About My Corgi(s):
http://www.tumblr.com/blog/snickmom Follow Snickers and friends!
Snickers is a red head tri pemmie, 23 lbs, Dolly is a recently adopted corgi/peke/ewok mix same size and age as Snickers (about 4 yrs old). We also have an English Springer Spaniel who loves to play with the little ones.
We decided to get a corgi because we knew other people who had them and they were neat dogs. Jack Spaniels was 5 years old, when we decided to get a corgi pup for him to play with because our older dog did not have the energy anymore. I did not find a puppy in my area that was in my budget, but my older son was visiting my mom in Missouri so I started searching the web in that area. I found a promising breeder with some cute tri pemmies for sale. I sent an email to my mom asking if they could go look. The next thing I know, I get a call from my son, he said they were in the car, on the way, and were they just supposed to look? Snickers wrapped him around her little paw and he brought her back to my mom's for a week before she flew home in a little carrier under the airline seat. My younger son had to leave for Boy Scout summer camp the morning before his brother and new puppy flew in. Poor kid had to wait a week to hug his new pup. It helped to have envious friends around when they got off the bus! Snickers was raised with children and LOVED them. If we took her to the park and she saw a child she would go nuts! We knew nothing about corgis or training dogs like a corgi and so we made a few mistakes that we are now trying to correct. She has always been a barrel of laughs but never cuddly or comfortable around strangers. She is starting to be a much nicer dog now. More about her accomplishments later.
In the mean time, my mom had taken in Dolly from a rescue organization. Dolly has been living on a ranch where she had acres of land to run around on. Except for teaching her not to leave the property, to bark (I don’t like) when she wanted a biscuit and to sleep on the furniture (I don’t like), she has had no training at all. My mom developed health problems this summer and decided she couldn’t keep Dolly (after a baby duck mysteriously died and the hurricane, etc). Fortunately, my older son was visiting and was able to drive Dolly home (this is getting to be a habit). His girlfriend loves Dolly to pieces and Dolly will be theirs when they can move to a place that allows dogs. Dolly has been getting trained and now knows simple commands like sit, down, fist bump and belly rubs (lay on your back), she stays off the furniture and doesn’t dart out the door, and now we can ever let her come in the front yard with us to get the mail without her running off! She is the most laid back dog you can imagine. She acts like a rag doll and will let you put her in any position. She made friends with Snickers and Jack right away, although it took a while before Snickers figured out how to play with her, now they are best buds. Dolly does not know how to play with people or toys, but when I get time I work with her and she will chase a small toy a few feet and bring it to her bed for a treat. Dolly has her dew claws and an extra toe on her back feet.
I have:
Pembroke

Search and Rescue is actually really easy and the corgi breed is darn smart they love the game.  Codi had to convince some people because the thought she'd have too much trouble going long distances and when she came up against  obstacles.  They obviously didn't know the Corgi.  She showed them though.  She own searched some vetrans that had certificate after certificate (two were border collies) .

    Hello!!!

Peanut has turned out to be a real GEM. He honestly thinks he's a Corgi too. He even sleeps on his back. . . . .LOL

  • Mallory Smith

Thanks, she is precious in that photo.  Unfortunately, there was a slight hitch in the adoption so she's going to stay with the breeder, but I was lucky enough to take home her beautiful healthy sister, who we have named Effie.  Mass amounts of pictures are on their way!

  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

Thank you for the warm welcome. I have added pictures of Bentley, Chloe and Comet.

  • steve smith

What a beautiful page you have. This is the first time I have seen it.  Back to Gomer Pyle, you made me look. It was episode 35 Production number 7133 and aired on 15 Oct 1965. The dogs name was " Killer " and was changed but I could not find out what it was changed to. You have a wonderful family

  • Gromit, Sparkle, and Doug

Sorry, SN, I thought the word got out. I probably should have posted something in the blog here.  Now I'll just have to buy another puppy so it can be in the Daily Corgi too!  LOL

  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

Hope you are keeping cool during this warm weather.
  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

We too are just staying inside. The dogs have just been laying around, not very active.  We go out for training walks in the evening when it is cooler. Bentley sure was surprised by the two earthquakes we felt in our Yorba Linda neighborhood. Every once in a while I feel a little small aftershock.  Did you feel it in your neighborhood?

  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

Bentley felt both of the earthquakes. During both of them we were downstairs. Bentley woke up from his napping, and was concerned / curious.  Chloe slept during the first one, never woke up. She felt the second one. Neither of them barked. The only thing that fell over was Comet's picture... how interesting.

hello marquita, my long lost friend. life has interfered with mycorgi.com. i loved your comment to doug re. his ironed shirts. i love sparkle! he's been soooo spoiled with gromit. sparkle is his just dessert for finding ricky/rafa for me.

meantime, RR has become my romeo, just a sweetheart. I haven't posted on mycorgi that he probably needs ACL surgery. I don't want too many opinions. it's tough enough with my own vets' advice. i think i'm going to go with the tustin orthopedic group for the surgery this week. please let me know what you think. but advice from members across the country would not help me now. moreover, our friend who is a people orthopedic surgeon is coming over within the hour to exam ricky. as if! My vet does ACL surgery but he is a DVM, not trained or board certified in orthopedic surgery. He said he has no problem w/ our going to the specialists in Tustin. He had no ego in this...saying that they have patented procedures that he can't do that cut the recovery time in half.

they use titanium rather than steel and do less cutting and invasive stuff. i'm a wreck. we had planned the surgery weeks ago, but then rr made a major recovery and our vet canceled the surgery, saying rr seemed to have healed himself. we thought we dodged the bullet, but his limping is back and it's much worse now.

hope all is good with you and your 2 and 4-legged fam! xoxo wendy

We had a lab until a few months ago. He wasn't that old, only 8, but we thought he was getting arthritis in his front shoulder. X-rays showed he had cancer everywhere and he went fast. Corkie missed him, but seems very happy to be an only dog now.

  • Sidney and Angie

can't wait to see her collar:) I am doing another raffle in the events catagory if you are interested

    Hi

Tell me how to post info regarding our Corgis in the Snow event and I'll be glad to do so.

I'm brand new to this site.

The tv story link is maybe the best starting point.  Some other stuff is on our club web site.    We started the club in August and I think have made good progress.  For about two years I'd talked about starting a club and when a lady got a permit for corgis to march (?) in an annual parade / arts festival, I took a clipboard with a sign up sheet on letterhead that I made up.   Just realized our club is now six months old.  That process might be of interest to some people.

I've started other organizations before and this is the most spontaneous, with a nucleus of eight people with attitudes like "can do"and "sure, why not!"

Tell me what to write and where to put it.

    Steve

  • Lisa Brady

    Thanks for the link!!!!!

  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

Hi there, how is Snickers feeling?

Our 13 year-old Chloe has had her teeth extracted also.  But she manages to keep on eating just fine.  Takes her awhile to eat her big cookies.

Will you be going to the Corgi Beach Day on 04/20/13?

  • Jane Christensen

The "herd" and Jane want to say "thanks"!
  • Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Hey Snickmom! Didn't you take over the OC group from me considering that Lucy is such a stick-in-the-mud with other Corgis. I just saw a whole bunch of messages and felt so delinquent. :(

  • Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack )

Please let me know if you're not interested and maybe I can find someone else who wants to take over the reins. How's everything with you guys? I miss you!!!

  • Tracy & Sir Bentley

    Bentley says,

    "Happy Birthday Snickers and Dolly"!

    Hope you are doing well.

  • Gerty The Corgi

Thank you so much for the info! I was a little overwhelmed when joining and now I feel I have a good place to start. I appreciate it! :D
