Dog Food! What do you Feed your Puppy / Adult corgi?
Wet Food? / Dry Food / Raw Food?
In Todays world the buzzword is Health and the question is are you feeding your dog what you consider healthy?
I've done extensive research and have come upon a website I felt i should share with you lovely corgi owners as i plan to also feed my dog premium food. I'm Not spamming of course. This is a helpful resource in my opinion that had an abundance of information about dog food brands that we all so often disregard.
I used to think that the commercials I saw on TV were the right kinds of dog food. BOY was i wrong.
I definitely plan on purchasing something along the lines
So What do you feed your dog and are they possibly allergic to anything?
My plan is to take what Kim gives me with the puppy cause they are probably used to it, and slowly ease them into a grain free puppy food like Orijen, Innova Evo or Merrick. I also am giving Blue Wilderness a gander. Do any of you owners have this brand? I definitely have nothing against what she is feeding her puppies of course cause she appears to breed such quality dogs.

I'm going to continue with the Purina Pro Plan. My vet says a lot of the specialty foods are a waste of money and after discussing options with her in-depth I'm going to lean on both her and Kim's expertise and also that of my friend who is just graduating with a veterinary degree.
A lot of this material is based on the specious conclusion that dogs are carnivores. Although they are in the class Carnivora, which is part of what leads to the confusion, they are not obligate carnivores like cats who have a short long intestine. Dogs should be correctly classed as omnivores due to their ability to digest and use a variety of food sources healthily.
I see no reason to feed my dogs a diet free of a healthy proportion of grains and in light of that and the rest I'm comfortable continuing with PPP and feel it's an informed and responsible choice. -

Dogs have a very adaptive digestive system, I've seen them fed a variety of different types Veggies like Carrots and Green Bean Stalks as treats. But the overall food benefits dogs gain from is about 40% meat, 50% veggies, and only about 10% grain or other carbohydrate. Grain isn't as important while Veggies are.
One thing I can say with certainty is that as long as your dog has no issues such as scratching / or any awkward stomach issues and appears in great health, what your feeding your dog is great and i say keep going. I personally have alot of allergies, i cant eat alot of common things without being sick. Shrimp for instance, causes me to break out in hives.
I have read alot of owners having different results with their dogs and so i think its great to have options as some dogs can be allergic to a variety of the content found in foods. Every dog is different so its better to pay attention to what is going on with your dogs as you feed them. You probably do NOT want to feed a puppy a grain free diet as the food may be too rich for them, but as your dog matures you may want to pay attention to their needs.
I will stick with Pro Plan for 8 to 12 months because i trust Kim, but i would also like to mix in other things so that the dog gets a diverse set of nutrients. The reviews I've read about some of these analyzed brands is coat and energy difference primarily. I don't think there is a 1 brand food fits all kind of deal and as long as your dog is great keep going! -

I did the same thing, I was super food obsessed. I personally like a variety of different foods for Bailey, so we feed her a rotation diet of different proteins. I do like the high protein, grain free foods. They work well for Bailey since she is quite an active little girl (sheep herding, agility, and just constantly always on the go). When she was a puppy she was on Wellness puppy. I switched her to Wellness Core when she was about 8 months old. We are doing a rotation with Wellness Core (Chicken) and Evo (Red Meat) right now. We might add Instinct, Blue Wilderness or something else in there as well.
Basically, it all depends on what is best for the dog. Our senior shepherd mix was on Pedigree for the longest time (this was before I got involved in his food decisions). he got really really sick at one point and almost died. His stomach hasn't been the same since. We started looking for a better food for him, and after trying many different brands, ended up with Wellness Senior for him. He is doing excellent on it.
I rely strongly on dogfoodanalysis.com, but I know many people have problems with it for a variety of reasons. Dogfood can be a sensitive topic for some people, but I think as long as YOU and your pup are doing well with whatever you choose, you won :-)
Let us know what you decide...I always like to hear what other people feed, in the hopes of finding some company that I have never heard about. I really enjoy researching dogfood and do it a lot in my free time. Even if I am not planing on switching from what we currently use :-).

Bonny also gets fruit and veggies as treats. She loves bananas (just a couple of slices in the morning), she loved apples, green beans, strawberries, etc. Actually, I think this dog would eat anything that didn't eat her first!

I feed Ein and Brian Canidae All Life Stages since I find that it's the best value for my money. It's 5 star food, according to dogfoodanalysis.com, and it's a lot cheaper than the other dog food in the same rating.
When I first got Ein, he came with Eukanuba puppy food. I did some research on dog food and found out all about fillers, by-products, nasty preservatives, food colorings, etc. and then decided to switch to Canidae ALS. His stool became smaller and more firm (yay!)
So...since Canidae ALS can be fed to dogs of ALS, I decided to wean Brian off of Purina Pro Plan and get him on it too. Canidae does have a grain-free variety but I choose to feed the one that has grains, since grains (the good ones) are welcome in my book. Ein and Brian are not allergic to it, so it's all good. Ein, Brian, and I love Canidae :) -

I kept Bonny on the Purina Pro Puppy that Kim started her on for a year, then switched to the Canidae. Both dogs seem to be doing well on it and their coats are very shiney.

I switched Nibbler to Blue Buffalo for a while, and now she is on Evo small bites. She looooooooves the Evo. She was a pretty picky eater but she will eat the Evo within a few minutes of me putting it down on the floor.

Well, tonight we found out that Bonny likes green beans (she got two) and a small bite of watermelon. She thinks they are treats and cheaper then store bought.

what is it about Evo??? haha, Bails is on it right now too, and she is loving it. Do you do the red meat or the chicken??? we do red meat kibble but I mix in some of the can either chicken or red meat and there is never anything left in her bowl...
