Married mom of three children, three (no, four...OK FIVE) rescued cats and two Cardigan Welsh Corgis. My husband and I simply went whack-o for corgis after a chance meeting many years ago.
In April 2010, we got our beautiful, red and white fluffy boy (b. 1/1/10), Jon Farleigh (Old English meaning Jon from the bull pasture), from a wonderful breeder in North Carolina.
My husband and I had such a hard time choosing just one Cardigan that three months later, we brought home our stunning, brindle-pointed blue merle boy (b. 2/12/10), Dewi Vaughn (Welsh meaning Little Davey), from a wonderful breeder in Maryland.
The Cardi boys have blessed my animal-friendly household tremendously.
thanks for the compliment on Kirby. She does have one blue eye. I am beginning to think it won't chnange, she's 6 months already! I hope it stays blue though, gives her character. :)
Thank you for the kind words...Sooner is from Oklahoma and Blizzard was from Michigan. In May, Blizzard broke his back just standing up from sitting in the yard. After being evaluated by a neurosurgeon who gave us a grim prognosis, we made the difficult decision to let him go with the fairies and end the pain and anxiety he was suffering.
thanks, ill probably go back in jan if not the cgc then i might take her to petco or petsmart for some training... im waiting till after Christmas.
Some of my family is here this week from all over the us, were celebrating my moms 80 birthday.. and my house is very loud right now!! and they all think ive gone nuts because i keep her near me. Im trying to make her behave.. shes not use to all this commotion and she is spoiled..lol
Wow our blue (spice) and red (sunnyD) came in after the brindle sisters (star and scout) and have formed a special bond. Great pics - almost like looking at our dogs. We got all girls. I'm thinking bringing Dewi home was about the best thing you could have done for Jon! Thanks!
Thanks - u have no idea how great the rum and coke tasted after the "therapy." I've now decided that when Kai gets his - I get mine! You have some great dogs there, BTW.
Thanks, Elizabeth. Kai is a "SuperDog!" and I won't let him down - he's never let me down. His lovely girlfriend Luna won't either - she's my Junior Nursemaid! These dogs are great and I've found that the Corgi Kingdom of dogs and owners are too! You will enjoy your journey thru it...........
Thank you for the birthday wishes! Elizabeth is my middle name - great name!! Your corgis are beautiful by the way. Carol, Lucky and Sonny in snowy Oregon
Hello Elizabeth! Just wanted to stop by to see how your doing. Natalie & I are related, I am her daughter with my pictures that I take of him so I can have somewhere to put my photos and of course learn more about corgis :] Hope that clears everything up! Have a great day!
I sure have had a good time reading your blogs! Thank you for taking the time to post and to put in all the pictures. I don't seem to be able to do either. Ho Hum. Carol, Lucky and Sonny
Hello Elizabeth! hehe, Don't worry about it! It is quite confusing, especially because I don't get on here a lot because of school. I try to make it on when I can though, lol. How have you been and are you ready for the holiday season? Lance & Kristin
Thanks for your post on my blog, Elizabeth! Yes, puppies are like babies only 10 times more unpredictable! I lie, actually, I KNOW Isabella will get into anything and everything she shouldn't!
Elizabeth, It sounds like you got yourself a near indestrucable camera! I thought about getting one of those for my wife but settled on a destructible one. As for light in a room, the more the better. Turn on lots of lights -- even take the lamp shades off, it's tough to get too much light in a room that doesn't have big windows to let in the sun. A very bright room is still quite dim compared to the good ol' out of doors and direct sunlight.
Snow (sideways) & ice overnight, Lucky made it down the ramp but coming up was a trick LOL. It is abt 18 out & I was in jammies & didn't want to slip & slid out in the ice to help him up. (we don't use his wheels first thing in the AM) I agree, our view is beautiful! It is the wall of the Crooked River, changes color with the time of day and amt of sun - can be purple or red, sometimes looks like angels are side to side in the evening. If you go a couple of mile up the road & up a hill, you can see the Cascade Mts. Rumor has it there are corgis coming into the Ranch, have never seen them!
When I was in 4th grade my dad had sabatical leave from Oregon State to teach in MD, I remember going to the Smithsonian on vacation with Mom & the snow started. She took us for dessert & hot cocoa, cuz she said the gvmt would let out & they did not know how to drive in the snow!! WOW that was a LONG time ago & I still remember. Our son is a great driver, but I worry abt the others in the snow & ice as he drives the 50 miles each way to Bend every day. I don't want to hear the stories! It amazes me how fast the stores run out of supplies! We braved the ice yesterday for toenail clipping (what were we thinking?) & then walked around Home Depot - treats everywhere!! One lady told my spouse that he & Sonny were chubby, very bad form on her part!!! We will avoid her from now on, I think she should be reported (true or not) HOHOHO, not very Merry Christmas like
Thanks for the Latte, Elizabeth. Are you ready for Christmas....I'll bet the children are. Santa is ready to stuff Sammie and Merry's stockings....and yes, the stockings are hanging over the fireplace....I will be having my son and his family for Christmas and the week after....so we will have a busy home....Sammie and Merry and I wish you, your family and those two wonderful Cardigan Corgis, Jon and Dewi, a Very Merry Christmas. Maybe we could get together for a cup of coffee sometime after the Holidays.
Thank you! Gracie is the best thing that has happened to my family...I have two young boys and she absolutely adores them! My youngest son is autistic and Gracie treats him like her own child.
Thank you for the sympathetic thoughts about our dear little Adam. My wife, Sunnee, and I still think we see and hear him from time to time. We gave some of his toys for his trip over the Rainbow Bridge and kept some here if he wants to visit. He was a good little Welshman and wasn't above having an occasional sip of bitters.
Once I figure out how to post photos, I will. In the meantime there are lots of photos on my blog http://ElyanCardigans.com I have 11 week old Cardigan puppies -- they are cute, cute, cute (lots of photos of them). Two will leave this weekend and one the following weekend. Nola will be staying.
Thanks for the well-wishes, Elizabeth. I am on pins and needles waiting...
I love Isabella's fluffy hair and I never wanted her scissored very much anyway. When I talked to the groomer about what I wanted done, I did ask about just cleaning up the butt area. I didn't want it shaved or anything drastic, just a clean up. That's when she named the "sanitary trim". Ha Ha! Her behind looked a bit more defined (the heart shaped white spot was more defined, I guess I mean...) and fluffier, but she still has PLENTY of hair to catch the nasties. Yes, we have lots of baby wipes, but unfortunately it got beyond that and the easiest way to clean her was to have her back paws in the sink and her front paws on the counter and just spray off her bottom. I called her "soggy butt" all day yesterday because she never dried! I did try to blow dry her a bit last night and that lasted until the next round!
I hope Jonny does A-OK today. I'm sure he will. Give him lots of love! :o)
http://www.mycorgi.com/video/montana-corgis What GREAT pics you have of the cardis!! made me smile today...I am lovin those tails!! p.s. I posted the Westminster links - saw your response/profile and made me think of this video.
Wow, what a small world! I grew up in Enon...we lived on Bermuda Hundred Rd and then Enon Church Rd. I even went to Enon Elementary and graduated from Thomas Dale HS :) Your corgis are beautiful as well! Did you get them from a breeder in Virginia?
I was thinking the same thing. We know each others dogs but we rarely see the owners. For me it's deliberate. I hate photos of me. But you look great! Happy to put a face to the name.
I was reading your blog and saw that you have a tortie and a tabby ... So far both our homes include: 1 red/white fluffy 1 blue merle
1 tortie 1 Tabby
Now it seem I must convince my husband to let me get two tuxedo kitties to complete our mirror image house! Thank you for giving me an excuse to add to my addiction!
Yes, you are correct we are close in age, 41 for me. I just noticed something about the colors of our dogs as well, we both have a red and white and blue merle!! :) We are doing well thanks, Lance is a trooper and hanging in there. He has a check up on Saturday. I just wish he was up to playing with Tucker, time will tell.
oh and I meant to say, it will be very interesting getting holiday pictures with my two this year!! Tucker sees the camera and starts looking away immediately, the little stinker!! I need to start working on my bribe techniques like I did when Lance was a puppy.
I would just like to stop by and say that your two Cardis are the cutest thing ever and i love your blog on the chronicles of cardigan! Their little Saint Patrick's day attire is so funny! it cracks me up! haha have a good Saint Patrick's Day!
Thank you for the nice comments about Macy(: she enjoys getting comments lol give your boys some belly rubs from us! Lol and I love dewi's coat color! It's gorgeous
Thank you! We were told that he's a Red/Wht, His father is a rich dark red and his mom is a brindle, but watching him grow up and change is a joy. I'll post pictures soon showing the curly red stripe on his back that keeps expanding every day! I first found your Jon Farleigh (he's incredibly handsome btw, and Dewey too!) doing a google search for "Cardigan Welsh Corgi Fluffy" because I wanted to find some adult corgi fluffs to try and get a general idea for how Raife will look when he gets older. When I joined this site, I saw that you also live in Virginia and I thought that maybe through some corgi event in the area, would let us be able to meet each others dogs =)
