About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

Hello Geri & Sidney!  We just came back from the SoCal Corgi Nation meetup in Huntington Beach (over 215+ corgis!!!) and it was a blast!  We are excited for the next SD Corgi Meetup.  SD is my hometown!

Hi Geri & Sidney! Thanks for the welcome! We're picking up Fix (most likely his name, the diminutive of Felix, named for a favorite literary character of mine!) this Saturday! I'm absolutely thrilled. He's a fierce little grumpalump so far and I think he'll fit in well -- my breeder has been sending me regular photo and video updates!

  • Jeffrey Turner

Thank you for the welcome. I am glad I am finally getting a Corgi after many years. I plan on getting 2 Corgis or getting a Munchkin Cat to play with Nishi.

    Thank you for the welcome!

Yes indeed he is named after Lt Commander Riker

He just had that look and nature about him, lol

  • Wes Hooper

They had fancy names when we adopted them, but we changed them to Millie and Pearl.

  • Joann Cahill

Thanks Rosie was a great dog and friend - we miss her alot.

Lily did really well on her trip from Minnesota .  She arrived in very good shape - tired but pretty calm.  She has settled in and we're working on potty training -- still a way to go on that.  Saturday she has her final series of shots and we're going to take her to a puppy pre-school class - she'll get to meet some new friends. Should be fun.

Hi Geri, I show Corgis. Then I have some retired and rescue dogs. I could use some prayers for Darby. She is a Ch. going on 7 years in November. She came up with an illness where her stomach and intestines were inflamed. After exploratory surgery, Both GI  test, X-rays, lap work and scoping. We can't  find anything wrong. She won't eat. She gets hypoglycemic. She is getting thinner and thinner. But her eyes are so bright. She is still ready to go after a ball. WE just put a ton of balls around her so she doesn't have to travel far.

There are 2 things I try to let the corgi world know. Heartgard and anything with Ivermectin in it can be deadly for corgis (along with the other herding breeds).  A lot of vets don't know yet. It causes aggression and fear. Some Corgis have lost homes due to this aggression. Off of Ivermection the corgi goes back to normal in time.

Also Most vets don't know dwarf breeds have different hips. Corgis over do it. If nothing is torn I give medical and kennel them so they don't run around. My vet specializes in corgis now. He was the first vet to specialize Penn-hip X-rays. Very different from OFA. I tell my puppy people that if your corgi is sick go to your vet. If they are hurt go to mine. Corgi hips can be misdiagnoised as bad hips. One of my puppies (as an adult) was 45 lbs. jumped off the bed and blew a knee. The vet swore her hips were bad. After going in to repair the hip he noticed the hip was fine. Then moved to the next leg and fixed the knee. Your case may be different. But I have had many come back from vets saying this. After tests they were fine. Just had corgi hips. I had one vet come back to say one of my offspring had a genetic problem. It was called dwarfism. Always get a second opinion.

Glad to be part of this happy group.

Thank you for the welcome. Our little guy Sandy is a pleasure...of course, a bit stubborn but oh so smart! Such a bundle of love.

  • Randi

Hi....Geri & Sydney.  Our new little guy's name is Izzy....Whizzzy Izzy,...to be exact.  Izzy is a "spare" for our 12 year old red merle Aussie who is going down hill.  Aussie's name is "Sydney" (you must be hearing an echo...).

So far, as first-time Corgwyns, we are impressed by our new Izzy.  He has already stolen our hearts.  Call the Aussies jealous.....

    Hi Geri & Sidney,

Just want to say thank you so much for welcoming us to this corgi site! Sorry it took so long to figure out this website and find your nice note.

Please send some of that California sunshine to Wisconsin; we want to go to the park and play so bad!

    Lisa Shavlik

  • Holly

    Thank you!! :)
  • Carissa Cummings

Thank you! They are Lily & Chloe, both about 7 years old. :)

     Hi Geri & Sidney,

I'm with Lisa Shavilk, it too has taken me a bit to figure out this website.  And I especially agree with the request to send some California warm to Wisconsin!

I have 2 corgis.  Er, maybe one corgi and the other a border collie in a corgi disguise.

Tinkerbelle, my corgi shaped BC is 11 yrs.  Her full name is TDCH TACh3 Tinkerbelle W-FD/MF.  She needed a job, a whole bunch of jobs.  She has 3 championship titles in agility, so far she is the only Pembroke with a trick dog championship, and she also dances.   So far she has earned over $2500 in cash and prizes.

My little guy, 6 yr old Coup'r,  has had to deal with reactivity issues, so he only has titles in rally. He is working on his dance moves as well.

Here is a video of Tinkerbelle busting out her dance moves.  Tinkerbelle Freestyle Dance Routine

    Hi Geri and Sidney,

Thank you for welcoming Melody and I. We're in the middle of a unexpected snow event right now and your SUNNY SOUTHEN CALIFORNIA  sounds so inviting to us. The flakes are huge and when I left for work, the snow was just beginning to cover the ground, we now have at least 2+ inches and it's still coming down with a vengeance.  wow~!!!!  Oh well, that's New England for you~!!

I'm really going to have to work to figure out how to navigate this page but look forward to doing so. I work part time so my computer time can get stuck a little. I tried to post a picture of Melody yesterday but failed.

Have a great day, you're 3 hours behind us, Good Morning :)

  • Kevin

Hi Geri & Sidney, Thank you for the kind welcome! Sparda and Dante are happy to be here and there dad and mom love hearing of all the other happy parents and seeing all their great pictures.

We hope to have fun and meet lots of other corgi's here in the desert of Arizona, maybe even coming over to join some of the California Corgi meet ups.  Not sure how my kids will take the beach (I think Dante will love it, but our princess will probably think it's too dusty on her paws :P) but I would love to take them there.

    Have a great day! :)

  • Miggy & Bella

Our little boy is Little Poppa and we rescued him when he was very young, the breeder said he had contacted a fungal infection and he has only partial pad and nail on one back paw and he was going to put him down, (we were there to buy his sister) but once I heard that I could not let that happened so we took him and have been blessed with the sweetest boy ever.
