Hello, My girlfriend and I will be driving up to north dallas from houston to pick up our new tri-color welsh corgi on saturday and are very excited.

We want to be prepared to take in this young one and thought id ask a local corgi network site.

I myself have experience taking care of 2 dogs w/ my family but now one is 7 and one is 3 so its been a while since i took care of a puppy. This will be my girlfriends 1st puppy.

So what should i be ready for? The pup will be almost 7 weeks if not a little of 7 weeks old. He hasnt had his first set of shots, breeder told me that her vet recommends to wait til they are 8 weeks old to get a shot. So when and where should i get him vaccinated. Also with heartworm pills, should i go ahead and order them online? are the a specific kind i should get for corgi. Also i was looking at getting pet insurance but wasnt sure if it would be useful. I read that it covers accidents and emergencies but will it cover vet visits, vaccinations, and medicine?
