About Me:
I own a small retail pet store in Washington State, and used to do Search and Rescue with my German Shepherd, Gabriel, who passed away suddenly in Feb. (He was happily bossed around by his Corgifriends, who miss him terribly.) I also have several cats, and two wonderful horses.

Surprisingly, everyone gets along fairly well... *grin*

About My Corgi(s):
My Pembroke Corgi is a rehomed/rescue dog, and I breed and show Cardigan Corgis.

Riley: My shop dog and constant companion, Riley was a puppy mill dog. He was dropped off at my shop when he was 12 weeks old; the person who bought him realized she made a bad decision to buy him, and couldn't keep him... He's a great ambassador for his breed, and also a great way to explain why you shouldn't purchase a pup this way.

"Simon Sez" aka Simon - my blue merle Cardigan Corgi. He is my number one photo-fella - he knows exactly what the camera is and he works it like any good model. He's an incredibly intelligent guy with a ton of personality and drive. You ask, he does, and he does it with style -- talk about a truly perfect gentleman of a dog.

"Caleb" - Our other show Cardigan Corgi, a red brindle male born in December 08. He struts his stuff in the ring; he likes to show off, and he likes to show. He's got a bit of an ego, I'm afraid, but he loves any and all dogs, cats, and random hamsters... and assumes they should just love him right back.

Temperance: Our new blue merle Cardigan girl and show/obedience prospect!

Tess and Rachel - Caleb's daughters and my newest show prospects!
I have:
Both Pembroke and Cardigan

Yes, that's Cloodle the Doodlehead in all her cute smileyness :). Great to see you!
  • Liz

    Hi Shepdog, love your pictures!
  • The Mau

heyas Shep! Thanks for the compliments! *whispers on the side "feeds her ego"*

Time does fly. Can't get over how big she is getting.
  • Cassie and Jaunty

Thanks, that was a tough win. The GSD puppy actually had a handler on him, OES in full coat, Sheltie standing like a statue, etc. I was shocked to win it. He also won over three Cardi bitch puppies (all older than him and one already pointed). Wish I could blog about it, stupid Blackberry won't let me.
  • Cassie and Jaunty

More thoughts- How do you get rid of waves (on Jauntys back)? Do you take whiskers off? Should I take the thinners to the lump of coat on his chest? He's in between puppy and adult coat, and its driving me crazy! I love Korats! Always wanted an Oriental Shorthair, because they look like the sighthounds of the cat world. I have an 11 year old, blue cream longhair, with diabetes. She still doesn't really like Jaunty, but we love her anyway. Jaunty will be shown in a Herding Group Specialty on Fri. Then two huge all breeds on Sat. and Sun. All with majors. I would love some points now, but the competition is fierce! We have some of the top Cardigan breeders in the country in the area. Keep in touch, I love talking to someone on this site that isn't offended by the word "bitch"!
  • Christine Jones

Thanks for the warm welcome! I noticed you too have spots and stripes and a little red thrown in for measure! =)
  • Cassie and Jaunty

Jaunty didn't win his class until Sunday when I put a handler on him. My handling is not the best, apparently. But I'll keep working on it. The competition was ridicules! I was happy when he finally won his puppy class. My friend Diana (Fernbriar Cardigans), finished her year old male, Boogie, with the majors on Sat and Sun. I'm glad he is out of the classes, and of course, very happy for Diana. Twinrocs Santa Paws won the breed all three days. He is gorgeous! After emailing Jaunty's breeder and Diana, I left his whiskers, but did use the thinners to minimize a few deep waves and left his chest alone. But after seeing the other Cardis, I know I don't have to worry about his waves after all. The dog that won the points on Fri, has a very wavy coat. His next show will be Rochester Minn. Sept. 12. We have work to do before that though, he's going through a "Only MOM can look at my teeth, and if anyone else tries I'm going to FLIP OUT!" stage. Good luck to your guys, let me know how they do. And have fun in Vegas!
  • Christine Jones

You can never have too many friends and the fact we're kind of related, well you can't beat that!!!! =)
  • Anne

So Caleb came from Notzmo? Our dog Le-Le came from Sharon Nottingham's kennel in OK and we got her at two years old. She has beautiful dogs. George was Le-Le's father. Any relation? Also do you know other dogs from her kennel on mycorgi? Your dogs are very cute!
  • Jamie Jo

My dogs love their hip cookies :) I walked in the door after buying them and they heard the bag and came running towards the door :)

It was nice to meet Simon and Caleb!
  • JILL

    - thought you'd like to know that I, too, can't get enough of Sharon's puppies. After falling in love with both Figg and Newton on her web page, I should have known not to look any more. But, there was Siren (soon to be Biscotti - biscuit for short) and I couldn't resist. I see you have Caleb added to your brood. I should have Biscuit in a few weeks. Congrats again on Caleb's win!
  • GoGoRainbow

Caleb is one of the most beautiful cardigans I have seen. He looks like a tiger! I'm partial to Pembroke's but he's got me swaying.
  • Gail and Ashton

Greetings from Eastern Washington! Hope the holidays are treating you and your entire corgi crew well. Just wanted to stop by and say hello and thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures. They are absolutely gorgeous! If you get a chance please drop me a note with the address of your shop so next time we are over on your side of the state we can stop in for a visit! Happy holidays! <3
  • John Wolff

Wow, Riley & Caleb make the bigtime...Corgi Pic of the Day! Next, Time magazine Dog of the Year.... lovely photos thanks for sharing.
  • Laura

You have such beautiful dogs I love looking at your photos!
  • Lawren and Teddy

    Aren't those you two boys?
  • Lawren and Teddy

I knew it! I visit that site everyday and when I saw it this morning, I went "Wait. I've seen those beautiful Cardis before!" The look on Simon's face is great. Great shot.
  • John Wolff

I've wondered if the low-slung corgi can handle steep terrain better than a long-legged dog... with practice, they seem to have no problem.
I really admire your professional-looking photos of Simon and Caleb... as soon as they make a Nikon DSLR with an f1.8 lens that weighs 6 oz., fits in my pocket, and costs $100 on Craigslist, I'm gonna get one and figure out how to use it, sure!

Al & Gwyn say "Rowrrff" to Sim & Cal.
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Thanks for the compliment on Lance on the Waggle video :) You have some really photogenic corgis yourself!!!
  • Beth

I am sorry you feel my "anger" makes it hard to read my posts. I actually wasn't angry at all when I posted that.

Comments also don't come in a vacuum; sometimes there is more in the history than meets the eye.

Your dogs are lovely. Take care.
  • Beth

Well, I would agree there is much information on both sides that is lost. I thought you were talking to me because the response was to my post, and I took the "you" as a direction at me; perhaps you meant it in the third person plural. :-) I have seen Joanna around the intertubes starting debates with dog-hunting people on their own blogs, so I guess I figure she enjoys the debate, or she would not be doing that.

    Take care.
  • John Wolff

    wta blog
Hey shepdog, you did SAR with Gabriel, right? Did you catch this absurd rescue on Granite Mt last Saturday? Buried avalanche victim calls in his own rescue on a cell phone. Found alive after 4+ hours?! I had to doublecheck the dateline to make sure it wasn't 4/1/10.
If I got it right, an avy dog hit on him very quickly. Bet somebody's really proud of their dog.
It would be interesting to hear more about this from the SAR and dog handler's point of view.
  • Chris West

You're dogs are just beautiful!! Seriously, you should have a calendar made for your petstore featuring pics of your corgis. I will totally buy at least 5!! Amazing looking dogs!!!
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Congrats for corgi picture of the day!! I was wondering if I could have your permision to copy and print a couple of your pictures for a corgi collage I want to create and put in Lances room. I was thinking probably #2 and 3 in the slideshow on your page.
  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Your Very Welcomed!!! Awww, shucks...thanks, we appreciate your compliments.... :)

You have a very good looking herd of corgis, yourself!!!! :)
  • Chris West

The discussion just started, I thought you should post on in because you have to most amazing corgi photos that I have ever seen!!

  • Chris West

Congratulations on getting corgi pic of the day!!!
  • Bonnie Mills

  • Elizabeth

Thanks :) Just curious, what color is Simon's non-merle parent? His dark reddish points are so stunning. Our favorite Cardi coats are reds (including red brindles) and blues. Your Caleb has a beautiful coat. My red Jon Farleigh's maternal grandfather is a gorgeous red brindle in Australia.
  • Elizabeth

Yes, I know what you mean. We never intended to get a red or a fluff, and now that I have one, I think he is spectacular. :)

Hope to see Simon in the 2011 calendar!
  • Cindy

Yeapers, that was the ad we had in I think, last year's fall Cardigan Bulletin. Hoping that in the next year or so we can do another one, this time showing off a few of his kids too! He's kind of a special boy to a few of us.
  • Bev Levy

so sorry about the loss of your other kitty! I know what you mean about the vet bills...never ending! the kitten is adorable and I love that Simon is so enamored. We had that years ago with our Standard Poodle and one of our cats and it was always so sweet to see them together. It is an added plus that they are both so photogenic!
  • Chris West

    Thank You Note
  • Chris West

This gift was supposed to say - Thank you so SO much for all the wonderful pictures you share with us on this site. I think they are absolutely beautiful! My husband is so sick of hearing "Honey! Honey, come look! Shepdog posted new photos! You have to see this!" LOL! You should make a 365 day calendar, I would buy one for everyone I know!! - but it wouldn't let me attach the message lol
  • John Wolff

Hey Shepdog,  I reckon you've already got a camera bag, but Al won us this neat LowePro Slingshot200 camera bag  in the Washington Trails Ass'n photo contest -- thanks to ballot-box stuffing by MyCorgi.com.  I have no use for it, so you can have it for a donation to local corgi rescue (if we can figure a way to get it across the Sound).  Else I'll unload it on CraigsList.

    It's a serious-looking bag, single-strap over-the-shoulder bag, like a small-medium daypack, $110 list:   http://products.lowepro.com/product/SlingShot-200%20AW,2035.htm

Do you know anything about local corgi rescue?  I was thinking CPWCC.

  • John Wolff

Carrie Hale bred our 2 Pems, she's VP of CPWCC; I'll ask her about rescue contributions.

I love your photography.  I have to stick with cheap point-and-shoots 'cause I keep destroying them.  My little Canon A590 now shows spots on all pics, maybe from internal condensation?  Impossible to clean.  The body is cracked, too, sealed with glue.  Bronze-Age digital photography.

  • Rebecca

boy he is absolutley beautiful, gorgeous eyes.
  • Rebecca

Hi*** Could you tell me who the breeder is that you got Simon from and where they are lcoated. I am interested in a Cardi.  And also is your pet store on line.

    Thanks

  • Lance, Tucker & Kristin

Hello, your corgi's are adorable! How have you been doing? :]
  • Lance, Tucker & Kristin

Oh, I am so sorry about your loss! How old was she? Well, at least she lived pasted Christmas like the vet's thought she wouldn't! But, It must be hard and if you ever need anyone to talk to you can talk to me. Just post the blog when you are comfortable because the first couple of months is going to be hard, but the pain will go away little by little with time. The only thing that won't go away is the memories and all the joy your female corgi has given you. :]

Everything has been going pretty well over here expect the fact that I have been sick with strep throat since about Tuesday and a little on Monday. On Tuesday was my cousin's first birthday, so I was able to wish her a happy birthday but for the rest of the day I felt lousy. So I just pretty much, went back to sleep and took naps since I took off of school for a couple of days. I am so ready to go back tomorrow though, since I have had nothing to do and I am feeling better again.

Awwh, thank you! Do you have a flickr account? I have been trying to get people to notice my pictures on there, because sometimes, I forget to upload photo's on here. lol

What kind of camera do you use, is it a type of dslr camera? I was looking into getting one for my photography class next year, but since I am a beginner, I have no idea which one to get. lol

Hope to talk to you soon! :]

  • Ollie & Prie Misra

What a gorgeous pack you have! And great shots of them! Any advice to throw my way on adding a pup or 2x the corgi fur?? I have a 10 month old male PWC (Ollie) and we're looking forward to adding a pup from the same parents (likely a sister, tho I'm open to a boy if there aren't any girls in the litter or if there's a runt) when Ollie is about 13 months old... I'm so nervous about it but your 4 make it look so wonderful!!
  • John Wolff

Gwynnie & Al are sad to hear about Piper.

    Hello Sheepdog,
I really enjoyed your picture on the calendar!
I have your page separated from the calendar and hope you are willing to do a SWOP.
I can send you your page, if you could send me the the page of my pup - Radar, Portsmouth, RI (March).

  • Natalie, Lance &Tucker

Congrats on your newest addition, Temperance.   She is beautiful, to compliment the rest of your beautiful crew!!!  Hubby and I are jealous you now have two blue merles.  We thought we would end up with either a brindle or blue merle as our second corgi, but we found Tucker, and it was just meant to be!!

  • John Wolff

    You named a puppy Temperance?

    Better lock your liquor cabinet.

    :)

    She's gawjus.

  • Courtney and Zoe

You have such wonderful photos of such beautiful corgis! :)

  • John Wolff

So did Tempe come from the same kennel as Simon & Caleb?  I know the cardi world is pretty small.  I did meet one at Green Lake this month.  Mistook it for a huge tailed Pem.  I'd thought I'd immediately recognize a cardi by the ears.
  • Roman Trinidad

you take real beautiful pictures are you professional?
