I am a grandma, wife and mom. My empty nest was filled by 2 wonderful corgis. Both have passed over the Rainbow Bridge and so has my sweet doberman, Misty. We lost our sweet corgi Izzy suddenly due to liver failure April of 2016.Our Cardigan, Watson is two and a total social butterfly and licking goofball. Supposedly Cardis are more serious than pems but not our Watson. We were very fortunate to be able to add a beautiful Wentworth Pembroke the end of April. Lexi is a tri colored corgi and just as cute as can be. Watson is in seventh heaven playing constantly with Lexi. Corgis are so fun and adaptable! We were able to attend the Florida Corgi picnic last November. It was awesome seeing about 250 corgis fraping around. Our cats, Cheech and Chong add to the hair and fun at our house. I love to walk in the Lake Lansing North Park in the woods and travel with the dogs and my husband in our RV.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Lexi is a tri colored Pembroke. She is still a baby but quite amazing as a smarty pants.
Watson is two year old Cardigan that alternates between being a little cuddlier to being absolutely wild. We also have two cats that like to cuddle. Life is never dull or hair free at my house.
I had to help my beautiful tri colored corgi, Sparty, over to the Rainbow Bridge after a bout with cancer and my sweet doberman, Misty. We lost Buffy many years ago and recently our sweet Izzy due to liver failure. It was so difficult and a piece of my heart went with them but I feel very lucky to have discovered corgis and this web site of great people.
I love you Bev. Don't think I haven't thought of calling in the Dog Whisperer, but I think our chances are slim and the last thing we need is a TV crew disturbing the peace, especially Lucy's! Also, Ricky/Rafa walks perfectly on the leash and I'm alpha dog, next Lucy, and then Rafa...in that order. I think there's some screw loose in his brain, faulty wiring. I said that the first month. I've trained so many corgis and in over 40 yrs. have never had a more difficult corgi. If only he wasn't so sweet, I would have re-homed him months ago. We're going to try to find a very experienced behavioral trainer and see if she/he can work magic. We're not ready to give up yet.
R/R is now so big he can do "counter-surfing" for food. He is also trying his nose out opening doorknobs. He's so much bigger than Lucy...but TG not 70 lbs!
Bev........We had to laugh at your comment about the "talking back" that Sparty does when he is scolded. Tenby does the same thing when we tell him no and he really wants whatever it is. (usually a cookie) He stares at you bobs his head opens and closes his mouth with just a small amount of vocal coming out. He looks so serious we can just imagine what that crazy tri is saying.
In our limited corgi experience we are totally convienced that tri's have a wild and crazy gene somewhere within them. Every tri we have met or heard about.........it is always the same they have a "goofy-ness" the others don't.
"Waiting for the Interurban" is a favorite piece of public art in Seattle, inviting frequent "art attacks" wherein people dress it up. It will soon be visited by corgwyn. Stay tuned.
Thanks Bev...I just had 2 wonderful days of birthday fun:) Unfortunately the corgis had to stay home but we're celebrating with them tonight...Wynn still isn't happy I left him. We had a warm 54 degrees here today!!!!!!
Have a wonderful time and enjoy those grandkids:) I'm going to meet my daughter and grandson this weekend for lunch...I figure it might be the last time before she has her baby and then I'm going to spend a week there:) She's only 3 hours away but schedules seem to always make it hard for long visits! I bet your dogs enjoy their sitter...I have one lined up for when we go get Zip!
Yes Bev, We were burning on pupose...we have about 4 acres of dried grass and weeds and try to burn it off every spring. All the dogs were out but Sage and Livvy just loved "helping". They were 2 pooped pups as we were burning for about 4 hours as we had to watch so it didn't get into some dry wood and our burning pit that would burn for hours cuz it's full of old wood also.
Ok what time is it on may 1st well see if we can make it i know ruger would love it and so would we ill talk to my boyfriend and see if he wold want to go im sure we would all love to go though ruger well have a blast playing with all the other corgis
Haha. Anything to please! And just think, R/R just turned 1. Sparty's 11 or so, right? R/R has surpassed the mischief of all my Corgis put together, and that says a lot, as I've had Corgis for at least 40 (yikes!) years. The only thing he hasn't done (yet!) was something that Rookie perfected. When Rookie wanted to come inside and I didn't let him in quickly enough, he would run and hurl his body against our floor to ceiling sliding doors in the living room. That got my attention and him inside quickly. Corgis...too darn smart!
Bev, I just checked the weather...65% chance of thunderstorms tonight. So I am going to reschedule again...lol Hopefully with the next one the land will have dried and we won't have a thunderstorm looming.
Hope Your Camping trip is going well. We'll be heading back out next weekend for a 3 dayer.Got a question for you:Do Your corgis thoroughly enjoy their buddy the doberman?
We are seriously thinking about adding a third to our mix,but it would probably be a boxer instead of a doberman.Have You found most campgrounds friendly to large dogs? We've run into alot of camps out here in Ca or Nevada that prohibit alot of large breeds.Thanx for Your help!!
Thanx for the fast reply to my question. Most of the parks around here just charge more for more dogs when camping. You are so right about the corgis being a major attraction!!I think alot of people want to let you know THEY know what kind of dogs they are. When I grew up with them over 45 yrs ago, people would look at them strange without asking.I think I like it better now.Looks like We also will have rain this coming weekend when We head out.Thank goodness We don't tent camp anymore.BTW,GORGEOUS NEW CLASS A you folks have!!We still have the 30' trailor :)
I agree with Your comment that camping is to have fun and not maintain a campsite :).We just went to pick up The Apt (We call the trailor that because when buying goodies for it,We felt like it was Our first apartment after We got married)to start stocking it before We leave for a long weekend. The corgis get all excited when We do,They know We're all gonna go have fun.Chance of rain here, but Who cares!!Always take movies etc just in case.
LOL, yes Bailey, Penelope and Parker are trouble. It was a great day and lots of unexpected Corgi friends. You have a good bunch of dogs! Life is great with Corgis!
Isn't that a cute picture?I got it from a friend for My bday in late June. She was at the Golden Gate Kennel Club show last January, met the artist, had Her sign it and had it matted to match the color of Our Keri's coat :).Nice gift huh?Sheri the friend who gave it to Me is the proud owner of sister Westies.Thought they were cute, but did no research before
adopting them. What a shock!!She's a gardener like Me,so the little "terrors" don't mix with that!!
That's funny,Bev!!I didn't realize We hadn't 'FRIENDED' each other yet :).We will be heading out again on the 14th for a trip up to Our Redwoods, then a few days up by Lake Shasta, which reminds Me of Your lake pics.Have a great time!!I think We are both lucky to
Hey Bev!!We just gor back from Our trip and this is My first day back on the internet.Boy,did Your camping blog sound like Our last trip!!Our usual campground has really gotten dusty and I felt like vacuuming 2x a day.the second park We stayed in is rated 5 star:gorgeous landscaping, pool, spa (massages if needed),dog/rv washes, curbside "refuse pickup",etc. The 2 drawbacks were We had 3 obnoxious terriers next to Us who ran the show with Their owners, noisy freeway near and HOT!!Never know how the trips will go.Overall, still had a good time.
Hi Bev,thanx for the quick comment. The 5 star park was beautiful, just the neighbors were a mess.We try not to go anywhere over the Labor Day weekend.Too many people for Us.Looks like We'll be going out the week of 9/12.trying to decide if it's back up to Our favorite river site,or up around the Gold Country near the Sierras. That dusty thing You and I don't like maybe the killer up there.Take care and looking forward to new pics of Your 3 :).
