I have seen a flyer for a really fancy daycare in Richmond, but I don't have the name. It exists and you will know it when you see it :)  I know I couldn't afford it but it looked really nice.
What part of Richmond?  I'm in southeast Chesterfield County, and I know of two down here (one is actually farther out past Varina).  Whatever you do, don't use Four Paws in Richmond; they've been in the news for extreme negligence, causing the death of a puppy.

Okay, I just remembered this one in Richmond's far west end:  http://www.duderanchpetresort.com/

I haven't used it, but I've received excellent reviews about it from at least a couple folks.  let me know if you want the other two names of places near me (I can personally vouch for both).

We are visiting that area and wanted to drop our two corgis off for 1 day while we sightsee.  We haven't booked a hotel yet but it's likely to be the La Quinta which is apparently in South Richmond.  But I'd be willing to drive a bit for a good place.  Thanks for the tip about Four Paws.  Scary!

Here's the one near me that would be closest to you: http://westchesterpetresort.com/  I know exactly where the La Quinta is. This place is gonna be about 15-20 minutes south.  It has stellar reviews and they're awesome (a vet owns it).  The Dude Ranch will be about a 30-40 minute drive north and west of you.

I don't know of any places in C'ville, but if I hear of something, I'll let you know.

Have fun!

Note: When I googled for pet resorts in chesterfield, VA, Four Paws came up first. I'm SO glad you won't be trying them!

Linus' flyball lessons are at All Dog Adventures in Richmond.  The facility is amazing (wonderful example of a reused medium sized factory) but I do not know about daycare......looks like it is set up for it, though!  All the best from Williamsburg:  Nancy

Thanks everyone!  Per Elizabeth's recc, we are going with the West Chester Pet Resort.  I hope Stanley & Charlie like it!  They've been very friendly over the phone.

Now, if anyone has any thoughts on "must sees" in that area, we're taking recommendations on that too, lol.

Have you visited yet, Stanley and Charlotte?  You "must see" historic Monument Avenue (won't need to get out of your car). If you want to learn about Virginia's history, go to the State Capitol and take a tour. I've done it twice now. For shopping, there's a cool uptown district called Carytown - not your typical chain stores, but some neat ecclectic shops and lots of good places to eat.  There are also the Shockoe Slip and Bottom areas. St. John's Church (Revolutionary War landmark) and Edgar Allen Poe's old house/museum are in the Bottom. The Slip is a cool downtown street paved in cobblestone.

Although Richmond is known as The River City, the James River is hard to appreciate from within the city.  If you want to see the river and explore its history (and there's plenty), you should come south and see either Henricus Historical Park or a James River Plantation (Shirley would be a good one).  You'll get incredible river views and lots of history at either place.

I hope this was not too late. Have fun!

Yes, Stanley and Charlotte made their way to VA and had a wonderful stay at the daycare you recommended. They even called me half way through the day to tell me that Stanley and Charlotte were running around the yard with a beagle and another corgi puppy and having a great time! That gave us humans some free time to explore the city. We made it to the State Capitol, the Edgar Allen Poe museum, and took a canal cruise. We also got to the Hollywood Cemetery and had coffee in the Slip. The first night we arrived we had delicious beers and burgers in Carytown and we were able to bring the dogs along. The waiter there said he also had a tri-color corgi at home and didn't see too many in Richmond. All in all - we had a great time. We're looking to relocate sometime in the near future and Richmond is on our list of potential spots. Thanks for all the recommendations!

That's wonderful (all of it)!  I hesitate to mention Hollywood Cemetery as a must-see, although I agree that it is. :)

Can you remember the name of the burger and beer place in Carytown? Was it Carytown Burgers and Fries? I'm trying to help another friend find some dog-friendly places to eat in that area.

Goof luck with your relocation decision. :)  Richmond is a great place to consider. ;)
