I am a former registered dietitian and pharmacy technnician. I grew up in Corvallis, OR, living in Central and South America for periods of time when my father took time away from OSU. My husband and I lived in Corvallis for 30 years before moving to Crooked River Ranch July 2006. Due to disability, am not working. Love to cook, knit and read.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
We currently have 2 corgis. Lucky was about 9 months old when rescued from a snowbank on Christmas Eve 2001, he has had back surgery after being totally paralyzed and got his new wheels 6/17/10! He has been using a ramp to get up the front steps for about 9 months. Sonny came to us 4/26/09, when his family did not want to take him with them when they moved. He was 8 and never trained, socialized or taught to play! After a year, he still doesn't play or FRAP, but no longer stays in the back room.
I have:
Pembroke

Welcome Carol, Lucky and Sonny! Those two are very lucky that you stepped in and saved them, and I'm sure they return your kindness manyfold.
  • Darlene Hennessy

Welcome Carol, Lucky and Sonny. I am so happy they have found their forever home with such a devoted family!

I hope Lucky's surgery goes well. Corgi Aid is a great organization and hopefully they will be able to help you out. Take care.
  • Gail L

Carol ~ good luck with your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery.
  • Alison Prasavath

Thank you for leaving such a sweet comment. I'm glad some of Noodles pictures brought back happy memories for you. I've given up hope on teaching Noodles that the vacuum is not such a bad item. He sure enjoyed chasing it and barking at it this past weekend. He kept following me around the house waiting for me to pull it out of its hiding place.
Now for his blankets, he has more than both my husband and I put together. He loves his blankets and he enjoys being wrapped up in them when it is chilly outside.
  • Mary and Rosie

    Carol,
Thank you for the compliment of Rosie! (and for your concern for her too.) =) I really hope her leg will be okay and we will be able to make it to the corgi walk. Lucky and Sonny are such handsome corgis!
  • Mendy Miller

What cuties. My Petie had a bout with hind leg paralysis, that turned out to be transient. He had inflamation of some nerves in his spine. It passed after being on steroids, and my vet says he may always need to be on at least a low dose of steroids. I was afraid he would end up with a cart, but so far, so good. He's 14. I would do anything for him! It makes me happy that you rescued these two cute dogs, and are going all out for them.

  • Michelle

Thanks for the compliments on my two rascals. You have two adorable babies as well. I think it is GREAT that you have taken the time to and resouces to give Lucky wheels. These amusing clowns really are family aren't they? We are constantly amused by our pups!! ^-^
  • Andy, Penny, and Chester

Hi Carol, thanks for your kind words! Penny is doing really well, we take special care to make sure she is always on time with her treatments. For a while, her liver function was up and she lost some fur, but we were able to carefully dial back the prednisone and now she is "better than new!" We adore her. Your Corgis are beautiful and it is so nice that you got a cart for Lucky - his name says it all to have great Corgi parents like you.
  • Cathi

Thanks Carol for the comments re: Bunny. Your two are gorgeous also, and so happy to have their place in your home - especially with another corgi.
What a gift you are to them!
  • NJohnson

Thank you for the welcome, Carol. I put pictures of my sweethearts up!
  • Mary and Rosie

I loved hearing about Sonny and his large black beetle! Lucky looks great in his new wheels. =)
  • Jackie H

Hi, thanks for your welcome! Your dogs are sooo cute! I loved reading your story and they are both so lucky to have you!
  • WhiteDove

    Thank you. . . .
  • NJohnson

Heh - thanks Carol. They're a handful but that's why nature makes 'em so cute. You can't get mad at something so precious. :)
  • Joe Boza & Sharon Reed

thank you! sharon (my wife) is part of the family too, but i haven't yet figured out how to add her to the profile (but i'm working on it!). joe
  • Leslie c Henderson

Looks like Lucky is doing ok with his new wheels thanks for welcoming me, I enjoy talking to other's who are owned by their corgis
  • Leslie c Henderson

She loves to play in the sprinkler and everytime I have to use the hose she's right there to "attack" the water. It's really funny except when I'm washing my car and she thinks she needs to chase the water that is hitting my car.........I have to put her in the house so she doesn't knock herself out running into the car boy talk about an upset corgi she starts this whining thing the whole time I'm outside trying to wash my car so now I just take it to the car wash.......so who's the boss hmmmm LOL!!!
  • Christen & Bentley

Thanks Carol, a corgi has always been my dream dog & I am so glad I also got to save his life.......
  • Jane Christensen

Your Sonny reminds me of my Teddy at work. He was a puppy mill male that I rescued and just the sweetest little guy! Still shy but a wonderful 8(?) year old.
  • Tris & Jeanne

    Thanks Carol!
  • Tris & Jeanne

    Just sayin HI!
  • MG

Hi Carol! Thanks for the note. Yes, Corvallis is full of wonderful corgis, isn't it?! Just today I talked to the lady who's hosting this year's corgi picnic. It should be so much fun - love to see so many furbabies all together. Do yous miss Corvallis? It never seems to change much. Your two boys are so handsome. How's Lucky doing with the wheels. I saw the most wonderful video recently of a corgi on wheels dancing with his human-mom. It was fantastic. If I can find it I'll send you the link. Best, Mary.
  • Robyn

    thank you!
  • MG

Hi Carol: This is the video I mentioned before of the corgi with wheels. It is so beautiful! I hope your Lucky is adapting well. He looks so happy in the photos, you must be doing a great job with him! Best, Mary

  • Viola & Mia

    Hi Carol, Lucky and Sonny,

Thank you very much! I'm so happy I found Mia's sister too :) I couldn't believe it!
Lucky and Sonny are so sweet! Thank you again for the nice welcoming.
  • Jane Christensen

    Carol,

I have kept some of my rescues...it is hard to let them go but when you find people like Joanna...you know they will have a wonderful home and also make a forever friend even if it's just an occasional email. I have been so fortunate to have found great homes for my rescues! I also thought it would be great to keep a dog for a vet...I am going to take some time right now for myself and I know I shouldn't rescue one for awhile but I can't help but try to help...my poor husband also has to help and although he doesn't complain I know he would prefer not to always be so busy with my zoo!
  • MG

Hi Carol: Thanks for the gift! Chasing his ball is GREAT! I just noticed Lucky was new to his wheels and thought you'd like to see how well the dancing corgi in the video adapted. Speaking of videos...I'm always on the lookout for a great corgi video...here's another one...the best ever:

  • Joanna, Rainy and Calvin

Hi Carol, Lucky and Sonny! You corgis sure are cute! How could anyone NOT love a corgi, is what I'd like to know. It's really heartwarming that the two of you little guys found your people. Lucky, you are quite suave in your new wheels, and it's wonderful that you have your mobility back. Sonny looks like a character - I can't imagine how someone wouldn't bother with him :( It's great that they have someone like you Carol! Thanks for being our friend!!
  • Julie Peters

Thank you for the comment! Bridget loves to lay on the air vents! I often wonder why I don't feel any air in the room only to look over and see her happy and cool as can be on top of the vent! They are such funny dogs!
  • Jane Christensen

    carol,

They are very special people. it's Joanna,Rainy and Calvin and Joanna's dad made this for me! What a wonderful surprise!
  • Jane Christensen

He's one "Lucky" dog!!!!!!!!! He looks so comfortable with his new wheels!
  • Dani Schwegel

Thank you for the warm welcome! :)

  • Nicki, Lily Rose,& Charlie Tuna

Thank you for your sweet and understanding comment, Carol. it WAS horrible to lose both Mr. Fish and Chloe Rose essentially at once, and I still miss them both so much. But Lily Rose is such a wonderful little pup, and she is definitely helping us to heal. I feel so lucky to have her in our lives. Your dogs are adorable too! And Lucky looks very jaunty with his wheels! Will he be able to be back to his old self soon?
  • Brittany Nelson

Hello. Thank you for your very nice comment. I am sorry to hear about your illness. Corgi's are real great with helping people over come great things.
  • Ana Smith and family

thank u so much for welcomeing us :)
  • Kitty Kirwin

Good to know Iam not a complete Nutter! Thank you. She is my little girl & a climber. I worry she will fall. The Kitchen island was so scary, I have moved things so she can get up on it again I hope. Your baby's are so beautiful really.
  • Nicki, Lily Rose,& Charlie Tuna

I'm so sorry that Lucky won't get back full mobility, but it sounds as if he's a happy boy and enjoying a full life anyway. Good for him and good for you for taking such good care of him! Both your Corgis are fortunate to have such loving humans! And, of course, you're lucky to have them too. What a blessing our furry children are!

  • Ollie & Prie Misra

thanks for the idea! I will google about and see if i find out more and if so, will give it a shot! Ollie was born with a little facial nerve damage that the vet thought was b/c he was the smallest pup and he hit his head coming down the birth canal ont he pelvic bone... it doesn't affect his health much but caused his left eye to have some difficult blinking, his lip to droop a little, and his left ear might not have gone up... but within 3 weeks of being, a little tlc, time, and his big heart his ear went up on it's own, his left eye started blinkign and is now almost as frequent as the right & in unison as it should be, and his lip has stopped drooping! My lil guy's ears are a little crooked (as is he has whiplash! lol!) but we think that it just makes him extra cute :) We're hoping that with a little more time all the facial nerves will return to full function... at the rate he's going, that may be sooner than any of us thought possible! Corgis just have the best personality and are so bright! I just love them :)
  • Jane Christensen

    Carol,
It's Joanna,Rainy and Calvin who gave me the box that says this. Joanna would love to have her dad make them and sell them as a fundraiser for Corgi.Aid! You could send her a message!!!!

As for if we lived closer! I bet we'd have a great time! My husband always tells me I should start a nursing home for elderly dogs that their owners can't keep due to high medical needs...I have the shed and the acres but need a totally fenced in yard and the$$$$$ to do this plus it's probably 10 years before I can retire! Darn...I wish you did live closer for this project too!

I'm afraid we could find way too many projects!
  • Tracie Johnston

Thanks You!! Your babies are so cute!!
  • Jane Christensen

Carol, We have 2 houses and a "rustic library/cabin! We have 2 places and about 13 acres! We could easily make a ramp for the corgi wheels too! We could make all the dog food(I used to have my own small catering service...I love to cook/hate to bake)!
I have an idea we would probably have too much fun!
  • Jane Christensen

Yup...know what you mean... my hubby is too serious!
  • Ollie & Prie Misra

thanks! we're trying out a doggy training and agility center next weekend called the zoom room that other Corgers have recommended for Ollie :) They have puppy preschool and also puppy agility class, safety class, therapy dog training, etc. It looks awesome so I'm excited and it just happens to be a mile from us! We'll update on how it goes :)
