My name is Kasey. I live for the outdoors. I like hiking, camping, boating, and hunting. I live with my boyfriend Brayden who is responsible for my corgi obession.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
We have two corgis. Our first is a 3 year old male. His name is Max. He is the best dog in the world. He loves fetch and being outside. He goes everywhere and does anything. He is so well mannered people often think he doesn't exist.
Then there is our female we got at the beginning of May. Her name is Zoey. She is a tri and has a one of a kind personality. She is my princess and brightens my world. Couldn't imagine how we lived life without her. She fits perfectly in our little corgi family.
Welcome to the site Kasey and Max! We are just down the road from you in Moses Lake. We head over to Wenatchee quite a bit for shopping. Are there any dog parks in the area? Usually when we have Ashton with us we just stop at Petco and eat at Sonic. LOL Hope all is well and maybe someday our paths will cross! Take care!
My breeder was Lee English who can be googled as the Corgi Lady in Lecanto Fl.
She has years of experience. I bred Frenchies and Bulldogs.....this is a bit different. On Facebook Kathy Scwabbe and also Wendt Worth Low riders Corgis are a big help...Wendy Wendt has a new litter keeping her busy .. Bonnie and Clyde are the 2nd and thrid pups bred at Lees are our babies, not to breed, so am out of the breeding side of it......take care and love the one in the cart.....carol
Oh, I don't blame you. I didn't realize your pup would be Max's baby. I also like simple girl names, that tend to end in the Y or ie sound: Annie, Maggie, Emily, Lucy. My boy corgis began with Gorki, Rookie, Dylan (broke the Y ending) and now Ricky/Rafa. Your corgi is a beauty and it's clear he loves being everywhere that you and your family are. A true herding corgi. Keep us posted on Max's offspring. Best wishes!
Oh, I just commented on Zoey and didn't see that you also have Max, of whom you wrote, "He is so well mannered people often think he doesn't exist." I have to say that I own Max's polar opposite. Ricky-Rafa and Max are different in every way. Wanna switch? ; )
Well Lucy will always be my little one, about 20 lbs. Rafa is no longer little. 30lbs and growing up. No fat, just a bit long in the leg and LONG! They're doing great. Thanks for asking!
i dont mind at all if u want to do play around with my photos:) feel free to go through them. i just love what u did with the photo of your corgis siting next to each other. u really brought out there color
I was delighted to see what you had done with my photo. It was the nicest surprise. Thanks too for your compliment. Actually redoing my photo was a great compliment, too. You have a good eye and picked a good photo for black and white. They can be Bogey and Bacall, haha.
Thanks again for making my guys look like silent screen stars. I cleaned L's eyes. Thanks to angels' eyes, I don't have to clean up photos anymore. That stuff worked miracles. Let me know what you think.
Spider Meadows (Chiwawa R, Phelps Creek?) is a wonderful place. We took Carina in there when she was about 4, her first glissade on snow. If you go to Spider Meadows, try going a little but farther up into Phelps Creek Basin -- there may be a lot more snow than usual this year.
Several photos I've posted here are from Spider Gap, Cloudy Pass, Buck Creek Pass, Fortress Mt., High Pass, and the Napeequa Valley. If you go to Spider Meadows, Spider Gap is not too much farther. There'll be a lot of snow this year, but the little shoestring glacier remnant is not too steep.
I really like the Teanaway area in June - was there a month ago, tons of snow. Navaho Pass has a great view of the Stuart Range., and Navaho Peakis just a bit farther, 7200. Mt Earl is popular, up Beverly Creek.
Ancient Lakes makes a great dogwalk. I've heard Umtanum Ridge is nice.
Look out for critters. We saw some fresh corgi tracks at Tank Lakes -- exactly like Al's -- except they weren't made by a corgi.... I leash the dog at night.
We'll look for you. I want to go up Mt. Maude in the Entiats this summer (E side of Phelps Ck, same trailhead as Spider Meadows). It's 9000, but the south ridge is just a long walk.
Are you talking day-hiking, or an overnight backpack? If you tell me how far you can go, I can offer suggestions.
wta.org is a good website. Search trip reports from "Cascade Liberation Organization", and you'll find Al & Gwynnie's exploits. I think you can search trip reports for "hiked with a dog".
small square foam sleeping pad (standard first-aid item, doubles as dog pad)
pile blanket
Outward Hound(TM) collapsible dog bowl and a tiny 1/2 pint ultralight water bottle to save residual dog bowl water when it's scarce.
Pawz(TM) booties, medium, for emergency sore paws
vet-wrap might be good for paw emergencies but I don't even have any.
chest harness for belay on dangerous river crossings or steep slopes (I tested this to see if it would hold Al vertically suspended if he fell off a high log... and he slipped neatly out of it -- haven't repeated the test, afraid it could hurt his shoulders). My leash is strong enough to belay the dog, has a carabiner at each end so I can clip it to a strong point on my pack. The dog is usually off-leash, the leash kept in quick-draw readiness.
I keep the dog food in a heavy-duty plastic can scavenged from work; O-ring screw-cap, contains odors better than a plastic bag. Dog food being prime bear-bait.
The Doggles sunglasses have not worked well; they scrape them off on the snow.
Dan Nelson wrote a book on dog hikes in western WA, has a valuable introduction with first aid advice etc.
One thing I have NOT done is figure out how to improvise a muzzle. A porcupine would be a really bad experience, and all I have is a good pair of forceps in the first aid kit; I have no idea if they'd work. You'd have to seriously restrain a dog with porky quills in its face.
I bought these crazy "ChillyBuddy" cooling vests, haven't tied them yet, but our dogs wilt in the hot sun above timberline.
Just tried "VitalEssentials" freeze-dried 100% raw dog food, about 50/50 with kibble. Went down well, made him fart... in my sleeping bag...
Do you get a lot of ticks on the east side? Al brought one home in mid-June, when we went to the Teanaway, even though I'd put Advantix on hime the night before we left. The wood/dog ticks are supposedly on the east side of the Cascades, but I sort of recall seeing a range map showing that deer ticks (which vector Lyme disease) are on the wet west side. They're smaller, harder to spot. Don't know if I've ever seen one.
What your breeder's name? Ours (Carrie Hale) likely knows her.
Did you ever get up to Spider Meadows? It's a very popular place -- there were lots of cars at the trailhead when Al & I spent the night on Mt. Maude and Al passed his Porcupine Test.
Thanks for the information. We've been through just about every type of classified we can come across to try and find a tri male pup. If you would be willing to give your breeder a call and see if they have any knowledge of anyone with pups or having them soon that would be a tremendous help.
Thanks so much for the info and the contact! Much appreciated. For a long time we had our hearts set on a puppy but we would absolutely consider 5 months old. We've contacted breeders all over Washington and Oregon, no place is too far if they have our puppy! Thanks again, we look forward to hearing from you.
Sorry so long to reply! This summer has been beyond busy! I really hope we can meet up one of these days for some corgi fun. This coming weekend is the Wenatchee Dog Show but we got so behind on stuff we missed the cut off for entries, shoot! So we are headed to Fall City instead for some Coursing. But we will be entering the agility trial in Wenatchee next month! If you can come out you should check it out. Ashton is still in the Novice class but hopefully he'll get a couple of titles in Wenatchee! (keep your fingers crossed!)
I am so happy you guys are getting into obedience and got to meet Jeff. He is such a sweet guy and does tons and tons of stuff with his dogs. Maybe you'll be ready for competition by the time the Moses Lake show rolls around this spring! (hint, hint) As extra incentive John and I donate a corgi specific prizes in Rally and we'll probably add prizes for obedience too. :D
Hope all is well and the corgi kids aren't melting in this heat! Definitely keep in touch and hopefully we'll cross paths soon! Take care!!

Get over to Ancient Lakes, there's a big loop hike you can do, great in winter when it's cooler.
