I am a twenty-something year old born and raised and currently live in San Francisco, California. I am a first-time dog owner and I am a mommy to one (and my first) male Pembroke Welsh Corgi by the name of Bailey...
Bailey was born in Northern California on January 21st, 2008 (an Aquarius - according to doggy astrology, Bailey will be social, a free spirit, quirky, smart, and maybe a rebel!!!). His mommy was a red-headed tri-colored corgi and his daddy Cooper was a red and white corgi. Bailey's fur is much more golden than an ordinary red/white. He gives credit to his parents for that.
Bailey came home on 3/15/08, on a lovely 3 hour drive from Corning, CA. I still remember that day vividly!
Bailey loves meaty treats, the smell of pizza or any other baked carbohydrates (example: french bread!!) , stuffed animals with squeakers, squeaky balls, tug-o-war, wrestling, drinking water, bossing puppies around, peeing on other dogs' poop, doing tricks, going to the dogpark, meeting new people, learning new tricks, exploring, sleeping, and barking too.
Bailey is VERY social and expects every moving thing within a 20 feet radius to say hello to him. If you do not, he will jump on you and insist you pet him. He loves affection from strangers but appears to be embarassed if I display affection to him in public. With dogs, he loves to wrestle, and chase ball-crazy dogs who chase balls. He also loves interuppting picnics at the park, rolling in who-knows-what, and swimming (he's the cutest swimmer too).
Happy belated birthday Bailey bro! Sorry for not getting your present there on time, mom's still trying to get it all together to send to you! Hope you had a great one dude, did you get cake? *drool* Mom says happy birthday too and she's sorry she hasn't been in touch...she's been busy at work...gotta work to keep my dog food supplied after all. Anyway best wishes bro we are at the one mile mark! Gonna bite mom on the ankles till she gets your present out to you! High paws!
Hi Karen and Bailey, long time no talk! Love the picture of Bailey in the calendar, how did you get him to stay so still without falling!! Mycorgi calendar is hanging on my fridge. : )
Hi Bailey,
Happy Birthday Man...My birthday is January 16..I turned 5 this year...But still keeping my puppy looks.. lol..Congrats on the calendar..Happy Valentine's Day to you and your family..
Hello Karen & Bailey,
I stumbled across some of your pics and couldn't believe how much Bailey looked like my Welsh Corgi! Funny thing is that I originally named my pup Bailey also, but he goes by the name, Big Guy. =)
We got Big Guy from a breeder in Springfield, MO and he turned two years old last month. I was showing pics of Bailey to my husband and he couldn't believe how similar they looked either. It's uncanny! =)
Bailey is so cute!!!! Butters, I just kinda thought it suited him. Wasn't after butter, south park, or his butt....lol I just thought it fit him, and it does! The way he walks is so funny!
Hi Bailey! I haven't seen you in such a long time! Mitts and Stubby are a little ball obsessed so don't take any offense to that. Are you going to the next get together? Hopefully I'll see you soon!! =)
Hey Karen, thanks for the heads up on the diaper samples! Just ordered some ;) Were you at the last meet up? We missed it, but will try to make the new East Bay meet up at the end of April. Closer to us, and hope Bryson will feel more comfortable in a familiar environment (he's still pretty anti-social...) Hope you and Bailey are doing well!
Something came up so we probably won't be in the Bay area that week (work) but will plan to be there on 5/24 til 31. Maybe we can meet up at Mountain Lake in SF...sorry...we would love to meet up with Parker's relatives...
Hi Karen & Baily, it is confirmed that we will be in the bay area the week of 5/27 til 5/31...will there be another Corgi get together? We would love to meet Bailey & Leo.
How funny! Parker and Bailey have some "family" traits. Parker current "big" fears is trash trucks and blimps! We live near the Rose Bowl so during game time, he is a nervous dog. Poor baby! All is all, Parker is a great dog, well behave and very kind to other dogs!
We arrived in Foster City yesterday and it is warm! :D
Hi Bailey! My mommy got the tix for Dog Days of Summer! I can't wait for our annual date! Do you want your tix before that day or do you want to meet at the ballpark before the game starts?
Hi! Thanks for the comment! I loooove Bailey's Giants gear!! I saw that photo and had to friend you-- we SF Giants corgis must stick together, there can't be *that* many of us! hehe :)
Hey Karen and Bailey!! It was great to run into you the other day at Fort Funston! and it was awesome that you found the blog-- I go on there so much more these days! Thanks for the Chrissy Beach idea, that is as fabulous idea-- it'd be fun to walk there sometime and maybe Finn would learn to swim by seeing Bailey do it! Are you going to the Corgi Walk tomorrow? I'm thinking about it! Hopefully it will stay dry!
hey! it's a bummer we missed you! We left late, but there was a terrible roll over accident on 19th and it took us forever to finally get to the park!! We ended up getting there around 2:30. Luckily there were a few corgis left, but it would've been nice to see you and Bailey! Hopefully next time! I hope you guys had fun, though! And if we head down to Chrissy Beach I'll drop you a note on here in case you're going too.
OMG!, Timmy's nephew turned two??? Can't be, he was just the cutest little guy, yesterday....................... Wow, what a super day and it looks like he had a really, reallly fun time. Here's to many, many more years of corgi frolics and kisses from your uncle Timmy.
Hey guys!! How's it going? thanks for the blog comments-- I love the sound of that tag clip you mentioned! where did you say you found it?
I assume you're going to the corgi walk this month? I am planning to, but I waited too long to get Finn spayed, so she is in heat right now and I'm a little worried about bringing her there, with so many boys around! I read it usually lasts 2-3 weeks, so it should be over by then, but I wonder.
Hey Karen and Bailey! I will have to look for that collar clip at Petco! It sounds perfect for Finn. I saw a corgi and human that looked like you guys near Van Ness the other day and almost jumped out of my car, but then I got a better look at the corg and he/she had more white than Bailey. I would've been so excited to say hi! haha :)
I don't think we are going to make it to the meetup tomorrow, I am super sorry to say :( Our vet thought it'd be better to stay away for another week, b/c Finn's hormones can make some dogs aggressive, even if they're fixed, apparently! and since she's not such a socializer, I don't think she'd handle more attention too well. I am hoping once the weather decides to stay springy I can take her down to the beach by Chrissy field that you and Bailey go to!! Maybe we'll see you there! Bailey can teach her to swim :)
The blog looks great! We hope that all is well. We've been super busy so we haven't made a corgi event in a while. We'll let you know next time we plan on going so we can meet up.
Thank you for noticing about Sidney, that is so sweet. He has good days and sore days, most days are good :)
I "sold out" of the paw print bandanas, though at the end of the month I will try to buy more fabric and make some more. They were the most popular! I have the teal/brown squiggle pattern (1) and a wine/black diamond pattern (3) that I will post a pic of later tonight. If you would like either of those, please send me a private message. If you would rather wait for the paw print, I can send you a message when I get those done.
Hi Karen and Bailey, We've been following your blog and left some comments which I'm sure you've seen. Timmy had an ACL injury in June of 2010 and had a "tight-rope" repair done on June 29th. He started physical rehab, (under water treadmill) at 3 wks post op. After 6 weeks of 2-3 times a week, he regained all his muscle mass and is now almost off restriction. In May he can begin to swim again. The pictures you saw were of his xpen prison and the surgical site a few days after the surgery.
It's good to hear from you and we do follow your blog! Keep up the good work, it's really nice.
There was no obvious sign. The only thing I could think of was his tiring on walks that he could normally handle easily, but after resting a moment he'd be raring to go again. He's always and a sway to his hips that I thought was cute but might have been a sign also. Other than that, he'd been perfectly fine. I'm sure Bailey will be just fine, HD isn't very common in corgis :)
Hi Karen and Bailey! We actually haven't been to a corgi meetup in SF before. We attempted to go to the one in Mountain Lake, but found no corgis :( I think we were either too late or on the wrong side of the park..idk. But we're always at Ocean Beach, sometimes Crissy Fields.
Btw, I enjoyed looking through your photos. I especially like the photo of Bailey wearing the green bow tie! And the one with you measuring Bailey's length! Haha..love it!
We got our tris from a fellow member, Kacie from Tracy. Yea Bolt is pretty big but lean, about 35lbs too and Roxy is 30lbs but kinda hefty! Our red and white, Hayley, is pretty lean at 25 lbs...we got her from a breeder in Placerville, but I think they've moved to Arizona.
We won't be able to attend the next one because we will be out of town on vacation. But, we'll definitely try to catch a meetup at Mountain Lake in the future!!!
hi!! that is so exciting to hear - i was wondering if there were any corgi meetups in the city! bukowski has all his vaccines and so we will def be at the next one :)
Glad Uncle had a talk to keep the site updated...hehe :) Yes, Tucker is new!!! It will be 4 months that we have rescued Tucker, on July 6th!!! He really is a sweet corgi and so calm. Has fit in well, yay!! Tucker is estimated to be 3 1/2! Lance is 5 1/2 and will be 6 in July!! I have been on this site half of his life come October!! We just recently found out this past week that Lance has auto immune issues. :( Hoping that we can keep this under control and doesn't go haywire. Tucker joined your group Red and White Corgis. :) I took him to get gromed (mistake), I think, he just doesnt seem to look the same to me. Oh well, thats minor compared to what we are dealing with now. Glad to see you are going to keep mycorgi updated. Was wondering where you have been :)
We had never heard of this until Lance was diagnosed with it, we are learning as we go. Right now he is on steroids, which can be a double edge sword, but we just need to keep an eye on him. He actually needs to gain weight, per vet instructions, now that he is on steriods, that wont be an issue, as they make you gain weight. I am looking forward to the day that Lance is ready to play with Tucker again, not much energy right now, although he does look forward to walks, although in the heat we cant take him out because of the meds. Have to wait for some cooler days.
I was really surprised to find a corgi so close to us in a shelter!!! I have recently seen a lot of ads of corgis in shelters in various states though, so sad. :( If they aren't very common, then why are their so many showing up in shelters.
Before we got Tucker we thought about adding a brindle, but decided against a puppy. I just hope Tucker is a healthy dog. We went back and forth for a long time and decided not to add a second and along come Tucker, and stole our hearts. Guess what we now have a second dog, lol. Must have been meant to be for one reason or another.
Good to see Bailey back on mycorgi.com! We are back home now and P & P can't stop talking about the fun they had with Bailey. Its so cute that they recognize his name now. We took them to Fort Funston on Monday and they immediately remember it and start walking to the bench where they meet Bailey. LOL...we might come back up before Christmas...and hopefully Bailey is available for another family reunion.
Parker is thrilled. Finally someone other than
Penelope to call family. Penelope and Parker
share a grandfather. I have tried to reach out
to Leo's owner. No response but I will try again.
