About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

baby

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

Pembroke

Luther is my second Cardi. His predecessor was a black & brindle tricolour called Rhys who had also been returned to his breeder (same breeder) at 3 years of age as his previous owner was terminally ill. I never regretted taking him for a second - he was a wonderful dog but unfortunately he developed pancreatic cancer and died a year ago. Luther has big paws to fill (but he's getting there!).

Hi there! Thanks for the welcome!

We did decide on a name for the new guy, Caden. He's coming home on the 7th of November--I can hardly wait!!!!!

Hi Geri and Sidney! Thanks for the warm welcome! We love sheep herding and are very lucky to have a trainer only 45 minutes away. She charges $14 per session in the summer (helps cover porta potty costs LOL) and $13 in winter (porta potty company doesn't charge us). LOL The trials are where we get sunk... $50 a run. eek! But Finn LOVES it and is doing really well. We will do the started level trials next year. Have a wonderful day! Sidney is such a wonderful looking boy.

Thank you! That picture of me was when I was a puppy and I had just gotten done playing in the snow :)

yes. My daughter got a corgi after back surgery because she was lonely and he has been a godsend. She needs to walk and he is there to make sure she walks daily. He is a bit too much for her at times, he is very hyper. since I have never been around a corgi before I don't know if he is over active or that is just the nature of the breed. He is very handsome and I'm in the least bias

Hello! Thank you so much for the welcome! Harvey is excited to make new friends. :) Well, Heidelberg is many miles south of Bremen. If you know where Frankfurt is, Heidelberg is about an hour south. It is such a beautiful city and has so much history. Y'all should definitely go visit if you make it out to Germany!

  • Mr. Spock

Sidney is quite the handsome fellow! I love that he has a tail. How did that come about. And good for him for working as a therapy dog. It is the most rewarding day of my week when we go see the kids. I always say...I just drive Mr. Spock, he does the work :)

thank you. yours is very cute too!
  • Jack

Hi there - thanks for your comment to Jack. Yes, his hearing is very astute - my husband thinks that he can see better than what we think, but I believe it is all just Jack's hearing. We were sitting on the front porch, which is at the top of quite a big hill with a large expanse of yard in front. There were 3 children riding bikes past and of course, Jack started barking - Tim thought he saw them, but I'm sure he heard them. What's really funny is that Tim (my husband) is getting hard of hearing!!!! So I guess they make a perfect pair. Love your picture of both doggies on your lap.
  • Bentley Ace Gordon, Britt&Jay

Thank you soo much, we think he's handsome too!
  • Alison w/ Odin and Dashel

I had a bad dream about my puppy last night too! I thought I forgot to get a sample of what my breeder was feeding him...so I had to just give him the new food I bought without slowing taking him off the old food...was scary! lol
  • Marion Hebert

Love the banana costume. Did you dress Sidney up for halloween? That most surely would have won the prize.
Sam. Merry and I did not do halloween this year. We decided to take the evening off, but maybe if I had seen that costume earlier we would have gone trick and treating....Oh well, maybe next year.
The weather in our end of Virginia has been rainy and chilly for the last week and today is not an exception. The leaves are rapidly leaving the trees....I rake and the dogs play....and then I rake again. It's a game don't you know. Merry is the official greeter (is there such a thing in dogs)....She knows that someone is comming long before they get to the yard, she runs back and forth at top speed saying hurry, hurry, what is taking you so long. Sam wonders what on earth is so demanding and just waits until he can see them before he gets excited...What a pair....they have no end of admirers...They have a favorite sport.....catch me if you can.....Good thing my yard is fenced and they have the freedom to run at will. Lately, when play time is over and they have used up some of that energy they are soaking wet....so they love to lie on the enclosed porch and dry off while watching the birds in the yard.....That of course is another story....How can Corgis watch birds and not want to get back outside to harrass them. Very interesting my dear Watson! A lot of time is spent with two noses against the screen just dying to get back outside and chase their feathered friends back into the trees. They are delightful....I just love both of them and sometimes am tempted to add another one...but really don't know that I could fit all them comfortably in my vehicle and don't really want to stack crates. Marion

Geri & Sidney -- that's my Dooley that I have been posting about -- the one on Buraian's page -- amazing, isn't it?
  • Sadie May

    Hi Geri,
Sadie also likes to go to the library for the Paws to Read program, though she can get a bit hyper after sitting there for a whole hour. She gets lots of loving so she doesn't mind it. Have fun!!!

Hi! ya i looked all over for a template too and couldn't find one so I downloaded a car decal and converted in illustrator :) (i'm a graphic designer so it worked out), let me know if you want one next year!

  • Michelle Anderson

Thanks so much! I want to get another puppy soon! I haven't been able to find a local breeder though!
  • Trisha Whatley

Hi Geri and Sidney, Thanks for the welcome. i found Flint on Petfinder.com six years ago. I'm not sure how he ended up in a beagle rescue but at least he was with the short dogs! He has brought such joy into my life. I'm sure most corgi parents feel that way!
  • Suzan and Tommie Girl

Corgis are the greatest dogs I think. I love this picture. She was playing with a tennis ball and it had just fallen out of her mouth. I love the way they smile!
  • Brook Taylor

Thanks for the welcome! Corgis with tails are the best :)
  • Lynn Meredith

Thanks for the welcome! :) I am sure Zoe will feel better soon! Seems that she was just not eating enough and was throwing up due to an empty stomach. She is in surgery as we speak getting fixed! :( Hope everythign is goign well! Your Sidney is gorgeous! She looks alot like our Zoe, but she has more of the white stripe on her head!
  • Lynn Meredith

Oh gosh...I am sorry! Well he is certainly a stud! :)
  • Lauren & Emma

Thank you! :) Sidney is so pretty! I love her dark red coat!
  • Lauren & Emma

Oh goodness! I'm sorry! Well tell Sidney he is a handsome little corgi! :)
  • Christy Lyn

Oh, im so glad to hear he's not the only one, I've had people ask why he has a long tail, well the breeders just didn't do it guess. thats cool..I love my corgi so much and they could be twins... have a good day.
  • Christy Lyn

i get the same his papers are in my purse, so just in case, dis believers... lol. he was in sad shape when we got him, flea and tick covered, poor guy it took me days to get him clean. They were going to take him to the pound cause they could not sell him and one of his brothers so I took mater ( the name came from him getting into a corner and instead of turning around, which he alwasy had the room, he would back out plus he runs backwards) he is so funny. he has not been around a lot of other dogs, think he will be aggressive when his is? Like at a gathering or the park?
  • Christy Lyn

he does the wrestle thing alot, with us he uses his chest too, like a lttle bull dozer. thanx for advice
  • Samantha

Thanks for the welcome! She arrives Monday, and we are thinking Maera for her name.
  • Jane C

Sounds like you have a busy household. Good luck with the therapy visits. I think you will enjoy them. Sidney has a great smile! Tail looks great! I've never seen a Pembroke with a tail. Our hospital has a "Welcome Waggers" program for the therapy dog visits. Mine find that a bit of a challenge :).
