I have three teenage kids and I just love being a Mom to a Corgi also! I live in sunny Southern California with the three kids, three dogs, two cats and a most wonderful husband.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.
On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.
Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.
Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.
In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.
And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.
Y yes. Luna is named after Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. 1) I used to be obsessed with Harry Potter. and 2) I wanted to name her after someone. What about your dogs?
Hi Geri! Thank you for your comment! That would be great if you could notify me about corgi events in SD...especially in the summer. Most of the time I am in LA and go back to OC every other weekend, but I'll have more free time in the summer to drive to SD one day. Thanks! BTW, Sidney is beautiful! He has a gorgeous coat!

Wow thanks! Yeah we had 1 and we wanted more than 1 dog at christmas so my parents said they were going out somewhere on christmas eve and they came back with 2 corgis and they are adorable LOL well I think this is the perfect website for my family because we have corgis LOL so why not?
Thanks, I do need to get some more pics of her. She has grown so muc. She weighs 25 ponds now. I need to be exercising her more, heck we both need the exercise.
The corgis in the park sound fun. I have stayed in touch with these folks and have never heard them mention anything like that. Where could I find info on it to give to them? I think they'd love to do something like that.
haha. Yea he is one cool customer. We personally didn't have to go far. We picked him up at the airport along with 8 other families who were also getting dogs. (not corgis) He had to spend almost 24 hours in a crate though. Poor guy didn't skip a beat when he was greeting us though!
Here are some photos of the arrival. Munira and I are in the turquoise vests. We volunteer with "Ocean Dog Rescue" as well.
HI AND THANKS FOR THE WELCOME.
WELL THEY ARE ACTUALLY MALE AND FEMALE.
THE TRI COLOR IS MY LITTLE GIRL AND HER NAME IS RUBIE AND THE "GEORGE CLUNEY" IS YOGI. I HAVE HAD THEM SINCE THEY WERE BOTH 3 MONTHS OLD BUT YOGI IS 10 AND RUBIE IS 9. I AM REALLY HAPPY I FOUND THIS SITE. IT MAKES MY DAY AT WORK... :)
Thanks for the welcome! My new pup just can't seem to understand why my older dog, Heidi, wants nothing to do with him. He tries everyday to cuddle and play, she just growls and walks away. He has lots of patience and is determined to make friends with her! lol
Ocean Dog Rescue is a group from Taiwan that rescues dogs that live on the street. They foster them and try to find people in Canada and the USA to adopt them. They send 5 or 6 dogs over every couple of weeks.
Munira and I volunteer on the Vancouver side when the dogs arrive. We help get them out of the kennels, fed and cleaned up for the new parents.
They asked us what kind of dog we wanted and we said Corgi and they excitedly told us that they had one ready so we got him!
thanks for the welcome. i am glad i ran across this site, as a new corgi mom (actually this is my first dog) it is good to know that i have online support.
My pembroke is now 6 weeks old and is still staying at the breeder with it's mother. His name is going to be Jeep and he will be arriving at our home in about 2 weeks, so I can't wait for him to come.
hi, saw your comment in the mix group about a basenji mix- im lucky enough to have one of those! she has the coat and the face of a b- but the rest is all corgi. especially the bark! (b's are supposedly bark-less!)
Thank you for the welcome-agility is a great activity for you and your dog-Cori barks at me if I'm not moving fast enough to let him know where to go next-if I did not have agility to do with him he would have destroyed my house! His motto in life is it's more fun to be bad than good. He's 11 now and has slowed down alot because of health, but I think taking him and having him play with running and jumping is one of the things that keep him going-he has outlived his dianosis by 1 1/2 years.
Thanks for the input! I was pretty dead set on naming him Neville since he's my favorite Harry Potter character, but once I met him it just didn't seem to fit him!
Thanks for the welcome! You're dogs are all lovely, and I love Sidney's tail! I wish my girl still had hers, but the way I see it, there isn't anything but cute corgis, tails or no!
Hey Ger! How are the kids? Lol almost all blonde and white corgis resemble Ein. With technology these days they could use any corgi!! Our babies are so smart.. we could let Keanu Reeves borrow them for just a little bit. Of course we have to be there too.. lol.
Hehe, thank you for the welcome. =3 Yeah, that Corgi stare is my one weakness. Like..she just stares at me and doesn't. even. blink. =O It's actually quite intimidating lol
Thanks for the welcome! Your dogs all looked happy in your photos! I do agree that Sidney and Ein looks similar! Really happy to see so many Corgi lovers and Corgis here. I don't really see many Corgis in my town :(
Thanks for the welcome! Your pups are beautiful. I'm new to this site so I still have to post pics of my Lexi. She is about 2 and is a Pembroke Tri-Color. She is the BEST - - love of my family's life!!
Thanks for the "welcome" I have wanted to join this for awhile but I decided today was the day! I am sure that I will enjoy being part of this. Here in Minnesota Corgis don't seem as popular as in some other states but those of us who do have them really do what a great addition they are. Jane
Thanks you! I can't believe I haven't joined this site before now. I have a group on livejournal of 600+ corgi owners and some are on here. I should have signed up before- I love it. All the corgis are too cute! :)
Thank you. Oh, yes, I'll add pictures when the system cooperates!!
Lexus was named after the car--we were driving to pick her up and along the way saw several Lexus billboards and actually two lexus cars on the road; Lexus was new at the time so this was rare-- we took it as a sign that we should name her this and she could be the Lexus we could afford!!! ...Zinfindel got his name because my husband was heavily into wine tasting and making at the time ...Payton got his name because we had to come up with a "P" name or be stuck with puppy as that is what he responded to within hours of being home!!! LOL!! stay in touch. jill
Houdini absolutley LOVES coming to work with me. He is with me everywhere I go, and would be unhappy if is wasnt involved in everything I do. He also has tons of doggy friends at work. And yes hahaha houdini has totally lived up to his name. When he was younger, he excaped from his soft crate through the top in the middle of the night, it baffled me because he was only 8 weeks old : )
Thanks guys. Still very new at this...not managed to upload the photos as yet. Leo is currently with me in Ft. Lauderdale enjoying the warm weather. We have spent the whole summer in Croatia, where I'm from & he just loved it!!! Except from the fact that NOONE recognizes a Corgi in Croatia as yet. Seems that the first official breeding of Corgies in Craotia happened just a few months ago. Never the less...Leo winns everyone over with his big charms...he travelled LOTS up to now. We take him everywhere with us...From Florida to Alaska, to Croatia & back to FL twice already...not meeting many Corgies even in Ft. Lauderdale's parks...Leo doesn't seem to mind, he plays with any dog...I would love to meet some more Corgies, though. I just love them! The most entrateining & smart little creatures.
