About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.

On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.

Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.

Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.

In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.

And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.

My teenaged sons and not teenaged husband think I am delusional about what they refer to disparagingly as "the hairy babies", Bella & Dougal. Bella comes from a very well established show kennel, and her breeder was disappointed that I didn't get the show bug. Dougal is also from a different but equally well established show kennel, but horror of horrors turned out to be a fluffy....but then he wasn't.....I think the official term is "glamour coated" Temprementally, she is pert with an aura of "Look at me , I'm beautiful" and she gets depressed if she is not walked regularly. By contrast, he is a total slob, who just wants to sit and gaze adoringly at whatever source of food is available...and couldn't care less if he was never walked. He actually refuses to walk for my son, but indulges me with a steady waddle. They bring alot of smiles to this home.

Thank you for the welcome! Our older female Corgi is Jamie and she is almost 8 years old. We just got our new Corgi pup, who was born November 25. His name is Kelly, and what a fun addition to our home! They are both Pembrokes. Jamie has really taken to orienting Kelly to what she "expects" him to do .. Ha ha! Typical Corgi, right? They share space here with Emma, a miniature Bichon, and Mitzi, a Yorkie, that we rescued a few years ago. She had been abandoned on the streets so we took her in to get her healthy, but she ended up staying.

Thank you for the welcome! We have 3 Corgi beasts, all Pembrokes. Biscuit would be the love of my life, and what my vet refers to as an 'orthopedic nightmare'. Several thousands of dollars and several surgeries later, she is STILL the love of my life, just a bit gimpier. and only 7. (I do so wish people would take care while breeding animals!) The Biscuit goes everywhere with me, 'helps' me in the barn, and travels with me to horse shows.  Cadi is the snuggler in the group, needs her couch time several times a day, and my first show dog. We do the conformation as well as obedience and agility. Just a sweet dog, and is just over 2.  Yogi is 16 or so this year, and was dumped when, at 12 years old, his owner didn't want him anymore.. poor lad. A bit stiff, he is, and can't hear or see as well anymore, but will still chase a stick all day. If he can find it.

  • Karen Knuff

Hi, thanks for the welcome.  My 6 month old tricolor Pembroke Corgi name is Tilly, like Tilly Hat.  She is most energetic and super smart.  I also have a 7 year old Golden Retriever, Abbigail or Abby, who has hip displaysia right from the beginning of her life and also severe osteoarthritis is her front right leg.  My poor sweet dog!  I have her on liquid glucosomine, which has worked wonders, way better than capsules.  Back to Tilly.  I have discovered that Tilly because she is tri color, is a rare dog  around here. I have only ever seen one other Corgi. I get tons of comments about how gorgeous she is, which of course adds to my self esteem!  I love the comments. Tilly is super energetic and smart. Already at 6 months she has learned to bring the ball back and drop it at my feet. Even Abby wasn't that smart.  This is my second Corgi, the first was when I was 13, a looonnngggg time ago.  He lived for 15 years.  My biggest pet peeve with Tilly is that she is a digger.  So annoying and it doesn't matter how much exercise she gets, she gets started and can't stop and then Abby finds the hole and it gets bigger.  Our lawn is super soggy so it's easy to get going on a spot.  Does anyone have any suggestions of how to stop  this from  happening?

Hey, Thanks for the comment!  I'm going to name him Gatsby!

  • Boots (Kathi Cary)

Hi Geri & Sidney!  We are from San Diego now living in Georgia!

Boots is actually Pembroke Welsh Corgi not Cardigan Welsh Corgi as I wrote in her profile!  The other 5 breeds that she may have in her lineage are Tibetan Terrier, Miniature Poodle, Finnish Spitz (she has a Spitz tail!), Min Pin and Kerry Blue Terrier.  I will attach a picture soon.

    Hi there!

Her name is Zoey  She adapted to it well, having had 3 different names in 5 months.  Plus I wasn't 100% sure I was going to keep her.  I'd been looking for a corgi back in 1990-a friend has had and still has corgi(s).  I've had several dogs since, my last rescue was 10 yrs old and I lost her at almost 15-the day before I saw Zoey on Craigslist.  So I wasn't sure if I was ready (why I was on CL???)  I still cry thinking about Molly#2.  One Molly(#1) I named, the 10 yr old was already Molly(#2).  I reached out to my grandkids for names and my youngest grandson was-"what is the question-Molly#3?"  Decided to change it-and needed a name that my corgi friends also liked incase they ended up with her.  More thought went into this than my own child!  But-no doubt-she is here to stay!  She gets called just "Z" a lot-although-yeah, I still accidentally call her Molly.

    Hello Geri and Sidney,

Thank you for the welcome.  I will try to be better about posting!  I am a bit new to all of this.

My tri-color is named Hershey and my rescue tan and white is named Chloe.  We had a candy bar theme going (I have an older dog named Snickers), but since Chloe is a rescue dog, we kept her name.

Just washed them this weekend.  That seems like a half-day event.  The HAIR!!  Their coats are actually very different in texture. I would love to hear how everyone keeps the hair at bay in the house.  They are both blowing their coats right now; I hope the bath (plus conditioners) help.

    Hi Geri and Sidney,

Thank you for the welcome message! As spring rolls around I am not as much on the computer as I have been during the winter, just a heads up...(get to run around with my doggies) hehe. Anyway, there names are: Valentino (the oldiest), Mocha (my only little girl), and Bailey (my youngest son). They are truly the love of my life, and as the squirrels come on the back of my deck looking for some corn I put out to feed them and the birds come to eat out of our feeders, our dogs get so excited!

  • Brittany Gibbs
