So I'm a little paranoid of Dog Kennels. we are going to be going on our vacation this year possibly and while we have family that COULD watch Moose, I'd rather him be somewhere for trustworthy. My Fiance's great grandma has watched him for one day for us, but she doesn't drive and if something happened to Moose, I don't know how she'd get him to a vet. My fiance's dad could, but he doesn't like to take moose is he has a young litter because he's a breeder. we would be going to Tokyo, Japan, and it's an 18 hour flight from here (Layover in chicago on both ways, to and from). My parents don't have a fenced in yard and they have a large dog (german sheperd) and he's not too keen on other dogs.

I'm really afraid of leaving Moose alone for a measly week at a kennel but I've never experienced kennels before. Lol. I planned already on calling whoever does take care of him for us everyday to check up on him, but I think that's just part of my being paranoid of them? I want to make sure the place he stays has a fenced in area, he will only be with other small dogs, will be supervised while with other dogs, and will feed moose our food and our treats and give him his toys that we leave with him, and lay some of our clothes with him. Also that if something happens to him they will take him to his vet asap and call us asap because we are taking our cellphones with us and paying for the international minutes and everything. Are my "wants" for a kennel that crazy?

Are they really something to be afraid of? and does anyone have some reccomendations?

I found that one advertises kennel services for $25 per day, seperates dogs by size, and has a fenced in yard ,but I figured I'd see if anyone here had any reccomendations first. It's VERY close to my fiance's great-grandma (probably 5-10 minutes away by car) It has all good reviews on google and their facebook page but I just am afraid of Moose getting hurt/sick while we're gone or being too lonely
Do you have a Petsmart Petshotel close to you?  That's where we always leave our doggies when we're gone.  They are fantastic!  They have 2 different rooms you can choose from (a standard room, or a suite complete with TV and cot to sleep on), and they do group and/or individual play times with your dog, depending on their needs.  They also have a daily ice cream snack, at least at the one we use.  The people there are great and you can tell they really love being around dogs.  We've never had an issue there and I'm always at peace when we're out of town knowing that my doggies are getting pampered.
What do they do during the night-time when the store is closed?
There are always people there with the animals.  You can even drop-off and pick-up outside of store hours.
We leave our dogs with a groomer who also does pet sitting in her home.  You can try and ask the Vets in your area if they know of anyone who pet sits in their home that they can recommend.  These things usually go by word of mouth.
