Hi Everyone!

So I really want to get Scooter (my almost 9 month old corgi) into herding sometime around the age of one. Does anyone know of a place that does instinct testing or herding classes in Northern VA/DC/MD or around that area?

The Chesapeake Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club sponsors herding trials periodically in this area (the last one was in Berryville, VA last May). I believe you might get somewhere if you contact Keepstone Farm or the CCWCC. I think there is going to be a trial for all herding breeds in the Richmond area in October. If I find the details, I'll let you know. (I want to have my boys tested, too.)
Oh thank you!! I'll try contacting both of them. Good luck to your boys! :)
Ali, in case you are interested, Working Aussies of VA will hold a herding instinct test (and other dog sport demos/classes) in Ashland, VA (south of Fredericksburg) on Oct. 9. Your dog has to be at least nine months old to do the instinct test. (Jon Farleigh will be taking the test, but Dewi needs to get a bit older.) This is a fantastic club (know a wonderful dog trainer who is a member). I was told the club holds instinct tests every month.

oh wonderful!! Thank you! :) I am going to look into them today. And good luck!
PWCCP also does one in MD that we went to last year. It was pretty low key and nice. We stayed at a hotel nearby for the night and went in early that morning for the day.
