Hi, I realize that this is off topic, but a good friend of mine is looking to adopt a King Shepherd Puppy. And is wanting a "proper" breeder, for lack of better term. Sorry, I don't wish to offend, but she is worried about puppy mills, etc. She doesn't want to get it from a pet store either. I know she would be an excellent mommy to any animal. So can anyone enlighten me? Do you know of a breeder who lives in Canada or would be willing to ship to Canada? Also, Is a King Shepherd the same as the German Shepherd Breed? Just a larger version? I would appreciate any help.

thanks.

Wow, I didn't know such a beautiful dog exists! I looked it up on Wikipedia and all it says is that it's a breed developed in the 1990's from 3 different dog breeds. Here is what I found on the King Shepherd Club website:

"A King Shepherd resembles a large German Shepherd Dog. The breed was originally developed on the East Coast using American bred German Shepherds, crossed to flock guardians, which were then crossed with European bred German Shepherd dogs. The intent was to develop a superior family companion and protector that was capable of performing a wide variety of working duties ranging from police service, to guide dogs, to search and rescue dogs. The original breeders also wanted to produce a dog which was free of the many health and temperament problems, which has been affecting German Shepherd Dogs."

And as for breeders, I can't help there. It takes a while to find a good breeder as it is, and this seems to be a pretty rare type of dog. I would keep searching the internet, and try to find the official CKC club website (if there is one). They should have links to breeders.
