I have three teenage kids and I just love being a Mom to a Corgi also! I live in sunny Southern California with the three kids, three dogs, two cats and a most wonderful husband.
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
Sidney is our first purebred corgi and we are thrilled to have him. He was born 7/11/07. We planned to start him in agility training, but there was a long waiting list. So while waiting for an opening, we took classes for therapy dog training. As it turns out, he's a pretty good therapy dog, so we stuck with that and never got around to agility. Now he is training as a Rally dog. We love it! He's one smart little character! Oh, and he's undocked, so his beautiful tail attracts a lot of attention - good attention.
On August 30th, Sidney suddenly came up lame in his hind left leg. The next day we got xrays for him and found out he has severe hip dysplasia. On Sept 7th he had a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain. His right hip is not in great shape either but we're hoping that with glucosamine supplements and exercise we can keep it healthy. *Update* You would never know Sid has surgery now. He moves beautifully. The water therapy and supplements have worked wonders.
Bruce is our corgi/elkhound (?) mix. We rescued him from the brink of euthanasia when he was approximately 10-11 years old (he had a day or two left to go). He's about 16 now and his only sign of his advanced age are bad teeth and slow mornings. I adore Brucie and he worships me. He's my funny short angel with a puffball tail (thanks to the elkhound side). He's about 18 now and going strong.
Chester is our "tall dog". He's a black dane/lab mix that we got from a "free to good home" ad in the local newspaper. He's also old, about 15 years old. We know his age because we've had him 14 years, and he was an adult when we brought him home! He's a very serious dog and not very affectionate compared to the corgis, but he has been a very good dog, just aloof. We can't take Chester as many places as the shorties because he does not travel well. He's almost 17 now and has definitely slowed down. *UPDATE* Chester had a sudden decline and was sent to the bridge on April 15th 2013 at the age of 17.
In February 2013 we added Connie to our family. She's a little tri corgi who was picked up as a stray and put up for adoption at our local Humane Society. She's a real sweet girl and loves to play ball. She's learning a lot from Sidney about life here. We can't believe that her family never came to claim her. She's got good manners and she gets along well with the other dogs and the cats, and everyone she meets is her best friend.
And the pack grows! In November we took in a black-headed tri who we named Copper. He and Connie were both born in 2009 and they are great buddies and a ball-chasing tag team. Copper is sweet and cuddly and eager to please.
Thanks so much! I just keep thinking of happy memories and that is helping me not be too sad while he's still here. I dont want him to remember me sad you know...Also looking at your healthy pup makes me smile too. Its neat to look at other peoples funny photos and videos.
Bruce looks beautiful. He seems to be hanging in there so I will keep him in my thoughts! We are doing ok here. I am watching videos of riley and reading books on pet loss. So we are doing ok. Coming on the site helps as well. Thanks
Thank you so much! That rainbow definatly helped get me through. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful box. I am so glad they gave us that and not some cheap junk. How is bruce? Keep me updated! I am still praying you have a lot of time with him. If for some reason you don;t just try to appreciate every day you do have and spend a lot of time with him while you can because once they are gone...It's just not the same. The creamation is a good idea we thought because then riley can always come with us because we arent going to live in this house forever. So I do think that is the best thing.
Sidney is beautiful, I can tell he likes getting his picture taken! He has a great poising quality and looks right at you with those big, adorable eyes!
Thank you for the warm thoughts for Fern. She is such a little love. Hopefully it will all work out for the best. She is deserving of a long haealthym happy life. So sorry to hear about Sydney's encourter with the car. So terrifying for all of you. I have started walking the dogs out in the harvested bean fields so we don't have to deal with the occassional car or truck on the road. They think every vehicle is there to see them...Not so silly Corgi.
He was being bossy, but also very cute! Hehe. I'll post more pictures on the meetup site once I get a chance to upload them all. :) Sydney is so fun and good natured, I just love watching him play, even when he's being a pill to the other dogs. Hehe. I'm looking forward to the next playdate too!
Oh thanks! The vinyl makes him look like a bit of a stripper, but I still love it. :D I can't wait to see what all the Corgi costumes will be at the meetup this weekend. We'll miss seeing you and Sydney, but we'll be sure to take lots of pictures.
I am going to stop at Petsmart on my way home to see if I can find one of those inflatables. I would much rather use that. At least it wouldn't dig in when it gets caught on the floor!
thanks for comment on my blog....glad you enjoyed the pics---hey, if you have a halloween costume pic of your corgi kid dressed and you would like it to be included in my www.sansanpups.com post, do send me a pic...to my email, sandra@srchow.com. i will put the post up on friday ---ck out the site!
Thanks for your kind words, in regards to the blog comment.
Our first Corgi, Bailey died from PARVO related complications as well as a GIARDIA infection. She began showing signs of her illness within 2 DAYS of bringing her home, and despite the efforts of 3 different VETS, and around the clock care....she was gone within 9 days of having her. We were sold a SICK puppy. And to this day, cannot reach the breeder we purchased her from. Be VERY careful whom you obtain your pets from!!!!!!
LOL He does well in the heat. Of course, as you may expect, he spends most of his time in the A/C, sprawled out with his belly on the cool tile floors. Oddly, though, there are times when he will go sit in the blazing sun when it's 110 degrees in the backyard. I hate when he does that, and I try to get him back inside ASAP. I won't play with him outside after about 10am in the summer, until the sun is going down in the evening.
Wow, you sure did hear back fast! I'm definitely interested in getting Theo's herding instinct tested. Just let me know what you are free and we'll be there! :D
Hi Geri and Sydney! I hope you are all well! sorry i haven't been around lately I had been sick and trying to unpack in the new house. I hope that you were not affected buy the fires! has sydney started his agiltiy yet?
I know that i am going to sound a little silly but there are sheep down there? haha how exciting! i have onnly seen a dog work stock a few times. though never a corgi, it has to be one amazing sight!
Thanks for the welcome! After Julie's post about voting for Theo's Halloween Costume in the meetup board, I decided to join this site. Finally, I have a site where everything is Corgi!
Thanks for your cares and concerns. Trixie is eating, running and playing again. It's silly, but it was so endearing to see her acting goofy and running like a nut today(like she normally does!). It definately warmed my soul!
it happened in 5 minutes in my backyard 50 ft from the door. Yes, it was incredibly devastating. . .I loved her so much. She was the same to me as a human child is to someone else. She never left my side and went everywhere with me . . . even my doctors let her in the office. ;) Visit her memorial and you can read about her in the guest book. Love and care, Michell
Hi and thank you for the welcome. Sidney is sooooo cute. I just love this website. I will be adding more pictures as I fumble around this page. We haven't had as much rain this fall as in the past. But still more than San Deigo. LOL Take care, Cindi and Tucker too!
I'm confused about the calendar -- I thought I saw the final selections. Al wasn't in it. )-: He's crestfallen and jealous, since Gwynnie got to be the cover girl on the 2007 Darwin's Pet Foods calendar.
There's a company that makes hardbound picture books from your photos, and someday I'm going to make one of Gwynnie & Al's adventures.
But now I need a new camera -- my Canon A75 just died -- might have had something to do with all that dog hair trapped in the moving parts?
They really do recognize "Sit. Stay. Look pretty." as a standard command. Trouble is, they're so bored with being photo props, they don't look at the camera. Tip: get the photo all set up, then to get them to face the camera, just say the one thing that will get their attention:
Thank you Geri. I am so glad I found this site. I am having so much fun meeting other Corgi Moms. Corgi's are very special and once you have one, (or they have you) your heart will never be the same. Cindi
"...and I really hope your entry is chosen (good January picture---brrr, snow!) "
Actually, that photo was late September. The "snow" is mostly glacier ice. We had to do that trip twice to get that photo; the previous year, the visibility was normal, i.e. zero and raining.
For next Hallowe'en, Al & Gwynnie are going to be Seattle Mountain Search & Rescue dogs: they'll have a red SMSR vest, but instead of a St. Bernard's brandy cask under their chin, they'll have a Starbuck's thermos. :-)
aww....thanks for the compliment...our messages crossed and I didnt see your compliment until just now when I went over the chat again. You wrote Lance is beautiful and I answered Hooray to Shanon and never saw your compliment.....anyways....Thank You!!! : )
Hey sorry we haven't talked in a while every time I go to the chat room I miss everyone. And today I signed on and went otnthe chat room and missed you by 3 mins. LOL. And congratulations I heard your sis had a baby! I'm like obsessed with baby's lately cuz my Aunt and Uncle just found out they are having a baby and my family's real close I really can't get into much more detail at this moment but next time we talk i'll fill you in. Bye!

But I had difficulty selecting checkboxes on the vertical-format pics, so a fear an electoral bias. We need international election monitors.
