About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

Thank you for the welcome. Your story about Chester is really sweet. It's heartwarming to see that some of these "free to a good home" animals really make it to a good home.

  • Chrissy, Alex & Roxie

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, she has one blue eye and one brown eye. We love this unique characteristic and think it makes her even more special! All your dogs are very cute. How much does Sid weigh? He looks like a big corgi in the pics!
  • Kelly Morse

Thanks for the welcome! Let's just say that was last summer and it was the only time I've seen Woody swim. Good thing I had the camera! He wades a lot though! I've always wondered what Woody's tail would look like! Very cute!
  • Jo Alvis

Thanks for the welcome! I know someone else asked this, but how much does Sid weigh? He looks about Simon's size....I was beginning to think Simon was a giant corgi :) I'm not even sure how much he weighs....he's due for shots next week so I'll find out, but I'm sure he weighs 35 or so.
  • Derek

They think he is a chihuahua corgi mix, but he isn't small for his age... so the only thing I am suer of is the corgi. We will have to wait and see what he looks like when he is older.
  • Matthew Fernandes

Give Syd a hug for me, Any quite new pictures? hope to talk to you soon!
  • Di-An Laperouse

Thanks for the message! Sidney is amazing! I wish i could train Rosie to be a therapy dog, but she's too skiddish and scared of remotely foreign objects. You have a lot to be proud of!
  • Juel

After much discusison, hair pulling, sleepless nights and just plain wanting both. The Family has come to a dicission... Drum roll please>>>>> We are trying to adopt a Pembroke whose half brtoher will be Bailey from San Fransiso. My Boyfriend fell in love with the pembrokes at a dog show we went to. I figure if he is that excited about a corgi at all is should humor him!
  • Di-An Laperouse

Rosie just has a good shiba friend, but it is amazing how they mirrior and mimmic each other when they are together. We kept finding them within a couple feet of each other, facing the same way and doing the same things! ...not to mention they really resemble each other in looks...same features just different sizes...Both are very cool breeds!!
  • Rebecca & Owen

Thanks, Geri & Sidney. Do you have advice for us on how to stop the nipping? We are trying ignore mild nipping and use a muzzle hold until he calms down. Are there special methods to stop corgis from nipping?
  • Jonas Svensson

Sidney, you are a strange dog........ a Pembroke with a tail..... very odd indeed........ ;-)
  • Katie Huff

Thank you for the nice words about Bella! She really is a special (if not a little crazy) dog. My husband coaches at a 5A (second highest level in Oregon) high school. The schedule is pretty insane but he loves it almost more than Bella and myself! What level did your husband coach and how many years? Mike's on his ninth year already!
  • Tiffany Tran

Hi Geri! My boyfriend's family is interested in adopting Oliver. Can you please email me @ tiffanytran88@gmail.com for more information about the lovely corgi =).
  • Adriana, Henry, & Catherine

Thank you. Sidney could be Henry's brother.
  • Rebecca & Owen

Thanks, Geri! We have been trying shouting Ouch! and it seems to be helping. I'll try the other suggestions for nipping at heels, too. Thanks!

Yes, Sonoma was named after the wine country, which is near to where my brother lives. If I didn't name her Sonoma, I would have named her after my favorite vineyard, V. Sattui. It was a toss-up. I should have gotten two Corgis and I wouldn't have the decision-making stress.

Hi, thanks for the friendly welcome. How nice to meet some wonderful corgi people.
Hanna just had her puppies a week ago today, I had a friend who has been a breeder of Lakeland Terriers for 35 years whelp Hanna for us. I would have been a basket case....Anyways, three healthy boys, then a still born 4 oz. girl, then the largest a 9 oz puppy, stuck, when they were able to get him out he was stillborn. Off to the vets, still one puppy alive, shot of ocytocin, did not help. Ended up losing that puppy and had to to a c section to retrieve it. What a traumatic day, I was so worried for Hanna's health. Then Hanna's milk did not come in so for 3 or 4 days puppies continued to loose weight even after being supplemented. They were too weak and lost the window to dock their tails at the risk of losing them. I was distraught over that, but after being on here and seeing all of the wonderful tailed corgis I am coming to terms with it not being such a big deal. I just had it in my mind......I have never known a corgi with a tail. Anyways, the three boys are gaining weight and thriving, hopefully will get them all home next week. We go and see Hanna every day......
  • Potus

    Thanks for the welcome!
  • Potus

Yeah- tail docking is illegal here. I can't imagine him without it- its a bit fox like. It took my mum awhile to get used to though- the Corgi she had growing up had no tail.
  • Irisa Carnahan

Thanks. I am glad to have found this site.
  • Dragster and Bailee

    Hey Geri! How are you?
  • Tammy L Ruggeri

Thanks for the welcome. Henry's birthday is April 26, 2006 so he's just a little over three. He was almost six months old when we got him. Sidney is quite a handsome guy. I'm still learning how to use the site.
  • Potus

Sidney's tail is gorgeous- he and Potus both have the same white tip! So many people are surprised to see a Corgi with a tail.
  • Eleanor M.

I will try to attend the next Corgi group meeting at RB Park. I've been meaning too.
