I am a former registered dietitian and pharmacy technnician. I grew up in Corvallis, OR, living in Central and South America for periods of time when my father took time away from OSU. My husband and I lived in Corvallis for 30 years before moving to Crooked River Ranch July 2006. Due to disability, am not working. Love to cook, knit and read.

No
About My Corgi(s):
We currently have 2 corgis. Lucky was about 9 months old when rescued from a snowbank on Christmas Eve 2001, he has had back surgery after being totally paralyzed and got his new wheels 6/17/10! He has been using a ramp to get up the front steps for about 9 months. Sonny came to us 4/26/09, when his family did not want to take him with them when they moved. He was 8 and never trained, socialized or taught to play! After a year, he still doesn't play or FRAP, but no longer stays in the back room.
I have:

I'm sorry to hear you won't be able to make it to the Corgi walk, but there is always next year, right? I'm really looking forward to it. I'm glad that Lucky loves his wheels and it sounds like he is returning back to his normal self. What would our lives be like without our babies? I don't want to imagine. I'm sitting here typing this while Noodles is laying down next to me with his head on my leg. I think he wants me to take him for a walk.
  • Michelle Lo

Thank you! I'm really excited! Although at the moment I'm still searching around for breeders and such =) But I can't wait! I keep envisioning my corgi around the house/backyard!
  • Jess, Taryn and Dexter

Thank you for the welcome! :) I just posted some pictures :)
  • Lynne Taupier

Thanks for the welcome. I put Hannah's picture up when she was 5 weeks old. I took her home to live with me 2 weeks after this picture was taken.
  • Christopher Lemley

Thank you for the welcome! Yeah that snake was his favorite toy when he came home the first night. Now his favorite toy changes daily. I get a sense that corgis don't understand the concept of whats "too big" haha. Your corgis are beautiful with a wonderful background story for both of them.
  • Cathy

Thanks for the "Welcome" Carol, I've had baby corgi boys before - I just forgot how "enthusiastic" they are! I can't wait for the weather to cool off some so we can go on longer walks and spend more time at the barn - the little bat earred terrorist needs a lot more exercise! Can't decide if I should let him roast outside or strangle him inside ;) He's my little buddy so I just laugh at his antics, have another drink and pray for October!
  • georgeine jo coffin

I wish I could bring them to school with me, but no such luck! However, all of my students get to know them through the many photos and stories I tell them about their corgi antics.
  • Alison Prasavath

I just stopped by the pet store and the food I feed Noodles is called Diamond Lite. It is their lamb and rice formula. Noodles really likes it. Sorry it took me so long to answer you back.
  • Cathy

Thanks Carol. I just saw a picture of Lucky in his rolling butt! What a great Mom and what a Lucky Corgi boy he is!! I guess I should stop whing about Famous Amos... My guess is ole Lucky is just as busy as he was before!
  • Lori A. Haskett

Thanks for the welcome Carol. I just read your profile and I just want to say I am so in awe at you and your babies. What you have overcome and the love you showered upon your babies is so awesome. For them I want to say thank you for being there for them. What a special family!
As for my two... Callie and Cooper are truly sister & brother in that they have the same mother just different fathers. There is a couple years between them. As for the poor cat I'm not sure what keeps him from running away from home due to Cooper. They have such a love hate relationship....sometime I'd like to hang Cooper up by his ears to get him to quit tormenting Harley. Anyway thanks again for the welcome and the nice comments about my babies. All the best Lori
  • Rebecca

Hi Carol Thanks so much for the welcome. Happy to be on this site with other corgi lovers. When i have time will get some pics up.We now have 3mo. old Gracie, won't replace Ginny, but nice to have a pup again. Whats happened to your one that uses the cart. My older one Wrangler might eventually have to get one.
  • georgeine jo coffin

I agree, corgis are the best!
  • georgeine jo coffin

Hi! I noticed your comment about Sonny being a sable not a tri. Take a look at my photos of DiMaggio. I was told he is a tri, but now I'm wondering....
  • georgeine jo coffin

Hi! Yes, DiMaggio has more black but no black saddle...he's a beautiful mixture of all three colors. It's something that most people comment on right away.
  • Cathy

Funny - I don't notice the ears half as much as the teeth! He is funny though - acts so brave and ferocious but then runs back to me if he's worried. I need to try to get a video of him running - everything "Flops" Ears & feet everywhere! Didn't realize Lucky had IVDD - have you looked at the webpage for IVDD in dachshunds? Lots of encouragement! Tell Lucky to hang in there - Corgi's are tough guys!

  • Veronica, Alex & Conan

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. I wished we lived closer as well, Conan could always use more Corgi buddies. Haha well maybe your next photo shoot you should try having one person taking the picture with you holding the treats. When I've tried taking picture's of Conan and other dogs it never works there is always one of them who gets out of place haha its so funny and my boyfriend just thinks i'm ridiculous hahah.
  • Veronica, Alex & Conan

Hahah flowers??!! Too funny! Lucky sure showed that Dr. who the real smart one was! hahah Cheese whiz huh? I wonder if I could use that in Conan's kong. The stuff they sell at petsmart for the Kong is so expensive. I'm sure he would love the cheese whiz, he'll eat anything but my bf is so anal about what we give Conan. I tell him Conan eats better than us! hahah
  • RILEY, MAGGIE and Christine Kemp

Carol...type foxtail grass in the search bar, there are a couple of comments on both grasses. Pictures were posted of both, you might find the pics there, too.
I knew I was misspelling Betadine, but I was too lazy to get up and go check the label :)
  • RILEY, MAGGIE and Christine Kemp

We try to keep it out of our yard by cutting or pulling it up before it flowers, dries and starts blowing around. If you can get the seed heads before they are ripe it will minimize your pups exposure and won't reseed in your yard. From what I have read about it is nasty stuff nothing to mess around with for the dogs sake !
  • Bev Levy

Thanks for your comments. The photo was of our sweet Buffy that died of liver failure at only 6. My visiting father-in-law was embarrassed when we took walks and people laughed so he made the sign. It did not bother me, Buffy loved the ride and people were so nice to her. She actually could walk a little but had hip dysplasia and 2 torn CL's towards the end thus the stroller. Because of her liver problems she could not undergo surgery. I figure if people do not understand, it is their loss because I am the lucky recipient of so much corgi love! Your Odie looks like he had a great life too. They leave such a large footprint!
  • RILEY, MAGGIE and Christine Kemp

Carol...Thank you for the gift. Riley and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Have you pulled or cut all the nasties from your yard? Make sure you get all the seed heads that fall off...they will make new plants and your dogs could pick them up in their feet. Did you read about John wolff's recent experience with foxtail. Lots of foxtail in Seattle...I think it was Gwynnie, picked up a couple of seeds one being between her pads...Yikes!!!
  • RILEY, MAGGIE and Christine Kemp

"Tripped over a Corgi"...I can't imagine how:) Sweetie pies love to be right by our side...God love them !
  • Jane Christensen

He's just testing the zucchini for yo...to make sure they're ripe! :)
  • Gail and Ashton

Sonny is just protecting you from the "Zucchini Menace"!! He knows leaving them unchecked will only develop into uncontrollably large corgi-sized zucchini that no one will want! He only does this because he cares. lol
  • Bev Levy

Yes ,Carol,I did and it is a wonderful picture. It is great to have such a wonderful keepsake!
  • Donna and Lilly

Thanks for the comment, your boys are awesome! I love the wheels! The more I learn about Corgis, the more I realize that each one has to stand out in some sort of way!!
    Donna
  • Roger/Laurie

Glad to hear Sonny is eating his vegetables!! My boys sometimes sample the tomatoes.
  • Ollie & Prie Misra

I wish I could slow him down, he's growing so fast! Ollie's at 19 lbs and has just mastered high-5, shake, 'get low' (lay dow) and 'back it up.' Next on the list is roll over/show me some belly and bang-bang/play dead... he seems to love learning tricks... or maybe the resulting treat? hmm... :) I found his first baby tooth (a little one) and a canine that I'm saving :) The doggy tooth fairy gave him an extra treat for them hehe :)

I'm so glad that CorgiAid was able to help Lucky with his cart :) I just can't imagine someone not wanting to help a corgi in need! I hope my donation & future purchases will help out another lil corg' soon!
  • Molly and Isabella

She seems to be! Last night she didn't make any noise when I put her to bed. She slept for about 6.5 hours before we heard anything. Even then, she was just thumping around playing! I took her outside at that time, she did her thing and then would not go back to sleep. I ignored her for an hour and then it was time to get up anyway...Oh well, it was the longest stretch of sleep I've gotten! :o)
  • WhiteDove

Thank you for your kind words. . . .
  • Roger/Laurie

Hope Sonny is back to his normal self. A quite Corgi is worrisome. Tenby loves to chase the crows out of our yard. We quitely say "crows" and he is out the back door and sends them flying. He follows them to the property line and feels very happy with himself.
  • Lynde Paule

I believe she did but I may have misplaced the pictures by accident and we are thinking of using one of hers for a Save the Date refrigerator magnet for next year's walk. If you can find it and send it to me that would be just terrific and very much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Lynde (lyndepaule@aol.com)
  • Pat Piotrowski

Hi Carol, yes, his name is Ringo, he is very entertainign for Katie. only took her a couple of days to accept him now she loves him. althought he is not housebroken, but his legs are very strong! I have to post some pics, but cant get him to sit still long enough! i did get a couple videos, he runs around the house and yard, and katie cannot catch up to him, although she tries. i have cut her way back on food, she needs to lose some weight.
i cant get her into the new vet until the 23rd. so i can fill you in after. trying to get her old exrays this week, but its like prying gold! and I paid for them!
will keep you posted! thank so much for asking!
    Pat
  • Pat Piotrowski

Hi Carol, I sure will, got a call today from my vet, and he said he will see her again and see if he can tell if slipped hocks, hey, maybe he will give me a discount on more exrays? i fell we didnt get the right angle on her legs w/the last xrays and more are needed. we'll keep you posted!
    Pat
oh, ringo has to be housebroken, so he is crated alot and goes out frequently, so kate is quiet this week.
    Pat
  • Pat Piotrowski

Hi Carol, i know very little about slipped hocks, but my vet has been a vet for 42 years so he must have seen them. not much can do for them tho. as far as the pitellas, they may be an injury ididnt know about and there may be something i can do for that, i.e. cast, shots, ect. i am just joping for the best for her., and the sooner i get her diagnosed and on a plan of action i will feel better. she is walking better today, the rest yesterday did her good. still a little stiff tho. and i am cutting her food back to 1/4 cup kibble twice a day adn lots of veggies. i am going to try to change my appt to friday and i can go to his bigger clinic, and if exrays are needed, he can do them there. will let you know, Pat
  • Lisa and Odie

Thanks for the advice Carol! Odie is my first Corgi, so I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into (or how hard I was going to fall in love with him!) He has some issues wanting to bark at and chase cars when we go on walks, so I do need some help working on this with him... he will be 6 months old at the end of this week. If I can't find anything that suits me and Odie locally (and I think I need the education on how to train him more than he actually needs the training!) I thought about taking a training "course" at the closest PetSmart, which, I am sure you know, is quite a drive away... but will have to wait until the spring when there's no ice between Seaside and Portland... thanks again for the advice, your babies are absolutely adorable too!!!
  • Pat Piotrowski

Hi Carol, Yesterdays visit to my vet was just as uneventful as the 1st. He had already checked the 1st time for slipped hocks and luxated patella. he said no again she does not have that or any common problems he thought might be wrong. He showed me on the xrays, the only thing that may be abnormal was there is a slightly shallow area in her hips, but no arthritis. he thought that shallow area was normal for corgis, but abnormal for bigger dogs. the xrays he had were already of her legs, she is bow legged, her bones are really curved. dont know if this is a corgi thing. he told me i should see a specialist. i was afraid of this. looks like my best bet for specialists is Michigan State. its an hour highway drive, about 2 hrs total each way, but they are the least expensive and have all the specialists there. the u of missouri also works with Michigan state.
I still have another appt next week the 23rd with another vet. who has more corgis as patients, so i will take her there for a 2nd opinion. and i do have her xrays with me now. so will keep you posted. O, by the way. Katie did not like this xexram, she was struggling this time. i know its uncomfortable for her, her legs. she is sensitive. the vet thinks i am exaggerating. Pat
  • Desert Corgi Pack

    Hello!

Our pack enjoy wearing their coats. When it gets "cold" here, they bring them to us when it's time to go "bye bye". This will be Ren and Fred's first winter with us, so we'll see how they do with their coats.
  • Desert Corgi Pack

Well, the gentlman who flew Fred down from Albuquerque decided not to adopt him, so he still lives with us. His numerous quirks and habits make him a difficult adoption prospect. However, we have plenty of room for him here so he's not causing any problems. Once he finally bonded with us he's turned into a loveable friend every bit as engaging as the rest of our pack.

As for Renegade, we adopted him. He now keeps us endlessly entertained with his goofiness and his squeaky bark.
  • Desert Corgi Pack

When we lived in our previous home, our Corgis had a bit of a weight problem. Now that we have land and a bigger house (Razz dashes up and down the hallway like a goon) they've slimmed down. Lucky and Tag had the worst of it. We tried feeding them green beans and it worked well. You might try that.

Fred does not play with toys, either. He chases the others as they chase the ball. He is also fiercely confrontational with dogs outside the pack. I love on him every day, always pausing to pat him on the head or talk to him. Now he scampers about and tries to entice me to explore the yard with him. He's a good dog, but he marks everything. He's also deaf in one ear and I suspect he doesn't see very well. He barks and barks, sometimes at himself. These traits and his age lead me to believe that he will spend his twilight years with us. That's fine with us.
  • Shirley M.

Thank you Carol for the Welcome!!! So glad to be here among Corgi lovers ; ) Very cool about the Exeter thing. Maybe we can let the kids meet up at the doggie park when you visit?? Cali loves friends... lots, and lots of friends!
  • Jane Christensen

Thanks Carol! Wynn helped us bury Theo...it's like he knew and watched us closely then stood on the grave!

Water is getting lower here but still major flooding about an hours from here. I was afraid when Sage and I went to our classes on Tues. we might run in to some...but we didn't:)

We are out in the middle of nowhere! Well I better go clean the empty goat pen:(
  • Shirley M.

Corgi time is always great! Exeter is planning a park... it is actually in progress. The Visalia park is pretty nice : ) They have a large dog and a small dog area. They are both pretty big : ) Enjoy your picnic...I would love to get something like that started around here... I just don't think there are many Corgis in this area : ( Might have to take some road trips : P
  • Jane Christensen

    Lucky is a lucky boy...zoom,zoom,zoom!
  • Renata M.

Yes...we are new here the time I spend here is so useful and fun at the same time =)
Lily& Bunnies poop ....huge problem with nothing to fix .....
    Thanks for the welcome!!!!!
  • John Wolff

Good for you if you want to help Dr. Coates. I'd expect they need specimens ASAP though, so spread the word to anybody you know who has an older unaffected corgi.
Other breeds may be useful too -- I'm unclear on that -- a lot of boxers and GSDs are affected, and the age-of-onset for DM is lower in those breeds, so healthy controls don't need to be so old. Thanks!
  • John Wolff

Thanks, I joined those 2 yahoo groups so's I can post notices there.
  • Buddy & Ben Songer

How cute are they? I tell you what - I think corgis have to be one of the cutest breeds. : )
  • Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

I still can't find the volleyball & soccer ball that John has recommended, but found some other cool toys that are too big to roll under the sofa (so I have to retrieve every 5 seconds!) and also keep them both busy. I'll go to a sporting goods store or a target & I'm sure I'll find them. Rafa had his first obedience class today. He did his mommy proud. He loved every minute of the hour. What an attention span on this guy.
  • Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

    Sorry about OSU yesterday.
