I have chives growing around my steps. Never thought twice about them until today. My cat only goes out occasionally, and then on a harness. She let me put her harness on today, so we went out and sat on the steps. I thought she was eating grass until I smelled onions...it was grass and chives. After a google search and a call to the vet, she should be fine. I need to take her in for a blood draw next week to do a cbc and check for anemia. Becca has never shown interest in them, but I am leaning toward tearing them all out or moving them to the garden out back.

I knew onions were poisonous, but never connected them to chives...

Heh, I've had a number of cats munch on chives and never had a problem. They all lived to a ripe old age. Of course the amount they ate and how often really wasn't that much. I found this from http://messybeast.com/bad-foods.htm "Chives are sometimes used as a flavouring in commercial cat foods. Although potentially toxic to cats (in large quantities), chive leaves are eaten rather than the bulbs. Some cats are attracted to chives and will eat them from the herb garden."

If Becca has not shown any interest so far, I would say you are probably safe to leave them there.  I have a cat who always chews everything green outside or inside that he can get ahold of... and then he gives it back on the carpet about 15 minutes later lol!
