Washington State Corgis

Any kind of Corgi is welcome to this group! From those who are from Olympia, Vancouver, Seattle and even Pullman! I've hardly seen Corgis in Washington, but this group continues to prove me wrong!

I just came across this young male corgi on Petfinder.com and thought I'd share in case anyone in this group would be interested in adopting him. He looks very much like my Cardigan, Joshua, in the photos, however they are labeling him a "Welsh Corgi Mix" so who knows. They say he has a slight limp probably due to hip dysplasia. He's quite adorable, but he wouldn't be a good fit for our home, unfortunately, due to our lack of yard and lots of stairs, etc.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in adopting Cody from the King County Animal Shelter in Kent, check out this link:

Bonnie (my fawn and white) has got herself some sort of eye cold. She's producing a lot of goop from one eye and she squints from it a lot. Clyde want's to lick it so I've put her in her cage when I'm not home to keep him from messing with it. I've been wiping it with a warm wet washcloth every 30min to 1hr or so when I'm home but I have to work this weekend. Do any of you have any advice on helping her heal faster?
  • Carole and Sophie

Devin - this happens to Sophie's right eye. Over a year ago I took her to the vet and they gave me some drops that seemed to clear it up but as soon as I stopped them her eye began to wheep again. Hers is more runny not goopy (but it does get goopy now and then). So, I would advise a check with your vet - they do have drops that will clear it up.
  • LaVerne & Shirley

Hi Devin I agree with Carole. I would have my Vet take a look. I've seen where a goopy eye can become quite a problem. Better safe than sorry! Good luck and keep us posted!
  • Devin Corbett

I've started washing her eye out with a saline solution eye wash (sensitive eye kind) 4x daily and a half benadryl 2x daily on recommendation. Her eye seems to be clearing right up! If it doesn't clear up fully by wed I will check on those drops you're talking about. Thanks Everyone!
  • Yuki Norton

Hello fellow Washington residents. My Leo and I are very pleased to be apart of mycorgi.com and now apart of the Washington State Group. I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully meet up with some of you soon.
  • Sarah

Welcome Yiki! What part of the state are you and Leo in?
  • Yuki Norton

@sarah, I'm just north of Seattle, Mill creek area.
  • Devin Corbett

WOOT! welcome Yuki! isn't it great to have corgi love in NW Washington! I take my corgi to a buddies house in Mill Creek/Thrashers Corner area all the time! What parks are good in your area?
  • Janet Reed

Hi there...I am a Pembroke owner in Newport, WA which is (for those of you on the OTHER side) North of Spokane! Would love to hook up with some Spokane area Corgi's

Hi, we recently moved to the Kitsap Penisula.  Are there any good dog parks / Corgie groups in the area?  I'd like to continue working on Malibou's social skills, as she is a little timid (but well behaved). - Alan -
  • Kelly

Good Morning Alan,I also have a shy Corgi and I found the dog park to be too much for him.  I never knew what type of dog(s) would be there and with all of them off leash, the more assertive dogs would overpower, and frighten my guy.  I found that dog training classes were much more effective.  He took Canine Good Citizen, Basic Obedience, Rally, a couple of Agility classes, and Tracking.  I also take him into a dog-friendly business once a week (with lots of treats for reinforcement of confident behaviors) and walk all three of my dogs in a public park  once a week as well.  After two years, he's friendly with most people and dogs and now only quietly growls and turns away in uncomfortable situations.  Good luck, all the time and effort you devote to your dog-buddy will be worth it!

  • Tucker and Abby

Alan, if you are in the Gig Harbor area, Bandix park is very big with lots of trails; there is a big common area where the dogs play and can socialize, but once you hit the trails, you rarely run into anyone else unless the park is very busy, so it's great if they need a "time out" for a bit. Howe Park is in Port Orchard, and that one also has a few small trails, but there tends to be more bigger dogs especially on the weekend and many of the dogs are not well trained that visit - we've left that one on more than one occassion due to other dog's bad behaviors.

Both Bremerton and Poulsbo have dog parks, but they are very small compared o the other two. Poulsbo is often empty though, at least when we visit. And if you are on the other side of the Tacoma Bridge, the Steliacoom dog park is just wonderful. There is a smaller dog area plus a second big area and I have found that 99.9% of the dogs that visit are very well behaved at that one. (It's our favorite for socializing)

I can *finally* get a corgi! My husband and I are moving into a new, larger, house with a big fenced back yard. Rental, but allows dogs. So now the hard part; finding one.
  • Sarah

That's exciting Michaela, good luck! Corgis are hard to find in shelters and rescues...there were a couple on Petfinder a couple of weeks ago but of course they were adopted quickly. There are several breeders around the Pacific NW, that's probably your best bet, whether you want a puppy or adult corgi.
  • Chae and Ponyo

I started emailing with a bunch of breeders that I'd emailed a few years ago when I was looking. Fingers crossed, maybe one of them will be planning a litter this year. :)
  • Pam Hagen

You might try Gay Gausman in Sultan, WA  lottacorgis@comcast.net.  I got a corgi from her last year.  She breeds wonderful dogs, and has a wealth of knowledge.  I would highly recommend her.  Pam H
  • Jay

Michaela, I forwarded your post to a lady who breeds cardigan corgis.  She was looking to rehome a young adult about a month ago for someone who couldn't keep their dog.  Not sure if they found a home yet or not.

    Melanie

  • Chae and Ponyo

Melanie, if they didn't find a home yet we'd be interested. My husband had to give up his two dogs after his divorce when he had to move and it was so hard on him, so he understands the importance of making sure your dog finds a good new home.
  • Jay

I am told she has been placed.  Sorry.  Apparently there is a Corgi rescue dog  here in Washington.  Go to www.cardigancorgis.com and there is a breeder list link and a rescue link.
  • LaVerne & Shirley

Hi Michaela  I was told by my agility instructor that she knows of a 7 year old female AKC registered Pembroke that needs a new home. Her owner passed away I believe. I dont have any details but I would sure try to find out if you are interested. We are in Wenatchee.
  • Chae and Ponyo

    We'd definitely be interested!
  • LaVerne & Shirley

Hi Michaela! I just sent you a friend request with the number of the lady who has the Corgi that needs a new home. Good luck and keep me posted!
  • Chae and Ponyo

Awesome, thanks! I'll call her tomorrow. :)
  • Alan & Lisa

Kelly / Tucker, thank you for the recommendations. I live in Kingston and will continue to look around for opportunities for Malibou to socialize with dos her size. In the mean time, she goes hiking and camping with the family and gets out when we do.
  • Chae and Ponyo

I left Kathy a message, haven't heard back yet.
  • Chae and Ponyo

I managed to get Kathy on the phone and told her we're interested. She said she'd get back to me this weekend, but if she doesn't there's another adult corgi on Whidbey Island that needs a home that we might go for instead.

  • Chae and Ponyo

Angel, the rescue corgi from Whidbey Island, is coming to live with me on Friday! I'm so excited! She was rescued from an animal hoarder, and while she wasn't abused, she was fed waaaay too much and not exercised, so she has some pounds to lose. But then, so do I. ;) The woman who has her now says she's super sweet and just needs lots of love and reassurance. She's 2 1/2.

  • LaVerne & Shirley

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Michaela! I am SO happy for you AND your new Angel.  I cant wait to see her! Congratulations!!!
  • Jay

YaaaY!!! Happy news for you and Angel.  I am so glad for both of you.  You will be so blessed with all the love and cute corgi stuff they do.  Our Dini is a rescue dog and while she bonded with me really fast, it took her a year to want to go out the door without me.  Now she wants to go out with the other 2 all the time.  Congrats again.  Keep us updated!!!
  • Chae and Ponyo

Angel's here! She's adorable. I just uploaded a bunch of photos. XD
  • Jay

Looks like the "bonding" is no problem!!  :-)  Congrats to you on your new family member!
  • Emily & Willow

Congrats! She looks like a sweetheart.
  • Carole and Sophie

Oh Angel is so sweet - and she looks like she loves you both already!
  • Jamie Jo

I started this page when I was going to college in Pullman right after my husband and I got two nine-week-old tri-colored corgis in 2008. We named them Penny and Lucy and we shortly became a very close knit family.

On April 8th, we decided that since we weren't going to breed our dogs that it was probably time for us to have them fixed. Later that day we noticed that Lucy was acting very unusual but we just attributed it to the surgery and the drugs. By 11 that night, we were at the emergency vet hospital where we had to put her to sleep due to copious amounts of internal bleeding. I've never felt any kind of hurt like this before and I just wanted to write to everyone and tell you to hug your puppies and snuggle them as much as you possibly can, as you never know what might happen next.

    Much love,

    Jamie Jo and Penny

  • Tucker and Abby

Oh Jamie Jo, I am so very sorry for your loss! Your poor baby! Was it neglect on the part of the vet? If it was, I hope you'll share which vet it was so we can all avoid them!
  • LaVerne & Shirley

Oh no.........I am so so sorry. I dont know what to say.......Im stunned. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  • Jamie Jo

Thanks for your condolences. We had her fixed at the Elma Vet Clinic. We had her fixed on a Friday and when we went in on Monday morning, they had already received a fax from the Emergency Vet where we had her put to sleep. They were very apologetic and refunded us the price of spaying her, but to us it wasn't about the money, it was that we had lost our dog. Penny was really lost at first and went from room to room whining, but she's a lot better now :)

  • Devin Corbett

Jamie Jo, I'm so sorry this happened! A loss like this is so hard, Your family is in my thoughts!
  • LaVerne & Shirley

Jamie Jo, I dont know if you like to read but if you do I highly recommend "A Dogs Purpose" Its a wonderful story and it may comfort your heart. (((Jamie Jo)))
  • Chae and Ponyo

I'm so sorry for your loss, Jamie Jo. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling. Our thoughts are with you.

  • Jay

Sorry to hear of your loss.  I can only imagine how tough it is.  So sorry, but I haven't been on her lately.  What a tragedy,  Hugs to you.
  • Ashlee Taylor

I Talked to our Vet and she said that Ticks were going to be really bad this year, I just wanted to let everyone know. I've found one on my corgi last week, and my neighbors found five on their horse.
  • Jamie Jo

Hooray for sunshine coming our way :)

In other news, the husband and I (and Penny Pooch too!) have decided that we are interested in looking for another corgi. If any of you guys know of a breeder in Western Washington, please let me know!

Many thanks and enjoy the sunshine!

  • Mystic

Jamie, I sent you an request.  I forgot to add my cell#  just email me back ok?  Check my pups pics, they are pure breed.  I have 7 Corgis go figure, long story.

I work on post, but I will check my email.  Didn't realize how close we live by each other.

  • Jamie Jo

Our little guy Copper that we just got :) He's nine weeks. Our older Pem doesn't like him at all, but we're hoping that she'll adjust quickly. Any tips on having the two corgis get along?
  • Adriana, Henry, & Catherine

When I brought Catherine home Henry wasnt thrilled. He sniffed her a lot for the first day then the second day he started licking her. I would recommend just letting them be normal around each other. Don't interfere unless your older corgi is mean to the newer one. Hopefully after a couple of days your older one will warm up. Try getting them to play together using one toy between them. That helped my dogs. I was so nervous but it definitely worked. Now they are two peas in a pod. =)

  • Jamie Jo

Gary, your three dogs are very cute =)

Our new puppy Copper and Penny Pooch are getting along really well now. They love to FRAP around the house and play tug-o-war . Hooray!
