Becca and I have walked two or three times a day everyday since I got her last March. Today we walked in freezing rain. I need to come up with a plan for this winter. My town does not plow the sidewalks, so my walking areas will be unavailable. I will be able to use an access road down by the river as I do now. The length is only about a third of out normal jaunt.

Any suggestions on how to blow off some energy once I'm dealing with several feet of snow?

My corgi Ben blows off energy chasing a laser pointer around the house. We are very careful to make sure it's never shined in his eyes. I never would have thought he would go crazy over it. Seems to work for us.

Does she like to chase balls?  My Emma does, and I use that to exercise her in the winter.  If there's snow, I make snowballs with a Chuck-It and throw them for her to chase.  She loves it, and I love watching her bunny hop through the snow.  Indoors, I set out shoeboxes to make an obstacle course in her ball-chasing path so she has to jump over them.  She seems to really like that.  I'm thinking of taking her to an agility class too.

I love the boxes idea. I have some pvc hurdles that I set up in the hall, but I never thought of using them with a ball.

Frank and I play with a lunge whip. He loves to chase the rope and will burn off a lot of energy that way. I used to use the laser pointer but he is SO OBSESSED with it that he will start taking anything small and plastic that looks like the pointer off my coffee table or entertainment center, etc. He's generally a dog that you can leave food or anything on the coffee table while you are gone and he wont' touch it. I don't like how crazy he is with the laser so I switched over to the lunge whip. We also play with his Wubba toy. In the winter I also decrease his food a bit and give him more interactive toys. The Kong Genius (the cylinder shaped one) is a really good one when you mix some kibble/treats/whatever with peanut butter. Takes a long time to get it all out, regular kongs generally take frank about 5 minutes frozen or not. I also give him more rawhides and that kind of stuff to chew in the winter so he keeps busy.
