I decided it was time to update this. I've had my Corgi for almost 2 years now and we definitely have a unique relationship out of all the other dogs I've known. Recently we've both been through a life changing experience with the birth of my first child on March 1st, 2010. Although my time and attention is understandably monopolized by my baby right now, my Corgi has taken it all in stride. We have slowly resumed our exercise regime, with baby added to the party, and this seems to suit everyone just as well. I can't wait for the toddler years and beyond...I'm sure my baby will grow to be a Corgi lover!
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
I have a feisty female named Heidi who was born July 22, 2008. Heidi turns up her nose at conventional dog toys and instead prefers sticks, flowers, and leaves. I think she's an aspiring vegan. Right now we're taking plenty of time to learn basic obedience skills and manners, but since Corgis live 10-20 years, I suppose there's really no rush. She can do "sit" reliably well, but everything beyond that apparently seems pointless to her...especially "lay down." Telling Heidi to lay down gets a bored, indulgent leaning toward the ground, as if to say "How bout if I lean down...I'm so short, what's the difference really?" She has yet to display the infamous Corgi appetite, about which I'm not sure whether to be concerned or delighted. I did tell her when she was 5 months old that if she didn't start eating more, the whole breed would be ashamed of her. That day she ate an extra bowl of puppy chow. However she usually only eats 1 bowl a day (2 if I'm lucky and she's bored), and she's been this way ever since I brought her home at 8 wks. Every now and again she seems to be offended by the existence of the toes on her back feet, and attacks them with gusto, usually falling over on her side in the process. She makes a little "Ow-roo" sound at the end of her yawn. Her favorite sleeping position is still flat on her back, with or without a hind leg sticking up in the air. She has a fun trick that I call "the face bop" where if I look at her the right way and nod my head toward her, she'll leap forward and bop me in the face for reasons I can only guess at. :) She's very weird, and I love her SO very much!
No not really...I think it might be closer to myspace. This is a ning site so if you join others that are ning sites it will be exactly the same. Like Pet Lovers Paradise.
No Cody is 100% Pembroke he just looks funny when we shave him! He is also a little small for a Corgi but that is just because he was the runt of the litter but he was also the cutest and that is why we picked him!
Heidi is definitely a WINNER!-I love her!-the pictures are darling. She will start eating with the Corgi "appetite" once she's a year old. Duchess turned 1 year on September 17th 2007 and now she eats boiled chicken with her organic kibble. She loves it. I do limit her though because Corgis carry the obesity gene and can get heavy fast. Lots of walks and excercise is always on our agenda! -I wih you the best fo luck with her -shes a doll!
Hello Allison & heidi My male dog DUKE and the newest member to our family is little GINGER she is just a ball of fire. Well they both are redheads and i think they are the best looking of all corgi's. but of course that my apinion.. did you buy the costumes or make them, they are great and heidi makes a great model take care john
Thanks, so many people don't like Song's name. Most are copnfused why I would name her that, but we get a lot of compliments too. Her first couple nights in her crate, and you would have understood for sure where the name came from. Thanks, Carrie's Mom is a fluf, so Carrie looks a lot like a Border Collie, she is sooo sweet. Her hair is longer and softer. I just love to pet her. Both have different personalities, but we love them both for who they are! --Dot
Song our Red and white and black, has a lot of the same attitudes for sure. I will turn around and she is bringing in a whole branch from the tree outside through the dog door. Pine cones are really her favorites.. Everytime I turn around I have a chewed up pine cone all over the living room or sun room.Song bops us in the back of the legs to guide us where ever she wants. To the snacks, the cookies and etc. If she thinks it's supper time watch out. She is also very feisty. I say I have one Corgi who is Sassy and one who is sweet, for Carrie is the oppisite of her. Sweet, loving and cuddily. Yes our life is great since we have these two.---------------Dot
Hi Allison it's cheryl --I just saw your post to me and yes I know who you are

The dog bed is made of jeans. I found a pattern and had some friends of mine that sew make a bunch and we sold them as a fundraiser for a local all-breed rescue group. They are terrific-washable, durable!
Allison, how are things going? I know you were thinking about rehoming Heidi awhile back. Whatever happened with that? I just wanted to say, my little girl Lyla is such a couch potato too... so not what I expected in a Corgi! Lucky for me, I already have an Australian Shepherd that has enough energy for the both of them.
I'm so happy to hear that! If you are interested in agility I recommend Aussies (unless, of course, you want the traditional border collie). My Aussie, Sky, is actually a miniature, but I hope to get him started in agility classes yet. He loves to jump and weave and follow directions. Lyla is doing good. I laugh when I read your page about Heidi because she sounds so much like Lyla... not too interested in obeying, or eating, or moving for that matter. Silly girls!
Hi Allison! I ran across Miss Heidi's photos in the main photo stream and thought to myself, "ohhh, what a little character! I bet she gets in trouble..." and then visited your page and of course was laughing while reading your entire write-up! So much personality coming through in the photos! Love her!
We have two Cardis (which by nature are a little more low-key than Pems) but I just wanted to reassure you that not all Corgis have that crazy appetite. Our blue Silas could care less about food too!
My Phoebe, who is nearly 5 months old, also makes the "Ow-roo" sound at the end of her yawn....which tickles my husband to death. I wonder if that is a Corgi thing??? My husband prefers to think its Phoebes way of talking to him....hmmmmmmm!!!!!!
Phoebe isnt particularly vocal, either. Maybe we have a set of twins here...ha ha ha. I think she may be teething at the moment. She is rubbing the right side of her face and grinding her teeth. I am just about to give her an iced kong to see if that helps. We have checked in her mouth and can't see anything, so we can only assume its her teeth. If she is still doing it tomorrow however, then it will be a trip to the doc so they can check it out.
We are from Wales, in the UK, which is full of snow at the moment. Phoebe is chewing on the snow, relieving her sore gums. She didnt eat her breakfast this morning and I assumed its because the dried food may be hurting her teeth. I have put some hot water on it now and she has had a little nibble, but not much. I will try the bottle of cold water, thanks. Cute picture, by the way!!!
Miss Heidi is a cutie! I have not been on the site for all most a year. Don't ask me why. I have been enjoying myself tonight looking at all the great Corgi's! My song is very vocal! If she don;t get her way she has the funniest winniest moan I ever heard from a dog.. She also makes a sound very close to Heidi's at the end of her yawn. Her and her "sister" Carrie can wake a whole neighborhood if they think something is seriously wrong. In January a house 2 doors down was on fire. It was a bad one but one one got hurt. My girls were very vocal and very upset. We had to lock them in and do the cuddling with them. They knew something was not good.
--This is my Corgi, Rookie, who I worried wouldn't accept our first baby. I couldn't have been more wrong (as usual!). They loved each other the second they met and he was her protector always. They were inseparable.
Allison - For some reason I cannot see your profile picture. So strange...but maybe because I'm at work. I'll have to check it out from home. OMG, Heidi is adorable. Jakey does the same Ow-Roo at the end of his yawns. You'll have to read about Jake's recent surgery. You can get to it from my page. Thanks for the note! Love, love you picture album! Where did you get that done?
