About Me:
I work as a lobbyist-not a bad thing! LIve the rural life with Corgis, rescue dogs, horses, chickens, cats. Two beautiful grown daughters. If I had my choice I would quit my job, stay at the farm and raise corgis and horses!
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
We are honored by the presence of Lizzie (Q Lizzie Beth) and Fergie(FCF's Royal Ferguson) and Brodie (FCF's Little Bonanza Brodie). Recent additions to the family are Fern (puppy mill rescue and princess), Poppit (blind rescue), and accidental addition Sherman--my failure as a foster mom! Lizzie is our 7 year old Black-headed tri-color Corgi. True to the breed. It is like living with a cartoon charactor. Fergie is our three-year-old Red/White female and a real snuggle bug. Brodie is a black headed tri who is 1.5-years old. Fern is a 4-year-old red/white Corgi that was rescued from a puppy mill in January 2008 and was in Foster Care for six months! She has some special needs, but has adapted beautifully! She is quite the charmer. We celebrated her one year anniversary with us in May 09. Poppit has been with us for just a couple of months. She is a red-headed tri and she is completely blind-juvinile cataracts and small eyes--the result of poor breeding. We are working on her social skills and she is coming along. Sherman (formerly known as Denver) is a 15 month old red and white bundle of love and energy.

You're welcome for the reminder...I wrote it to help me remember to...so easy to get caught up with other things.
  • ATLAsh

Aww thanks! boys can be pretty too! haha...

Jackson is laying next to me annihilating a bone I just brought home for him so yes, I'd say he's in 7th heaven at the moment haha.

Your babies are absolutely adorable and seem very content and spoiled as well... as they should be!

What kind of horses do you have? I grew up with Quarter Horses.
  • Gail L

Thanks, Wow, everyone has been so kind to welcome us!!
  • Keahi and Kai

wow, they really do look similar to your dogs!! its like looking into a crystal ball of the future :)
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

Oops, I posted this on my own page instead of yours ...

Thank you. We are rather smitten with them. I have always loved the black and tan type color combo and my other half has always loved corgis. I got won over when I saw we could have all the loving fun of a corgi in a tricolored pup. Suddenly the woman (me) who said she would never have a dog in her house has two, one of which has clearly claimed me as her human! And as you know, when a corgi claims you, you are good and owned :-) but we wouldn't have it any other way, would we?
  • Cheryl

Thanks for the welcome. She used to take glucosamine for her hips but the vet said it's been researched and no more effective than a placebo. So I just let her be her corgi herding self and live her life. I figure better to be a most happy corgi and maybe have a little shorter lifespan overall. But she is ok. When she doesn't feel well, she just takes it easy and we can see she's sore and give her lots of rest. She's a cutie alright!
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

Hey there ... I was wondering how Fern is doing and if you have had any luck with the incontinence issue.

Cagney is our rescue, and given that she has had to learn to do many things ... like how to chew a bone or a bully stick ... and seems easily scared by many things, I really wonder what her life was like before us. Luckily she is in her forever home and has Chapin to show her the way. Now she loves to play, FRAP and chow down on her bones/bully sticks.
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

I was looking around for some other stuff and ran across:

    http://www.dogaware.com/incontinence.html

Might have some value for you.
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

Yeah, I tend to prefer more natural remedies anyway. The corn silk sounds interesting.

I noticed our girl Chapin who was just spayed last Friday suddenly is having some apparently nervous dribbles. Then I checked her kennel pad and realized she had peed on that more than once - although I am not entirely certain when. Cagney had some similar issues right after she was spayed - which was also right when we got her - but now we are not having any trouble with her. Initially I thought with Cagney, since she tends to be timid that it was all nervous peeing. But Cagney has not shown any issues since maybe two to three weeks after she was spayed. Now that Chapin, who doesn't tend to be as timid, is doing it I am wondering if it more related to post surgery irritation. Chapin also might have stirred some things up with her insistence on still running and playing despite our best efforts to keep her settled and calm.
  • Rose and Teegan

    Thanks for the welcome!
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

I would suggest a health food store or coop for the corn silk. Might be some online options as well but I haven't checked. Minneapolis/St Paul are home to some excellent coops so I do the bulk of my shopping at them. I am glad the article was helpful. Let me know how it goes with the vet. Hopefully the limp isn't anything serious.

    Hi Kristen,

Thank you for your sympathy. Since I don't know if he actually has DM, because I'm not his real owner but occasional caretaker, I' don't know if he has had the DNA test, thought he probably has it.

It makes me very sad because he is 11 and otherwise in very good health, of sound mind and relatively happy. But the rapid progression of this disorder is disturbing. He drags his rear legs a lot but can still occasionally trot. Like elderly people who break a hip for example; it greatly compromises their mobility and can lead to an early demise.

How are your doggies doing, especially Fern?

    Chris
  • Judy

Thanks Kristen! Your babies are so cute! We were getting married in my sister's back yard and wanted to have the babies with us, but were afraid they would just be too much trouble and we'd have to worry about them getting out of the yard. So I bought little corgi statues and painted them to look like Moose and Dixie. I also had cardboard cutouts made of them and put them on the ground in front of us during the ceremony. I even made a little top hat for Moose and a purple veil for Dixie. It was almost like having them there, and everybody had fun with it. They all know how crazy we are!
  • Cagney & Lacey & Chapin

Thanks for the update. Go figure corn silk is actually exactly what it sounds like. I really hope that helps. Nature's Variety is a good food, our dog trainer highly recommends it. We are actually using Eagle Pack Holistic Duck for the girls now because Cagney seems to have rather sensitive innards and this food combined with Geneflora/Fortiflora type product is producing the best poops I have seen from her. Chapin doesn't seem to have as much trouble in that area. Her poops are always pretty regular and solid - but it is easier to feed them both the same thing.

I know what you mean about not being able to keep these guys down. Chapin was spayed last Friday and she was ready to play the next day. We tried hard to keep her quiet most of the weekend but she is acting normally (presurgery) already. I worry about those type of injuries like your girl got. These two sumo wrestle and flip flop pinning each other down. Lots of mouthing each other. Definitely not trying to hurt each other but accidents happen as you know. But they have such fun together you hate to stop them.

They are both working hard on a rope toy right now. Looks like I may have to replace it soon, and I just bought it for crying out loud. LOL ... a well spent 5 bucks. They love it and supposedly it cleans their teeth.

Hi Kristen. How are the furbodies? Enjoying summer? Still looking for job, so bad here in Michigan, highest unemployment rate in country. Watching some olympics but I get bored with it. Some events are more interesting than others. Roscoe's still cute n sassy.
Started Penny on a product called Supraglan, natural remedies for aiding in Cushings. Very expensive and can't tell if it's really
doing anything to help. Some fuzz coming in on the middle part of her tail. Still h as very pot belly. Don't know that I will continue with this product though good remarks from other customers. It may be too late for it to help her, I don't know. With me not working, just can't afford to keep taking her to vet for more tests.
The $50 bottle lasts 3 weeks! Ouch. Anyway, how are your girls?
Friend brought me a troll from Norway. Apparently Norways folklore is rich in trolls. Thought I'd like it for my fairy garden. Yikes, it's UGLY, and she might scare the fairies away, but I'm touched. Kids said I should bury it, ha! Take care.
  • penny spencer

Kristen. Have to reply before my senior moments turns into sr. months! I get supraglan from petwellbeing, thanks for checking.
Do Fergie and Lizzy actually fight or just get attitude sometimes?
Hope Fern doesn't get caught up in that. She is so pretty. Little Brodie being the boy is on his own I guess. Still trying to "adopt".
Found a cute cardigan boy that is blind in Michigan, but he's already been adopted. Nuts. Guess I need to check in every day with these rescue groups. Even saw some chihuahua/corgi mix, corgi/pug mix. What combinations!
The troll I have is a long-tailed troll, looks different from ones we're used to. My mom used to take a big one to bingo as a good luck charm. The one I have "Marlene" is a lover of flowers. She does have the spikey hair, gray at that.
We all went to Winterhaven in Colorado a few years ago and explored Rocky Mtn. Nat. My God, so inspiring and beautiful. People nice too. White water rafting was cold though. you didn't want to fall in when temp is 56 deg! Went 2 years later rafting in W.VA and that was wonderful, warm. We actually did a sleep over on the side of the river. My daughter freaked out when she saw the toilet (bucket) behind trees. Yikes! We woke in the morning to the smell of simmering apples and cinnamon and full breakfast.
If I was younger, I'd be a river rat for sure.
We have 2 person sit on top kayak and a canoe that we've used for years but only went once this year so far. Getting old and lazy I'm afraid.
Nice you could spend that time with Sarah. Sometimes Audrey and I will go to the west side of the state on Lake Michigan which we love for the sunsets. It is a sweet time isn't it? Went shopping with her for apt. items and wound up in toy dept. Told her I remember going there not so long ago for toys, now........she put her arm around me. This move she insists on is killing me.
Aaron is thrilled with job, lots of training for bomb threats, attacks which terrify me no end. When he was sworn in by the Chief, someone took pictures so that he could show us "Officer Spencer" in uniform. They don't wear them away from work. He's excited that they are in the process of applying for a grant to purchase a canine member for the dept. He'd love nothing more than to work with canine. There's a deputy who patrols our rural area and stops with his Shepherd once in a while. So disciplined and yet personal for a dog.
You have a farm house too! Ours was condemned when we bought her in 1980. Couldn't live in it for a year while we worked on it. Built in 1883-1885. It isn't a grand victorian style, very plain
built onto original log structure. What we could have had for the money we've sunk into this place! Oh well, we saved it from the local Fire. Dept. burn drill, so guess we feel good about saving a little piece of local history. Well, hope I covered everything related to your letter. It is nice talking with you. Take care. Penny
  • Shannon

she had a tough labor and lost 3 right away and the last faded on day 2. She is on a treatment for her milk. I'm sure that was the only problem with the last puppy. She will get anther treatment during her next cycle which she will be resting through anyway.
  • penny spencer

Kristen, would I ever be interested in her! My gosh, just got off an Email site that is offering a little female cairn terrier. I've become obsessed with finding Roscoe a companion. Don't care what the rest of the family thinks. She's adorable. Thanks. I'll Email and find out what I can and let you know. yippee!
  • penny spencer

Kristen, can you have your friend Email me or call me? home phone is 248-625-7549, or spencerpam@gmail.com. Thanks so much.
    Penny
  • Mike Hammer

Hi Kristen, Great looking page. We live north of Lincoln on also. Our Corgis came from Texas. We love them. We have 5 puppies that are looking for a home. Thanks for the add.
  • penny spencer

Kristen, your friend decided to keep Cooper and try working with her a bit more. I even had my husband excited and planning a "road trip". Oh well. My son's friends sister has a young neutered male corgi at her apartment at school and realizes that isn't working.
Doubtful 2 males will work out, but we'll get them together. Hopefully no one will be hurt. Thanks for thinking of me though. Penny
  • quinn gleich

Hillary came from a shelter in Southern Indiana. Hopefully the dog in Nebraska has found a good home, too. That one looks maybe a bit more beagle than Hilliary - what a cutie.

I appreciate that you guys are not "Breed Purists!" Because of the horses I have been around Corgi's at horse shows quite a bit and always thought they were neat.

Hillary has only seen ours from a bit of a distance - she has not been to the barn yet. That will be interesting.
  • Kerby (the human)

Do you happen to know which mill Fern came from?
  • Kerby (the human)

We did the unholy thing and bought her at Petland and I know that she came from a "farm" in Missouri and when I googled the name of the "farm" there was broken link that mentioned a puppy mill getting busted. Basically, I am curious about her lineage.
  • Kristen

Oh gosh I know it's hard to stop with one...we've been considering getting another for a month or so...
    Thanks for the welcome!
  • penny spencer

Hi Kristen. No, haven't seen Scooter. He's away at college and now the girls family feels bad about not giving him another chance. My son asks if we're still interested, but we get conflicting facts so I've pretty much given up on finding a dog. My daughter moved out last week and I'm feeling sorry for myself. Nothing else interesting going on, except my gardening obsession! Take care. Pam. Roscoe & Penny say hi to your gang!
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

    Thanks so much!
  • Lil' Guinness

    Hey Kristen!
Only 9 more days until we get Guinness!!! I'm sooo excited for that day to come!!
  • penny spencer

Hi Kristen. Sorry, I haven't checked my email in a while. I'm okay.
We had 4 straight days of rain, wind, no power for a day and half,
but others have had it worse. My neighbor/friend and I had a large yard sale in that rain, but I carried it out this weekend and did okay.
Wanted to sell some antique furniture I have, but people want it for nothing. Kids don't want "that old smelly stuff" and I have outgrown room for some stuff. Oh well. I do talk/text Audrey-Anne every day to keep in touch and she stops by fairly often (to do laundry). It is different. First night away I cried all the way home and slept in her bed, but it's okay now. She loves fixing up her own little "nest" and we did a very cool art project for her living room wall. Boys ok. Aaron will finally have a ring to give h is lady next week so it will be official, May 15, 2010. I miss Zach though. He was home last weekend for his brothers birthday, but he now has a broken foot so can't work and is more in debt. Oh well, that's life. the dogs are fine. No go on "Scooter" friends corgi. Found one in nearby town, a 10 year old male, but I don't know if that would be a good match for Roscoe. He's not good with kids either. I keep looking.
You take care. What kind of "home projects" you doing? I've added another garden, crazy woman. One of my yard sale customers told me she made a fairy garden in an old wheelbarrow. How cute would that be! Take care. I'll check the site you sent. Thanks.
  • Jessica

We actually got both our Corgi's from craigslist.com. Their families couldnt care for them so we took them in and are sooo happy we did.
  • Lil' Guinness

Well, so far, we pretty much have all of the supplies, including the crate! (phew!) Only a little less than a week before we bring Guinness home! It will be awesome! I'll update this soon!
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

Thanks so much! I really wish dogs could live longer. I saw a turtle in the pet store and it said lives to be 100 years old, and I thought who the heck can love a turtle that long lol why cant that be a dog?
  • penny spencer

Kristen. See you've been in touch with Sir Riley My heart aches for Katie. Can't stop thinking of them. Share her pain. How are you and family? Busy I imagine. Your new pics are great. Some day I'll get more on (i've said this before haven't I?" We are hopefully rehoming a 3 yr old male corgi tomorrow! Owner is now going out of town for days for work and can't keep him. I pray he works out. I'm excited but cautious. Don't know if I want this more for me or Roscoe. Take care.
  • penny spencer

Kristen, just taking a break! We now have a 3 l/2 yr old male Basel corgi he came to live with us yesterday. I've been so excited, now I wonder what did I do?
He's sweet tempered,, happy go lucky and so FAT! 43 lbs.! We've got serious work to do, he and I! He wants to be buddies with Roscoe but Roscoe's afraid of him. Think it will work eventually. Roscoe has peed 8 times his morning! Then Penny, being the "bitch" she is they scrap sometimes though she can't really hurt him with no teeth. I know it takes time for adjusting, but can you offer me any advice? Thanks a million.
  • penny spencer

Kristen, the young lady spells it Basel, it's different. I'd never think of changing his name, but Roley or Dumpling fits him better! My gosh, he really rolls, flops, and wiggles when he walks, and he loves to walk, been on 2 so far this a.m. It's good for me as well. Don and I will try to walk him and miss crabby pants together in the evening. Thanks for the advice and encouragement. He is a mostly sable with little white. I'll get a pic of him if I can fit his entire body in a shot ha ha! A sausage with legs. My friend has 6 dogs, at one time 12! and has used the green bean diet with success. She buys cases at Costco!
I haven't seen him eat but tiny bits at a time, sure it's stress. He must miss his mom, she cried but felt very happy to have seen where he'll live. I promised I'll keep her up to date with infor and pics. I know it was hard for her. Thanks a bunch!
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

I am so sorry about Basil. I felt cheated at 8 and a half years with Riley but the more I hear about short lives like Basil I am thankful. You just never know. Those 8 years were the best years of my life. I wouldnt trade them for anything but I wish so bad to have him back. To hold him...Everywhere I look something reminds me of him. This is so hard...Thanks for your comments I need so much support right now.
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

    Thank you so much!
Four corgis! Wow if I could have that many dogs I would! Give them all hugs from us .
  • Wendt Worth Corgi's

I got my first Corgi about 5 years ago but didn't have my first litter til about 1 1/2 yrs ago or 2 yrs. I took my time on studying and researching. I didn't want to jump right into it even though I was breeding and raising Paint Horses I knew all too well all the information I needed to know for them so I took my time talking to other Corgi breeders..interviewing vets in my area..and reading everything I could get my hands on. Its paid off. I didn't want to take just any 2 corgis to produce a litter and wanted to make sure they were of good, sound health. So to do it right it takes money and time and I kinda just paced myself. I am very happy w/the dogs I have and how things are turning out.
  • Shannon

Hi again. I will have Snowy in Fremont this coming Sat. for the dog show their. Just got the program but not many Pembrokes. just 2 males and 1 female.
  • Shannon

    the show is Oct 18th
  • Shannon

the group the corgis go in starts at 11:15. The corgis are last so it could be close to 12. Small corgi group, only 2 males and 1 felmale. This will be my first time in the ring so I'm glad it is a small group. My wife has done most of the showing until the last month or so when we had a handler try him in the ring. We will also be in the Nov. Lincoln show for the Sat show there too
  • Wendt Worth Corgi's

Hello again Kristen...Congratulations on the open registration on the one pup. I am heading up to bed but didn't want to leave you hanging. Let me get back to you tomorrow or the next day w/some links that you might find to be handy. Also..feel free to call me if you would like to talk on the phone and when it comes closer to that whelping you'll be nervous but you may call me then too to reassure you. Just go to my website to get my number or email me from there if you'd like. There is just so much to discuss and think about it would be so much easier to ask questions to one another and then get the answers. LOL Take care and talk to you soon.
  • Jim McCracken

Thanks, it's an ongoing education. Kizzy is about 4 months and is an exceptional dog during the day. When i work at home she is very understanding. she like to sleep under my office chair which is wherre this picture was taken. but she can be a terror at night with the barking and biting.
  • penny spencer

Hi Kristen. Do take some time for yourself. It is autumn for sure. Within the past 3 days most of the trees have turned. We have 4 huge sugar maples left oon the property 80 yrs old and they tower over everything...beautiful.....but oh the work of gathering leaves. I've been slowly cleaning gardens, really sad. Weren't we just talking about spring coming? Oh well, the circle of life I guess. Started a temp job working at Kohl's Dept. Store and don't know how people get everything done i the mornings before you leave. I'm out of that loop and didn't have 3 dogs before! Roscoe has peed 5 times and pooped 3x already!
It's pouring rain and wind howling.....aach. It's only 9:00a.m.! Next week we're going camping on Lake michigan with Zach and his girlfriend! Brrrr.
He's so excited about going, but I have all the prep work to do, good ole mom.
At least one of my kids remembers the fun we always had when we camped in the past. Take care.
  • Jim McCracken

Thanks Kristen, we are really loving the energy. Kizzy is 4 months and a handful at night after dinner. Good as gold during the day when I am working at home. She sleep under my desk chair which has made for some close calls. All n all she is shaping up to be a good doog already. We are having fence installed as we speak because she is getting too fast to catch. LOL
  • Mollie

    Kristen,

Thank you for the comment! :) I'm glad to know that someone else has a chewing issue when it comes to anxiety. I love Connie, and the fact that she's had such a hard past makes me more understanding to it. She's very anxious if yelling goes on around her, she'll cry. She's amazing though. It's great to see how many Corgi's you have!! :) They're great. How long have you had Corgi's?
  • Mollie

The first day Connie and i spent apart from each other, she stayed in my kitchen which I have a TV that I leave on for the noise for her, and a bed set up as well as toys and food, and lots of windows for breeze, and ambiance. Also, my kitchen is larger than my bedroom, and there's a lot of space to roll around and play in. Anyway, she was fine that day after i came home, but that night when I went to sleep she chewed the handle off my pocketbook, the strap from my messenger bag, as well as chewing up my glasses, and my pens, all of which were stored on a table, that she had to get them off of. Everyone says "there's no way she chewed up all that stuff on purpose", but all the stuff she chewed up was ONLY the things that she watched me get together while I was getting ready to leave that AM, and she hasn't gone on such a rampage before or since. I honestly think she was trying to keep me from leaving again. I take her with me pretty much every where i go, unless im going to school or to take my daughter to the doctor or to school, or work or something. I'm sorry to hear that she's "leaky", and even sorrier to hear that it kept other people from wanting her. But it's entirely your gain. I think Corgi's are very sensitive dogs anyway, or maybe what I mean is, "in tune" with how people feel.

I thought Connie was shedding so bad because of the 'unknown' dog type that she's mixed with. Good to know other corgi's shed also, i guess I'd just blocked out my previous corgi's shedding because it had been so long since he died.

Which reminds me, I'm very sorry to hear that yours was killed. The loss of any close pet, (a friend really) is always devastating, especially when it's not due to natural causes.

I love how social they are naturally. It makes it so so nice to go for walks, to parks, and it's particularly nice because i'm able to include Connie in activies with my daughter and her friends :)

Look forward to getting to know you guys better!

    Thank you again

    Mollie, Connie & Edan
  • Laura Jones

You also have a beautiful family. One of my favorite things about my muddy corgi is that as soon as she is dried off it all just goes away instead of her being muddy until I can give her a bath. I can't wait to see how KC reacts to snow! Yours look like they have a blast in it. I have to keep this short right now and get kids ready for school but I look forward to many more conversations with you.
  • Sir Riley of Pembroke

Thank you! Give your babies lots of hugs for me. My kitties are doing ok at keeping me cheerful. They run aroung and chase each other and make me laugh. Going to my parents house to visit is tough because everywhere I look I see riley, thats why its even harder for them right now. They have been coming over to play with the kitties though so that helps.
