I grew up with corgis, but just recently (last Friday, in fact) adopted my "own" corgi puppy. He's 6 months old and nameless! My fiance and I have been on every website searching dog and human names, and nothing seems to "fit." I wanted to avoid anything too common or like the "greatest hits" of boy dog names. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated--by my corgi, too!

When I got my first Corgi I wanted to be sure and give him and English name. After all they are the Queens dogs. We named him Basil...after the mouse on the Disney movie "The Great Mouse Detective"...Basil of Bakers Street. The mouse equivalent of Sherlock Holmes. It just so happens that the man that played Sherlock Holmes in the first movies was Basil Rathbone. He was the best Corgi ever and it remains my favorite name for a distinguished Corgi! Funny. When I got my last little female Corgi is when I found this website. I did a google search for Corgi names and ended up here. Our others have a royal theme. Lizzie (Q Lizzie Beth after the Queen, Fergie--after Sarah Ferguson. I think Spencer is a nice royal name as well. My one year old male broke the Royal mode and we named him Brodie. I also like Guinness...as a dog name as well. Onslow was another name I liked--goofy I know. Good luck to you. So much fun ahead.
Thank you both! It's such a big decision...Thanks for the guidance!!

Kristen--I LOVE the name Basil! I think a distinguished name like that is just perfect for a distinguished little corgi! And thanks for the well-wishes. :)
l'll be intersted to see what your final pick is. All the best!
Our corgi is named "Lando Oliver Thomas Dishnetwork Radar Porter"
What about Ein, or Ian they seem popular with the corgi meetup group, because of the Cowboy Bebop Comics.
We named him Leo. My fiance says he's named after Leonardo DaVinci, but secretly I know I named him after Leonardo DiCaprio! :)
Years ago we had a boxer took the whole neighborhood to name her Anastasia Louise or Annie Lou.

A website of Welsh Names!

My pup is named Chester, which is a City in England near the border with Wales. I've always wanted a female Corgi and name her Carli (short for Carlin, which is Welsh for "little champion).

But, really, what's in a name? I call my dog SOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo many nicknames......

Good luck! and Congratulations on your new best friend!!!!!!!!
