Corgis Of Virginia

A place where corgi owners in Virginia can talk, organize meet ups, and brag about our pups!
  • Court

    Happy Springtime!
I was wondering how you Virginia corgis cope with the summer.
already, here in Richmond, I do not like to be in the sun
if it's over 60 degrees, unless I can run around...any suggestions or
your own stories of how you all stay cool?! any hotels that you rec'd anywhere that allow dogs that you go to?
    Bye,
    Court (leila)
  • Ellen Andersen

Hi all! We're in West Virginia, actually...in Harpers Ferry....but we're still close!
  • Rowan Virginia Draper

Hey Court - we live in Northern Virginia, but travel through the state to horse shows. Rowan's favorite job is to wade into the water jumps set up for the horses - cools her off and lets me know how deep the water is!! With all my traveling, I don't actually have a difficult time at all finding places that will allow dogs - usually most will with a small extra fee - usually around $10 a night.

  • Brodey's Mom

OK, it's official. My dad and step mother are looking for a Corgi to live with them on their cattle farm. They lost their Jack Russell (14) a couple months ago and need a dog. The farm has never been without a dog. Usually there have always been two, but the Jack Russell wouldn't let any other dogs around after the Chocolate Lab died. So now, it looks like they are in the market for a Lab and a Corgi. One to sit on their lap and one to lay at their feet.

Anyway, I need ideas for breeders. Where did you get your Virginia Corgi? My dad lives near Charlottesville and works in Richmond. Any ideas? Thanks.
  • JILL

All my corgis have come from NOTZMO kennels (www.corgis.biz) and have been shipped to Virginia from their kennels in Oklahoma and Arkansas. They have it down to a science and I have never had a problem meeting them at the Dulles airport. Sharon Nottingham is a pleasure to deal with and she has some puppies as well as young adult corgis available. I originally used a Virginia Breeder (Cathy Ochs-Cline of Phi-Vestavia) but they are no longer breeding.
  • Brodey's Mom

Thanks for the info. Looks like they are Cardi breeders. My dad is looking for a Pem.

Hey everyone! Have you heard of Meetup.com? There is a Northern VA Corgi meetup group - the next meetup is February 7 (Saturday).
    Here is the link: http://corgi.meetup.com/122/calendar/9147371/

Andy and I are going, if nothing comes up. We had a good time at the last one!
  • disraeli ears

Actually, in the discussion forum above, there is a post called "Corgi Meetup Group in Leesburg, VA" - which is what I'm talking about!

  • Kathryn Graham

I am a new Corgi owner in Blacksburg (home of Va. Tech) and I got my corgi from Carrie Harris at Dalarno in Culpepper, VA. We made three trips to Culpepper-- to meet her and see tiny puppies, to select our own, and FINALLY to bring Madoc (our little Welsh prince!) home. She does her best to match puppy personality to owners, and I cannot imagine a better match than she helped us with! Her dogs and puppies are wonderful. Anyone else from Blacksburg or the area?
  • ann/cooper

I also got my first Corgi from Carrie in April. Cooper is now 7 months old and has been such a wonderful addition to the family. Carrie does an amazing job with placing her pups in the right home! I live in Va Beach but have a son at Tech, so we get to Blacksburg a couple of times a year......
  • Kathryn Graham

Cooper is a doll! If you are coming with your son when he returns to VT in August, we should get the pups together. Madoc is from the Trucker/Loretta litter. Who are Cooper's parents?
  • ann/cooper

Thanks- and Madoc is such a handsome boy! I always thought Trucker was a beautiful Tri... Cooper's parents are Sinea and Casper (not one of Carrie's). He is a serious little guy but he makes me laugh out loud a couple of times a day, despite his aloofness. He is the perfect Corgi for me!
Not sure when we'll get back to Blacksburg- my son is a Jr. and takes himself back and forth these days. We try to go up for parents weekend... hadn't really thought about taking Cooper but just might look into it :-)
  • Casey

Casey and I had the good fortune to spend the afternoon at Carrie Harris' home in Culpeper on Saturday and see puppies and her wonderful Corgi crew. Linda Dossett was there who is a professional photographer who worked her magic and took some pictures of Casey at Carrie's. Casey seemed most pleased to be the center of attention for the pictures. Linda's photo gallery is (cut and paste this:) : http://www.scjgraphics.net/about.html Linda has two PWCs of her own. Casey is from a friend/fellow accomplished Corgi breeder, Celie Cassady, who has her kennel 'Stafford's Corgis' in Virginia. Casey just finished his champion title. Just had to echo how lucky we are to have both Carrie Harris and Celie Cassady Cogris in Virginia.
  • Kathryn Graham

Went to the photo gallery website and clicked on the Trucker/Loretta litter but only could see a trace of Madoc's bunny butt!! Had to laugh. Casey is SO HANDSOME! Is he going to be in the show in Salem Va. next week? He's in conformation, right?
  • Casey

Hi! I saw the Trucker/Loretta litter link on Linda's website, such a small world? Casey will not be in Salem next week, he is in conformation, but Celie will be there with a brother, Captain, of our new corgi pup, whose name is Frankie, she is a daughter from Carrie Harris's Connor and Celie's Corgi, Raven. What a sprite little Frankie is, I feel so fortunate to have these two cuties. Look at Celie's website, it's www.staffordscorgis.com and Casey is in Recent Wins. I think I will be looking to start Casey in agility now that he's finished and has his conformation title.

Wondering if anyone lives in Southwestern VA that has a female corgie..
  • Matt Dick

Hi all, my wife, two corgis and myself are moving to Charlottesville VA from Omaha NE in a few weeks. They are Paco and Ruby and are 3 and 2 yrs old, male and female. We'd be interested in meetups in the area. Thanks! - Matt

  • Laurie Page, LPC

    Matt,
You'll love Virginia! I know there's a Corgi get together in Leesburg. Don't know about closer to Charlottesville. I hope Paco and Ruby like their new home!
