First of all, we would like to thank all the members who've submitted photos and purchased the
2009 calendars! We had a great success and have raised over $1000. We have donated $700 to
Sunshine Corgi Rescue and have since saved $300 for this year upcoming partial printing cost. (yes, we fronted all the printing cost last year) We hope to sell even more calendars this year and to help other rescues around the country. Now that we are a 501c3 non profit charity, we have more ways to save on shipping and printing cost! Lower production cost = more money goes towards different rescues.

I wonder if it could be the flash? I never really thought about it, because when I used to use my SLR I never used a flash for animal shots, but my little point-and-shoot digital will automatically use fill-in flash. It could have hurt his eyes, and they are so smart that a couple bad experiences would be enough to make him look grumpy whenever he sees a camera.

Hmm.
Honestly - I meet a ton of dogs who are bothered by cameras when I photograph them. (Including Piper, actually, one of my own.) My guess is that on a lot of them, it's the fact that you've brought something up to your face and it throws off your expression and body language. We tend to get stiff and still and intense while we're shooting with any camera.

It's funny - I turned out my horses one day in the arena to photograph them loose and moving, and my mare's totally 'whatever' about things and took off bucking and having a grand time. My gelding started to trot and then immediately came to a stop across from me because I'd taken a step forward and straightened up- that's his cue to stop when we're lunging. I think sensitive animals are often really so cued into what we do that the camera throws them sometimes. (And yeah, the flash - I know a lot of critters who close their eyes on seeing a camera, too.)

Best way I personally have found to take pictures of those kind of animals is to sit out there in a two or three hour session and distract them with toys and other things going on around them while shooting. :)
I made a few comments on your earlier post, but the built-in flash of many point-n-shoot digital cameras can be very troublesome for dog photos. First, the flash is usually too close to the lens, which causes you to end up with red eye. Second, they often do some sort of strobing pre-flash which delays the picture taking and makes it more difficult to catch just the right moment.

Although I suppose every dog is different, the flash itself shouldn't be too much of a problem. I used to have a photo studio and photographed lots of dogs with flashes a lot brighter than what come out of a point and shoot. But then, those are specialized sorts of flashes that don't shoot directly into the dogs eyes (the flash light bounces out of an umbrella or light-softening enclosure).
Yep Brody now hates the camera and unfortunately when I turn mine on it does a little "ta-da" so he runs before I can even aim it at him.
This may have been answered before, but I wasn't a member last year, so I didn't get a chance to buy one of the calendars. Would they be shipped to Canada as well as the US? It would definitely be nice to see some tri corgis in the calendar too! I like the idea of everyone voting for their favourites, that seems fair :) I also love the idea of the calendar having all 365 days, but if it's not possible, maybe each month could have 2-4 different pictures of corgis on it? That way we can get more people's corgis showcased, so to speak :)
Yes, we shipped several to Canada, Germany, Australia, Asia...etc.
I am going to need at least 4 calendars, so all you corgis out there....say cheese!!!
Thanks for doing this Sam! You make all of our corgi lives a little richer.
It really depends on the type of photos coming in, if we see a pattern of themes and they are high quality photos, then the possibility of a different themes for each month is quite high, if you pay attention to this year's calendar, we tried to place the voted photos in an order that make sense. like a snow background for december...etc.
Yes, words do get around and we have rescuers from around the country among our membership, when the right time comes (closer to completion), we can make an official announcement.
Put Maggie & I down for at least 3!
what about adding a inspirational corgi poster with the calander...
Count me in! ^O^
