When we purchased Tucker at 9 weeks he was sable. See photo. Now he has turned red but still has sable marking's in his face. So what would he be considered? Red/white or sable? I am confused. Here is a then and now.

Oh my, Randy is getting more blond every day...will he get thrown out of the group? LOL. I really want him to be sable, but if not he is still one heck of a great puppy.

Randy now at almost 10 weeks.

Dylan (the little guy) is a sable.
  • Amanda + Beverley

My little girl Beverley started off with a lot of black fur on her back, but since she has grown out of her puppy coat she only has a little black on her tail. I'm not really sure if thats still considered sable...

Wasn't sure what Samantha was (is) going to end up looking like. But at 18 and ahalf weeks this is what our baby girl looks like.

Over the past week and a half I have noticed my little Henry who is 10 1/2 weeks getting more and more black on his back and he is starting to show some on his face too. Mainly on his nose and around his mouth. His mom is a red and white and his dad is a tri. I love every minute of him and don't wish him to grow up to soon but I am curious to see what he will look like as he gets a little older. =)

Gem is our sable corgi and the tag picture is her little bro Edward. Gem is a real sweetie who is 9months old and enjoys going to the lake and helping to herd up Edward when he gets into mischief.

Our new corgi Billy has a strip of black tipped hair on his back, he's so cute!

    Henry at 3mths 3wks.

  • Shockoe "Bottom" Bell

6 Weeks vs 3 months. Shockoe was officially listed as a Sable and White on the Breeder's papers but i dunno, I think he decided to grow out of it. Only the tip of his tail is left "Sablefied"
  • Adriana, Henry, & Catherine

How cute. The only difference so far in his coat changing is the red strip that has come in on his back. Outside of that his body is still sable. He is almost 4mths old so it will be interesting to see how his colors progress.

Hello we are new to mycorgi. My puppy Archie is a sable. When we got him at 12 weeks he was very dark grey on back but two weeks later he is a bit lighter. It will be interesting to see what his coat looks like when he is older. Can anyone tell me approx how long it took their furry one to develop their adult coat? Cheers Jen

So I have a "sable" pup who's about 14 weeks now. He's very dark
around his muzzle and is developing some dark spurts between the white
and red in his collar. It's pretty obvious to me that he is very much
a sable. His adult fur is growing in on his back and his hairs are
black and red, not just red.

I'm wondering when your pups developed their true sable colors?

His face seems to be getting darker also. At first he just had his
"guyliner" but now a dark streak has extended to his ears. Tufts in
front of his ears are turning darker and so are the back of his ears.
He's from a litter with a sable dad and a tri mom.

    Any predictions would be awesome!

The interesting thing about sables is that every time they shed their coats their hair will change. They will continue to get darker and darker as they age and the black areas or hairs with black and red may expand to cover more of the body. Some lines the sable will take longer to darken then others do. That is the fun part about having a sable is that you never know how their coats are going to change each year.

I'm looking to get a sable Pem puppy - does anyone know of any?
  • Fidencia Bonilla

Hi! Heres Juno the Sablelicious Corgi! Do not believe that face! Nahhh she is an adorable rascal...1 year3 months and 12 days...but ...whos counting!? She develops a beautiful mask...and reading that she is going to be changing colors every time she sheds her coat is really exiting! Her mom was a sable and her dad a tri, she looks and behave like her mom...must be..because her father is an angel! Corgis are not common in Puerto Rico, so she does not have corgi friends, but she her best friend is a mix dog : Petula and they really love to play around like crazies she is also in love with oreo, a cocker spaniel that he so jelous of her that he does not acknowledge her presence....but she really knows how to get notice! So we are saying HI from Puerto Rico and thanks for this wonderful site.

So happy I found this group. We got our little baby a week ago and she has been an absolute joy. My husband wanted a red/white corgi really bad. I wanted to get him a pup for his birthday and had a difficult time finding one in our area. I was so happy to find our little Piper which I thought was a red/white. Imagine my surprise when our vet listed her as a sable/white. She has some black lightly peppered down her back and the tips of her ears and she has amber colored eyes. She is sooooo cute we just love her. I will update picks as soon as she sits still long enough to not look like a blurr.

interesting discussion.. I have three corgis, one sable( red and white , but the red fur has black tips) the other two are tri colors some of these look like light tri's to me
  • Carol Rea

I have been educated today on how my Sonny, who I had been told by the vet was a Tri, is a sable! He really is beautiful, with the black on his ears and around his eyes -the vet said the black made him a Tri, but he does not have black saddle. So, I learned about the red/white gene and Tri gene - WOW interesting. If they had talked about corgis in biology, I would have learned a lot more!!

I have a 3 year old sable named Duchess. Anyone in the Atlanta, GA area wanting to meetup with our sable's?
  • Jane Christensen

    Sage at 8 months!

  • Carol Rea

Jane, how about your baby that looks like Sonny? He needs to be on here too!
  • Jane Christensen

I know....I'll have to post the pick of them both later!
  • Carol Rea

Ok! did you notice I couldn't remember his name? I am/was having one of those senior moments!
  • Jane Christensen

    Here's Teddy...my elderly corgi rescue....he's such a sweetie!

  • Carol Rea

Teddy, that's it! He has those smaller ears like Lucky as well as similar coloring. He's not a fatty like Sonny, though.

Getting a new sable/white puppy this weekend. They look so adorable. I know he'll make a great fit with my red/white corgi.
