the pics of other Sables!!!
Randy has quite a bit of black on his face and his back looks gray from all the black in his fur. His mom is a true red/white and his father is a tri. Leo looks alot like his dad but with more white. Randy looks to me like he will be sable even after growing up. Right now at about 7 weeks he is sable.
Hi everyone! It's been a while since I was on here. My life has been crazy. I just lost my stepfather to cancer and now my mom needs a Corgi more than ever. She really likes the sables and would love to keep my Brodey, but I just can't give up my little boy. Does anyone know of breeders that consistently breed sables? She is in Virginia and I am in Florida. My in-laws are in Minnesota. I just need to get her a wonderful dog as stately as my step-father. He picked the name before he died. Winston. Can you help me find him?
