Any kind of Corgi is welcome to this group! From those who are from Olympia, Vancouver, Seattle and even Pullman! I've hardly seen Corgis in Washington, but this group continues to prove me wrong!
Oops, I should clarify that I was talking about 2 different corgis below - the one we lost last year was a rescue corgi who we found out had kidney failure. The one we got from Castell Corgis after that is our current corgi, Joshua.
Wow, I agree! Finding a corgi in WA seems next to impossible! I found a breeder in Pullman, emailed and called, no response!!!! I would love any help! I miss my babies so much and feel lost without them around!
That's too bad that breeder in Pullman didn't respond to you! I think there are several corgi breeders in Washington, although I haven't talked to any of them personally (as I said below, we got our Cardigan from a breeder over in Idaho). Good luck!
We got 2 of our corgis from a breeder here in WA (one of them passed away) :( but they are called Welbea Kennels and their website is www.pittmanhome.com and I just looked-they don't have any pups to adopt right now, but they might soon!
I know of three breeders in Eastern Washington: www.corgipuppies.net is in Spokane Valley and www.corgilane.com is in Thorp (by Ellensburg) the other is in Colville I can't find her address but if you want it I can come up with it.
CPWCC
This site has many links; a good place to do research if you're looking for a pup. I'd suggest looking at the Specialty Results for the past several years; that might give you an idea of who's active in showing around here.
There are a lot of breeders on the west side. We of course are partial to Carrie Hale, but our neighbors have a wonderful corgi from Teresa Blackstad in Sandpoint ID.
Hey guys! I noticed this group seems to be a bit inactive, but I figure I'll try anyway. Toast's final shots are coming up in a few weeks and we're excited to take our little girl out hiking and for walks! Do you guys have any suggestions? And does anyone near the Spokane area feel like meeting up for a walk?
Hi Samantha, welcome!
As far as hiking suggestions, I live in Vancouver area so can't help with specific locations in your neighborhood.
BUT I will suggest that a good flea & tick treatment is in order!
We keep Birdie on Advantage, and it has saved a great deal of headaches. :)
Welcome Samantha! Sorry I don't have any suggestions because I live in Kent and am not really familiar with the Spokane area...but I hope you find some fun places to walk!
Is anyone in this group part of the Corgis R Us group on www.meetup.com? I can't remember if I've asked that before or not. Now that spring is on the way they are starting to plan some more get-togethers around the King-Snohomish-Pierce county area. Good times! :)
I just grabbed a Wa. State gazette map book and head to any of the nearby lakes that I can find. If it there is a dotted line going to the lake; then you've got yourself and trail and a happy corgi.
Hi Samantha, Willow loves walking on the Centennial Trail behind SFCC. There's even a good place in that area to take a swim in the summer. Manito is another place we frequent, and provides excellent practice for socializing. Good luck!
We were thinking of trying Manito :) I also just remembered the trail behind SFCC - had to do some wandering back there for my Environmental Science class. I'll try that first.
Corgi Herding Instinct Test at Ewetopia, Saturday June 19th
This is a fun way to introduce your Corgi to herding! For more information go to CPWCC.org and click on Events. E-mail Linda at mylincorgis@msn.com if you are planning to enter, this event is in danger of being canceled due to low entries this year.
Ashton is signed up to go. We really hope this isn't canceled since we were really looking forward to this event. That and I used a hotel points system to reserve our room and it can't be canceled. :P It's open to all corgis and their "buddies", no herding experience is necessary and spayed/neutered dogs are allowed! Ewetopia also has a dog park and agility equipment you can let the dogs play on.
If you are looking for something fun to do with your dogs here's a great opportunity! Please email Linda before June 12th to let her know you are planing to attend the event. Hope to see you there!!
Hello :) I'm a new member. It was suggested that I join this site in my quest to find a corgi to join my family. So, I do not yet own one. I do have an aussie so I'm all prepped to do herding and agility training! Happy to be here and hope to get to know some locals with corgis. :)
Cascade Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club 5TH Annual Corgi Fun Day

Registration begins at 9:00 am.

Bring your family and your Welsh Corgi(s): Pembroke, Cardigan, or Corgi mixes. We will have Obedience, Rally, and Agility Demonstrations, CGC testing, Fun Games to Play, Costume Contest, Pictures with the “Queen”, Raffle, and Corgi related items for purchase. Please join us for a full, family friendly day. Lunch will be available (Donations welcome).
If you go to the CPWCC link above the registration form is there for download so you can have it filled out before the event to save some time. We went last year and it was a blast. Fun corgi games, items to purchase and demos. Plus you get to hang out with the coolest people in the world - other corgi owners!
Darn, we are going to the Corgi Fun Day (see you there Devin!) in Everett! I am definitely up for a meet up sometime Kelly. :) We were debating a quick day trip over to Kennewick today for a PetSmart run but got caught up doing chores around the house. Darn chores getting in the way of corgi shopping time!! lol
Rachel and Oliver, do you guys ever go to the dog park at State Line? If you are up for a meet up let me know.
I was wondering if maybe we could have an eastside get-together at a park, have a picnic, maybe some dog games, etc. If everyone's dog is okay off leash we don't need to look for a fenced yard, somewhere pretty and easy to get to might just be fun. Then we should also decide on a day...this weekend or maybe later in September? Anyone ideas?
Kelly, by Eastside do you mean "the Eastside" or east of the Cascades? If you're talkin' Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue area I'm in as long as it's not the 24th or 25th (disc golf tournament in Olympia). I wish I could provide a yard for this but I'm in a capitol hill condo....
Gail and Ashton, I'm not familiar w/ that park. We moved here from the Portland area about a year ago. Where is it?
Emily and Willow, yay! Spokane Corgi's. :) We usually walk around Comstock or Manito. If you ever want to meet Oliver, let me know. He's really good w/ all dogs. He's just a year old, so he has a lot of puppy spirit.
Oops, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm talking about the dry side of the state...east of the Cascades. It's a four+ hour drive to the Corgi gathering this weekend and I won't be able to make it.
Rachel and Oliver, the SCRAPS Dog Park is really close to Idaho. If you go to the link above it has some info about the park. We usually hit the park when we go to Spokane for shopping trips. Moses Lake is such a dinky town we don't have PetSmart, Petco or even a dog park! *cries*
I do have a suggestion for all you corgi slaves in the Spokane area. Spokane Valleyfest 2010 has a Responsible Dog Owner Day on Sunday, September 26. We went last year and it was a fun day out with Ashton. They had demos, CGC testing, information booths plus all the vendor booths for the Valleyfest. After that we just went a few more miles down the road for some off leash time at the dog park. It might be a nice place for a little corgi gathering. :) Unfortunately for us we are going to miss out on this event this year since we will be at a dog show in Shelton, Wa so if you guys go you'll have to tell us about it!
The Responsible Dog Owner Day on the 26th sounds like a lot of fun, and Spokane is only two and a half hours away. Another event people might like to attend is the Dog Show here in the Tri-Cities, on October 2. In addition to having it held in Columbia Park along our gorgeous river, it's also a major show for Corgis. I've seen years where there are 35+ Corgis competing from around the Northwest.
No problem, Valleyfest was fun last year. They had a herding demo that Ashton thought was really exciting since they had a bunch of ducks running around. lol
To add to Kelly's post, the Richland Kennel Club's Dog Show in the Tri-Cities is also hosting the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America Specialty on October 1st. So if you want to see only Cardis that is the place to be! So all Cardigans on the 1st, then you can see them along with Pembrokes the next couple of days in the All-Breed shows. It will definitely be a corgi filled weekend in the Tri-cities. :)
The judging program isn't out yet but I'll try to keep an eye out for it. It usually doesn't come out until the week right before the event.
Most specialty shows start in the morning, figure 8ish, and runs throughout the day. Usually there is a ring for conformation, one for obedience and another for rally. Sometimes they combine the obedience and rally rings if it's a smaller show. Oh, and did I mention there is usually vendors selling pet stuff at these shows?! Hmmmm, shopping....
Hey guys! I hope that everyone has been doing well, I haven't really been on here too often, my husband, myself and my two corgis have moved across Washington this last year after finishing college, and we've just now settled down in Elma, Washington. We live on a dairy farm, so it's lots of fun to see how the dogs react to the cows :)
Wow, You and Sophie have a great beach! We live up in Blaine and have to walk quite a ways to get to the beach. But it is worth it. They love it there. How long have you had Sophie. She looks like our Mato.
Hi Melanie - yes we have the beach real close by! I now Blaine isn't that far away from us. So nice to me you and your three darlings! Sophie turned 2 in August, I've had her since Dec 08 - so going on 2 years. Sophie loves to wade in the water and she swims a little, but she won't go out very far from shore. Do yours like to swim? No doubt they love to dig in the sand - a great pastime for all corgis I think!!!
Our two Pems don't like to get more than their toes wet, but Baloo likes to swim and will go over his head for a stick or after birds in the water. Yeah, digging in the sand is great, better than in the garden or making molehills even bigger which my parents don't appreciate.:-)
