About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

Hi Geri & Sidney! I work in Oceanside but we actually live in the Shadowridge area, so yes we are incredibly close ...and YES! We've done research on the SD Corgi Meet-up and can't wait to be a part of the community. We get Miley this Friday and she'll only be 8 weeks old. She starts vaccinations on Saturday morning but I don't think she'll be ready to go outside around other dogs if I'm correct? We have a lot to discuss with the vet but I simply cannot wait to have her socializing with the other local Corgi's. I'm certain we'll cross paths if not sooner than later. Thanks so much for the warm welcome.

  • LaRae & Raife

Thank you for commenting!  I know he is young, but I want to know what I should do other than socialize him a ton, and general obedience training to help him to get ready for a therapy dog certification.

  • LaRae & Raife

That is some very good advice thank you!  I actually plan on keeping Raife in classes for a long time.  Make that kind of his "job" of sorts until this.  We also want to do agility but he's got a ways to go to be able to get into that.

Thank you!  Does anyone have any info regarding the "undescended testicle"?  He is 5 mos old.  I contacted the breeder and she said she once had a Corgi that it took 10 mos for both to drop.  She said no other puppies have had this problem.  My question is how long should I wait to fix him or see if it will drop?  I am afraid of cancer. Thanks!

    Thanks!

  • Suzanne Alton

  • Steven G Carlson

Thanks! It is great to be a member of the Corgi community!

  • Jean Conroy

Once you start trialing you will become adicted.  It will be so much fun for the both of you.  Obedience is okay but Rally-O is much more fun.  Mainly because you get to talk to your dog and show him how well he is doing with the tone of your voice.  Best of luck to the two of you in the new year.

  • Sara Austin

Thanks :-) Rally is so much fun! I am trying to find the time to get to a competition. Panda loves it!
  • Miguel

Hi Geri & Sidney, there is a bunch but not as much I would like to be, Puerto Rico is just discovering this breed, that’s why I joined this group to see if I can find another breeder here in the island, I only found 2 breeders and they are not breeding anymore. One of them is where I got Zookie, unfortunately she died this past December 15, I couldn’t enjoy her to the fullest and my wife is still depress for the loss.

  • Ceci Barrios

    Thank you!!!
  • Sara Austin

Hi! Great to hear that you are doing rally as well. Panda and I went to class last night, and our trainer begged us to go to a competition. We are planning one in March. Hopefully I can get someone to video it :) unless it is a pure disaster, haha. Panda is awesome, but I do worry about him melting down with all the other dogs. How does Sidney do in crowds? Any tips on keeping him calm when we get there? He is so happy and relaxed in the ring, but other dogs make him melt a bit.

  • David Huerta Montoya

Thanks for comment. I think my little Corgie would like a little brother to play with.

  • Steven

Thank you! My corgi's name is Koda.
  • Jennifer Angel

His name is Rascal, which fits him perfectly!!

  • Kenneth Justo

Sorry, haven't been proactive on my account. But his name is Wes.

  • Sara Austin

Thanks for the ideas. I do take him places, but I find that the other people let their dogs into his space without warning or asking, and that is what bothers him. :( He actually does ok at class at focusing on me and "leave it" when it comes to the other dogs...but they are also trying to do the same thing. It seems like so many pet owners just let their dogs run wild!!!! Makes me crazy!

  • Ben, Angelique, and Buddy

Hey Geri & Sidney. We aren't quite sure what he is mixed with. The previous owner didn't leave much details. Only said that he is a mix, good with kids, and may have some allergies. We've had to learn all the details through experience with him.

  • Corgi Man

Hello! Thanks for letting me join the MyCorgi community!!!!

Actually, I joined your site, looking to maybe bring help to 2 stranger Corgis. I noticed 2 of them tied-up directly across from my storage unit. I was hoping someone could convince the owners of these 2 babies to give them up to a better home. I felt bad, I own 7 that have a great life, then I see these 2 poor guys and makes me real sad :-( So I made a video for them. IT was the least I could do for them. I unfortunately can't have more dogs right now. Where should I post that video?

Anyhow, I work for a pretty big automation machine shop, in Englewood, CO. So @ night I usually bring a crew of 4 with me :-) They help do the hard computer stuff :-P I'm the IT administrator. See if I can't bring the dogs, I don't get anything done!!

    Their names;

    Bear Bear

    Momma, minmin (mini)

    Mercedes

    Ginger snapper

    Tank

    Tucker

    & Goose

Who can stop @ just one Corgi??? Obviously I couldn't..

  • Chinni Bean

    thank you!

  • Lindsay Stark

Thank you! Hope to see you there sometime :)

  • Larry Bowman

Hi. His name is Claude. We're huge Philadelphia Flyer fans and he's named after our favorite hockey player, Claude Giroux.  Ironically everyone who has met him says he looks like a Claude whaterever that means.  I was stationed in the Navy in San Diego for 10 years From 1980 until 1990. I lived on 37th st in Normal Heights.

  • Barbara B Blume

Thank you, Geri & Sidney.  Reaching out to new groups is our best opportunity to find all of our foster dogs new homes.

  • John Wolff

just turned the calendar page, nice to see Sid again.

  • Sarah Anderson

Thanks! My only advice on a new one is keep lots of toys they can rip up and watch them when they play. Sully wil open a small hole and take the squeaker out and chew on it so we watch him. When the stuffing starts getting removed we just take it all and throw it away and give them the empty toy. LOL we call my 2 the destructo dogs. That is awesome that you rescued one, both of mine are rescues and they are the best. Good luck!
