I live in Redding, CA. I dispatch For WIldland fire, law enforcement, and medical Resources. I have had to put my quest for a corgi on hold over the past couple years but the search is on again
they are kind of addictive! it is hard to just have one...maybe start with one and get your room mate hooked and then they can get one too! decision solved! :)
Irresponsible? Wow, how odd. Frankly, I think the Corgis hold their own just fine. Maybe they had had bad experiences with Shepherds, I don't know... The breeders I've talked to were more than happy to place them in a household with a Shepherd, and not once has that been an issue that even came up.
Frankly, most of the Shepherd breeders I've met go to Corgis or a mixed household. It was at a German Shepherd specialty that I saw my first group of Corgis and Shepherds together and I've seen a lot of kennels show both.
The Cardi supposedly has the more Shepherd-like temperment out of the two breeds... I'll let you know after we get ours how he fits into our household.
(sorry, hit the wrong button and posted on my own page, ha, whoops!)
Yes, I love Furpants McGee; Abby is adorable. Really, really go for Cardigans...they have a whole different look...more majestic at times. I find Pems more adorable, cute and cuddly.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for.
Hey Juel,
Sorry I haven't been around, but life's been happening. Meetings, work, you know! Got your message when I got home today, but it was kinda late. I'll try to catch you tomorrow. All's fine that ends well and this has been a good but busy day.
well, now it's not a question of WHO picks up the poop...because she's been doing it inside!!! *GASP* She was doing really well, but has been having "accidents" more frequently. I've been following the rules about taking her out after morning feeding, when I get home from work, or any time I see her sniffing around, but for some odd reason, she's started to go where she pleases! I bought "Wee Wee" - the enzymatic cleaner for the floor, so I'm not sure it's that she can smell that she's gone there before so it's ok for her to do it again...hmm....it's starting to get frustrating...
I know, it's CRAZY how big she's getting!! The park I take her to by my house (where these recent 3 pix were taken) has a few other dogs there and she's made friends very quickly...all the kids want to play with her, so lucky for me I don't have to do much to exercise her. She's been catching on to "sit, stay, and heal" but "come" is a big issue right now...she took off out the front door a few days ago, chased the neighbor kids into their house and ran INTO their house because they didn't shut the door quickly enough!! I yelled "NO and Come" and she wouldn't listen...I just try to maintain my sanity knowing she's still learning, but I make sure to try to instill the commands every day into her brain. CUTE pictures...is that your boyfriend's shepard??
Hi, thanks for your comment. I also had to do some convincing (and a fat deposit) to get the "ok" from my landlord and roommate, but it's worth every penny! I hope you get your corgi soon.
you know, they were laying close to eachother and so i sorta pushed Ziggy closer to Abby little by little...LOL. it didnt last long before she started kissing him, which he's ok with, but then she starts to bite and wants to play. but it was too cute for about 15 seconds :) I've been doing a little better since my "incident" with jake...Abby wont let me stay sad AT ALL...she licks my tears away and starts grumbling a little and wants to play. and she's so cute i can't help but smile when i play with her.
thanks!! he's just mopey and tired for the most part, which i am super glad about. he ate his entire dinner and drank water which is a great plus! so hopefully hell turn around tomorrow. =P he looks almost drunk, but still wants to play, but too tired to do so.
Yes good things do come to those who wait and appreciate it all that much more! I feel so bad about abby as well, I wish I could help too. Unbelievable how some people can be so ignorant. : ( I hope whoever took Abby gets caught and put in their place.
thank God someone saw the flyers I put out and called. they picked her up because she was going to get hit by a car...im really lucky she was picked up by the right person...there are those mean people that would try to sell her out there...to have lost jake THEN abby...i was in pretty bad shape!!
hello friend...long time to talk to. sorta dreading another weekend alone...*sigh* but what else to do? i've been up since 430 this morning because my fat lob of a cat, toby, wouldn't SHUT UP!! he was pissed off about something and so i've been up since!! i'm locking him in the bathroom when i get home so i can get some shut eye! oh well, talk to you soon.
Toby was just being a jerk. He wants to go outside and roam the parking lot and I rarely let him because I don't want him to get hit by a car!! It's been hard finding a balance between all the pets, but this morning they were all fine with eachother, so who knows.
I took Abby to the dog beach yesterday...check out the pictures! I think it was more work than it was worth...too much sand EVERYWHERE!! Had to bathe her when we got home. At least the water wasn't too cold for once. She really didn't like the waves too much, but she made some friends so it was fun.
Thanks for the comment on Tucker's pic. I understand how you feel because I have wanted a corgi for years and finally got one! Not many around here, and had to go a couple hundred miles to get him from a reputable breeder.
lol thanks! not done yet!!! 26 pics total, only 13 uploaded.
we went kayaking this morning in sausilito, ca - and took bailey in for his first swim lesson in the bay. he can swim.. hahha like i thought, but... not very excited by it. =P
I wish I had a video but not yet! She only did it for about 3 seconds the other day. Plus, my camera broke (Jake dropped it in the sand when we took Abby to the beach) so I couldn't video tape it if I wanted to. :( I think sand got in the lens or something but we've been so broke lately...so fixing it's on the bottom of the priority list. I'm just barely scraping by cuz Jake is paying his mom rent to live there, so the basic bills are hard to pay. I've applied at a few places around here for a 2nd job so keep your fingers crossed for me. :) this economic crisis is hard on everyone...and with my husband not supporting this household as much as he used to is HARD! Luckily, I have gigantic bags of food for the pets, so they are ok. And I took Abby for her Bordatello & rabies shots a few weeks back. I won't let her health/life be negatively affected because of my current situation. I've been ok though....keeping positive. I'll give her a hug and kiss 4 u. She's so big now, but still a cutie. I still get compliments on her when I walk her or take her to the park. Any further news on you getting your corgi??
I wish there was a way to avoid having pets die, especially those we love dearly. I think that they teach us the true meaning of love (not the romantic stuff). Of course the fact that they can't talk back makes them all the more endearing,..........LOL.
Talk to you later. Guess what? I finally got to my page, albeit it took a long time. This time, I couldn't get to my mail!
Thank you for your kind words! Every night we look forward to Daddy's phone call and his safe return. <3 A Corgi was def the right choice for us...he's just wonderful. I hope that you can get yours soon!
Oh yes I believe many of my prayers were anawered and god kept him here as long as he could. He would probably hang around even longer but my parents believe its best because they dont want to see him any worse..but yes he was healed for a time..maybe I should have been more specific..maybe I should have said healed until his next birthday or something. It seems like it was a daily issue where he would be like new one day and the next...miserable so I dont know but I hope one day I will understand the reason this happened because I dont wish this awfulcancer on any dog it is horrible
thanks for birthday greeting Juel. Did you get your corgi yet?
Mom and dad always had BIG dogs with tails that wagged all over and broke things off coffee tables, etc. My sister Akita Penny has a big tail but the hair is falling out cuz she's sick too. I a handful and a stinker for Mom, but she loves me soooo much, especially my BIG ears and my stumpy little butt! ha ha. You'll love your corgi, tail or no. Take care.
Wow, I'm sorry you've had to deal with so much death recently; it sounds positively overwhelming!!!! What do you mean that you lost 2 babies...human ones or fur-babies?
That's too bad about not being able to get your puppy. Was it a Corgi you were wanting?
How bad are things in the US? I watch the news and it looks very scary but maybe it only touches a few? Do you see people you know losing homes, going bankrupt? It is very concerning.
Do you have any religious faith or belief? I find that it is my Christian faith that helps me through the hard times but even then it is still hard.
This world is in a mess...so many people are having such a hard time. I hope for you that the holidays come fast. As for me, Xmas is a hard time and I would be quite happy to have it deleted from my life (some bad memories).
Thanks so much! We need them. I tried talking about it at work today because it helps when I talk about it, but then the tears came...It is hard but we are making it through. It's just so weird when I visit my parents and no one runs out to greet me or beg by my leg at the table...I just feel like I'm stuck in a bad dream but then reality kicks in..we are doing ok though
Hi Juel! Yes hes a biggy! =P He's maintaining his weight though. He's been at a nice 27 lbs the past two months or so, so we're over that 1pound/week phase.. haha. =) Enjoy the three new videos I just uploaded! and the rest of the pictures too.
Oh and Bailey wanted me to tell you that you should dress up as a parrot and be his sidekick on halloween.. lol
Yes it was so much fun to see all the dog go crazy in the pool. Running as fast as they can to jump into the pool after a ball! The public pools near Dallas open the pool to dog for the last day of summer; all proceeds go to rescue programs. It’s best to go early in the day the pool gets dirty by noon!
Hi Juel, so sorry for not getting back to you sooner...haven't been feeling well. Just stumbled upon a group called "Corgis of Christian Owners"; thought you may want to join; hope to see you there. Take care, Joy and Butter
Hi Juel, The fall is pretty here but i like it better in my home province. Over the past few years we have been getting a LOT of snow...unbelievable. I got my 1st digital camera last year and every time we had a snow storm I would run to windows and take pictures. I have hundreds and hundreds of snow pictures. I love snow but start to get snow weary around February. We had a few snowflakes today...will have to get my winter tires on soon.
That is so exciting about visiting the breeder with your BF. Maybe if they can get enough people to commit, they will breed in the spring. SOmething to pray about, that is for sure.
Yes, life is full of seasons....I have been going through a dark one myself....being tested for lots of diseases and waiting for results and meanwhile the diseases I have getting worse through the stress of it all. I reached a point on Friday where I woke up and didn't feel like I could go on....but God keeps pulling me through. It is hard though but He never said it would be easy.
That is so exciting about your house!!! Wow, I wish you could tell me how to make beans...they are not so common here in Canada...so the few times I have tried...I follow the instructions but I am doing something wrong. I soaked them overnight, then boiled them for at least 4 hours , then baked in the slow cooker at high for 6 hours. I can't believe that it takes that long. What do you do?
How does your sister like being called "Joy". At times I struggle because it is a hard name to live up to. I wonder why my parents gave me that name because of the 4 kids...my life has been one of the hardest. I find it wierd when people want to put an "e" on the end. I tell them it is a 3 letter word, too funny. Another thing I get is "is it a nick name, what is your real name". I have a hard time convincing some people that it is a real, legal name. I have to laugh!! Good luck with moving in...do you really like being a domestic diva? Not for me!! hahahaah
Sorry I've been gone so long....my husband has been very sick and we don't know what is going on. I am pretty overtired but trusting that God will look after us.
Don't throw out boxes...save until you have more time to go through them. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time.
What about the Cardigan breeder...I am dying to hear about the trip and to see pictures you took. When I am finished this note I'll check your page to see if there are pictures of Cardigan puppies on.
We had snow a few weeks ago...I opened the curtains and Butter looked out threw the patio door and actually barked...he was that excited when he saw white everywhere. He REALLY loves snow. It is too cute. Haven't taken any pictures yet because it melted after 2 days but I KNOW we will be having a lot of storms.
Take care, Joy and Butter
Hi Juel!
The fires are farther north than we are, thankfully! We have not even had any smoke, can you believe it?
The next opening for agility is in March, so we're continuing in obedience until then. We're also doing a sheep herd ability test in a couple weeks :-)
I'm not sure about actual working ranches. but we do have "K-9 Action SPorts" and a big facility with bid pens of sheep. People from all over SoCal meet up and have sheep dog trials. There are other facilities in Riverside and LA counties.
I can't wait to see how Sid does. From what I've heard, corgis are great at herding cattle too. They can duck when the cows kick!
Thanks. I had a fun time there. Things are getting better with time you know...and my kitties help make me laugh and I have fun playing with them. I do miss going for walks outside though. I wanted to walk my cats but there are too many dogs around we don't want to risk them gettting hurt.
Hi Juel! How are you?!? I hope you have an awesome thanksgiving too! Thanks for voting for us in the calendar contest!!!!!!! Oh, and for that $10,000 contest - some chihuaha (sp??) won it. I was so mad because I asked for the standings/results afterwards, and they said they would send it to me. They never did, even after two more emails asking about it…. =T And of course, Bailey was so much cuter than that thing!! =X
