Any kind of Corgi is welcome to this group! From those who are from Olympia, Vancouver, Seattle and even Pullman! I've hardly seen Corgis in Washington, but this group continues to prove me wrong!
My dogs love the snow! They go crazy in it and it's so funny to watch them hop in the snow when it's too deep. We have a lot of snow here in Pullman, but they just sit at the door and then look back at me like, "mom! can we go play now?!"
While I love the fact that the cougars beat the huskies this past football season, I would TOTALLY switch to any school that had a corgi as their mascot! ha ha. But don't tell anyone; that's like blasphemy over here in Cougar Land!
I live in Washington but must admit am an Oregon alumn and Duck fan! My Corgi also prefers barking at Ducks. I think Huskies or Cougars would frighten him!
In Pullman, some people have these fake cougar statues on their lawn. Everytime I walk our corgis by them, it always freaks them out and they start barking. Kinda funny-
My best friend is at Western Washington and he loves the Ducks! He even came over and watched the Ducks slaughter the cougars; which entitles him to bragging rights for a whole year.
My dogs bark and stationary objects all the time; mainly mopeds and motorcyles. It cracks me up!
Book review: Garth Stein, "The Art of Racing in the Rain", 2008
Anybody who's loved a dog will like this book, especially if they're from the PNW. Several creatively mixed elements: part schmaltzy tragic romantic tearjerker, part melodrama with heroes and evildoers, part inspirational meditation, with sudden plot twist and adventure, and... uh... race car driving? Set in Seattle.
Garth Stein, apparently, is a dog.
Already, I'm thinking a little more thoughtfully about our corgwyn...
Re: Art Of Racing In The Rain
I had the same opinion of the book as you did John. It was one of the best books I've read in a very long time and yes, you look at your dog a little differently after reading it. It made my heart break and it make my heart soar. A must read.
Corgis as hunting dogs?!?
I met a bow hunter at a trailhead in the Cascades once. He remarked on my dog, and said someone he knew used to hunt BEAR -- back when this was legal -- with 4 CORGIS. "Good noses, not afraid, but smart enough to know when to back off." Hard to believe, but that's what he said, and no reason to be making up a tall tale. Hidden talents?
I hope you weren't meaning "tall tale" as a pun XD Ok sorry I should go crawl back in my homework hole, but I couldn't help myself John. And who knows! I think all dogs can do what ever someone trains them too, though some dogs are certainly smarter than others. A corgi's intelligence I believe would greatly lend itself to hunting of any sort. Though I don't think I would EVER pit a corgi against a bear!
Happy to find other Washington corgi owners here. :-)
I have a GSD and a cardi. I am a member of a schutzhund club with my GSD and we're holding a AHBA herding instinct test in March of 09 at Ewetopia. This seems to be turning in a corgi event as there are a bunch of cardigans entered. If you are interested you can check it out on line here:
http://www.twincountyschutzhundclub.com/Upcoming_Events.html
Great! Two others from My Corgi may be coming. And if you click my name to go to my page I have more info I posted in my Comments section. Hope to see lots of folks from this site there!
If anyone thinks they will probably come I suggest you pre-enter or email to reserve a place. You can do that here:
http://www.twincountyschutzhundclub.com/Upcoming_Events.html
Having an idea of how many may show up will help me decide when to stop promoting the event so we have spaces for late comers available.
Is anyone else in this group a member of the Corgis R Us Meetup group (based out of Kirkland, I believe)? I found out about it a few weeks ago and joined, and I am anxiously awaiting the next corgi get-together. I think there's something planned in May, but I am hoping maybe they will schedule something before then, too.
Is anyone out there looking to add another corgi to their family?. I just saw a Corgi on petfinder at a shelter in Pocatello, Idaho. The dog's name is Mickey She has had puppies that will be avail. 4-10-09. Mickey is a beautiful red. Her puppies are listed as Corgi/Chihuaha.
I want Mama Mickie...too bad she's in Idaho, I wouldn't know how to go get her. Don't have the money to fly either. Poor Mickie, imagine the horrid experience she have endured in a abandon home. I seriously wish I can have her and give her all the love that she have missed. Have soom fun with my Corgi's. : )
We're Eastern Washington originals, up the Columbia in the teeny tiny town of Brewster. I'm a Coug by graduation and simple love for the inept--mostly--WSU teams. If I have to pledge a second school, I'll pick Purdue where I also graduated from. My Hurricane Hugo (cwc 1995-2006) and I made a cross country trip in his truck to WA from NC and back. The cows fascinated him--He tried to make me stop the car but we were on a roll and there were plenty of cows in E. Washington. All the cardis in my household are true NC natives--but they would never support Duke, NCState, or Chapel Hill in anything--they tell me they like the Pack10 (Go, Wazzoo) and the Big (cardi)10--Go, Boilers. Ok, and we love the Cubbies and the Mariners, even though they're on the wrong side of the Cascades.
Please help if you can . . . pass along to other dog lists (I've already sent it to corgi-l and showcardi)
Thanks,
Melissa Bee
Anthony and Debra Pepe asked to post and request that you repost to any 'doggy' lists with members who may live in the area.
Their beloved 3 year old red and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi bitch (in show condition) escaped from being temporarily boarded in the Elkton, MD area early this week, and despite great efforts by everyone, has not yet been located.
She is microchipped and friendly, although undoubtedly frightened (they've had severe thunderstorms in the area which haven't helped with that, or with tracking efforts).
Please remember this little dog and the Pepes in your prayers, and reach out to any other lists in case there are any dog lovers in that geographic area MD/PA/DE) who may still be unaware. Anthony has to return to work in NJ this next week for a few days but will be back in the MD area soon--his cell phone # is 732-713-1709 and you can leave a message with any info or sightings.
Hi everybody it's great that theres a group here as well as at meetup.com for local portland/vancouver owners, to be able to play at the park with 30 other corgis and their owners, and get advice and info. The corgi community is amazing!!
There's a meetup.com group up here in the Seattle/Bellevue area, too! Isn't it great to go to those get-togethers and enjoy watching dozens of corgis romping around playing together? :)
ALERT!! Want another corgi? Check out the gorgeous boy on the Seattle Craiglist for pets. he is in Monroe. I don't know how these people can leave him behind! Please let me know if any of you give him a good home.
Really?! there is a corgi on craigslist?! i cant find it is the title?! Or link.. My cousin is a Vet tech & knows lots of people to give him a good home.
It says he's mostly an outdoor dog...won't work for us since we don't even have a yard. :( Not that we should really take on a fourth pet right now anyway, but I still catch my husband searching for corgis on Petfinder every now and then. :)
First, I hope that everyone and their corgis are surviving the heat! I filled up the bath tub with cold water in hopes that my dogs might play in it, but they ran and hid thinking it was bath time instead. :(
Second, I recently joined meetup.com and the group Corgi's R' Us. There is a dog walk happening on August 15 at 9 a.m. and I was just wondering if anyone on here was going. My husband Erik and I really want to go, so hopefully we can!
Lastly, John, your pictures are so beautiful and they made me smile! :)
That's the meetup at Green Lake, right? Yes, Joshua and I will be there for sure! Not sure about my husband...he's much less interested in walking 3 miles around a lake than Joshua is. ;)
me and my little girl Selphie are from Tacoma, WA
and we go to the off leash dog park in Steilacoom quite often:D
if you see us, my little girl is prob running and licking all the people, yet immediately cowers and roll son her back around other dogs:)
:( Hey guys, since moving to Bainbridge Island, Erik and I have been couchless and my mom was nice enough to buy us one. Well tomorrow morning is the delivery date for our new sofa and that means that I won't be able to be there for the walk around Green Lake. I was really looking forward to meeting other corgi owners in the Seattle area, but maybe a few of you will be at the campout in September. Anyways, have a great time tomorrow!
Joshua and I had a great time at both the walk at Green Lake and the corgi picnic in Woodinville today! My tired Cardi is happily sleeping at my feet after quite an exciting day. :-)
I lost my Fergus September 8,2009 due to the effects of DM. I am devastated. I have his sibling sister and so far she is well. I was wondering if anyone can give me names of reputable breeders who test for this condition. She and I are very lonely. Thank you
I am so sorry to hear about Fergus, Wendy! We lost a corgi last year too, and it was just devastating. I hope you are doing okay.
I believe the breeder we adopted our corgi from last year, Kathleen at Castell Welsh Corgis (in Parma, Idaho) tests for DM. She's a very knowledgeable breeder - it might be worth calling or emailing her about your needs. Here is her website: http://www.angelfire.com/id/castellpwc/
