Guys, don't forget how vital to their longevity and health that a lean weight is! Our breed has both orthopedic issues and DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) is becoming so prevalent. Please do not rely solely on your vets opinion to know if your corgi needs to lose weight - I worked for vets for years, and vets know they can lose clients when they talk weight loss, sad but true. If you look down on your dog and cannot see an hourglass shape with a waist, if you run your fingers lightly over their ribs and cannot feel ribs, your dog is fat! Does not matter what the dog food bag says to feed, they have no idea of your dogs activity level, existing weight, or breed, and they are in the business of selling kibble. Fat corgis are becoming the norm not the exception. If you love your dog and want them to live a long healthy life, do not kill them with "kindness".
The main thing with any Corgi and their weight is also what size they will be when adults. There are many Corgis that are smaller or bigger than "standard" and that does make a difference. All my Corgis are "standard size" BUT there are smaller and larger ones too. I have seen a breeder who had very LARGE Corgis and they would definitely weigh more than the 24#-(female)-30#(male). Sage weighed 19# yet at 18 months and is exactly where she should be at #24 for the age she is now(5). Her Mom Livvy also weighed this. Is your Corgi big????
I also think that it is based on their size. I am would have to say that he (Tebow) is definately large (not fat). Just as I was told one time about the Shih Tzu that had he wasn't a Shih tzu because of his size. I am sorry but he was a Shih Tzu and there are many breeds that range in small, medium and large sizes. It is important that you watch their weight and make sure their is some form of excercise daily.
