Abbie

Welsh Corgi: An adoptable dog in Chesterfield, MO

Small • Baby • Female
Abbie came to us as a baby just four months old. She was six months old the 11th of November, still a baby. Abbie is a purebred Corgi and what it called a mis-mark. In other words her coloring does not conform to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi standard. For more information go to www.pwcca.org . She has won the heart of her foster parents. Here is what her foster mom has to say.

"Abbie is the cutest little bundle of energy ever. After she eats a meal, immediately she comes running to her foster mom excited as can be to tell her all about how fantastic it was. She loves to be held, but not for too long after all, there are things to do!!!

"She is a very quick learner and picked up sit and lie down with just a handful of treats. Her hips have been x-rayed and she is cleared for agility, which is good, because she LOVES to play on her foster brothers and sisters agility field. She runs through the tunnels like its the best game of chase ever. She is a jumper, but knows the command 'off' and will keep all 4 feet on the floor with the appropriate encouragement. She is not shy of older children, and often plays with the neighbors 8 year old, who has even helped to train Abbie to know her name!

"Like all Corgis, she is food protective with other dogs, but does eat out in the open with the other 4 Corgi kids AFTER theyve all been placed in the lie down and wait position. She waits patiently until released.Such a good girl."

Abbie really would enjoy a home with at least one other small, preferably young dog to play with, but her foster mom thinks shed be okay in a one dog family provided she gets a lot of play time, as she is extremely active. Shes not so well suited to an apartment, as her bark is pretty shrill.Abbie is a talker, making the funniest noises when she is playing with her toys or the other dogs. She is house trained with a doggie door, but does not give notice of her need to go out if she doesnt have automatic access to outside (doesnt bark or ring a bell to go out for potty).

Abbie is spayed, house and crate trained, up-to-date on vaccines, and micro-chipped. She is on heartworm preventative. We would like for Abbie to go to a performance home, preferably agility. She is very intelligent, active, and has a strong drive. Her new home must have a fenced yard. No electronic fences please. See our website at www.petssecondchance.org for more information on electronic fences. For more information please email claireelizabeth@petssecondchance.org or call 314-422-2350. We only adopt in the Greater St. Louis Area. No exceptions.
