We have been married for 16 years and Malibu is our first dog. We have 2 children daughter just started college and son is a junior in HS. Should I say 4 children including the pups. LOL
Sprague's Malibu By The Bay (AKA MALIBU) is our first dog and corgi. Her birthday is 11/26/06. She loves going to the dog park and running on the beach.
C-Myste Baledwr Whomping Willow (AKA CAPTAIN) is our newest addition. He was born on Oct 21, 2008. He is a Blue Merle.
Both are Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Malibu will be herding soon and Captain will be heading to the show ring.
Too bad you guys couldn't make the meet up this weekend in SF! Enjoy Point Isabel though, it's one of our favorite parks :) Bring a jacket as it can get breezy there. Have fun!
Thanks, Camber is getting better more comfortable each week. I doubt she'll ever get to the level of playing with toys and treats, but she is at least somewhat happy to see me when I get home from work. She use to run to the other end of the house when I get home, now she is in the same room as the door!
Hello there, yes we were there at the herding test! Malibu is a sweetheart! How did she do? Stanford was a hoot and just wanted to run around the sheep. We had a fun time. Hope you did, too.
Hi there...Thank you for the nice comment on Koa. We took the picture at Dillon beach, just south of Bodega Bay. It's great...the dogs can be off leash and there's a hodge-podge of different dogs to play with!
we got carly from a place callet pet vacations in jamestown ca. They have been our kennel of choice for a couple years now. the owners love corgi's have a few themselves and take in unwanted dogs for adoption. they both work at a local vet Sierra Vet Care in sonora and if they don't have a corgi they probably know where to find one looking for a new home. where are you a medic at?
cool brudda, i was emt in scco for a bit and just went medic in the same place. u know a guy kris rafferty? he was a partner til he got picked up by coco fire if you do say hi. dam cute dogs!
Thank you so much for the nice comment. I apologize for taking so long to respond back. Bandit has become a wonderful companion to all of us. He keeps me honest with my daily walks now. He is so full of energy I don't dare turn back too soon. And I do think Jared did well in choosing a corgi. They are very unique and completely irresistible.
Actually Harlly got her 4 month shots last monday! so we were able to go on a walk today! We are also taking her for private lessons with a dog trainer who lives around here. She is really so smart. shes quite a little biter though. Thats all she wants to do is nip at people. She is still my little baby though. I hope everything is well with you and your litle malibu, She is adorable!
Thanks for the great compliment on Lance! We just adore him, didnt know what a blue merle was until we got him and now we are hooked!! Malibu is just adorable and your pictures, I love! Congratulations on your blue merle....how exciting!!! : )
We got him from a breeder in New Mexico. You aren't by chance getting yours from there are you? I know the other couple waiting for a blue from the same breeder is in CA but I'm not sure what area.
Oh ok. We got him from New Mexico because there was a litter to include blues around the time we were looking to get one and we loved the look of the parents so it seemed like a good match. There are a couple breeders in Az but only one of them breeds for blues and she has a waiting list almost 2 years long! I can't wait to see the blue boy you end up with. Oregon will be much prettier than New Mexico was. :)
I talk to Jennifer every now and then when I have questions. She definitely knows her Cardis. Our breeder is great too but sometimes it's nice to be able to get a 2nd opinion on things. I'd love to get into showing but for the time being I will settle for just having a great pet cardigan and watching the dog shows on TV. To me, the biggest drawback to showing is not being able to alter the dog. I can't imagine having an un neutered male in the house. What a mess! :) I look forward to seeing your new show boy!
Captain is adorable, congratulations! How's the ear taping giong? We only taped Finn's 3 times, one day each. They are up or the most part but we may need to tape them again. I just hate having to do it because he doesn't like it and it pulls his fur out when we remove the tape. :(
Are you going to be breeding them in the future? I was just reading over color genetics and had no idea that you should never breed to merles together. I didn't read that much into it since I don't have Cardigans but pretty similar to the Paint horse genetics on some of the color combinations.
*laughs* Aw, well, I'm happy to have both my rescues - they're great dogs, and I'm lucky that they ended up with me. I have a hand in our area up here for Corgi rescue too at this point; people always call me with dogs that show up in the shelter here. Not many, thank goodness... not like Shepherds, unfortunately.
Whoo boy are you right. Showing a dog takes it to another level. I've not showed since my Shepherd, nearly 12 years ago (done a lot of SAR and obedience, but showed, no.) However, I really want to try herding with both Simon and Riley - they do a great job on helping me pen the loose chickens. ;) *laughs* Whoo knows, we might see each other in the ring someday. I love the C-Myste dogs - have a friend with two. :)
Awww how precious! I didn't know that corgis came in that color! I am still learning...lol. Congrats! Malibu is adorable too! Love the pic of her in her halloween costume!
I live in Los Angeles and am considering getting a corgi for our family (my husband and two sons aged 13 and 16). The guys, being guys, are all up for getting a large dog like a lab, but I've loved corgis for years and think the Cardigan would be a great fit for us as the "big dog in a small body." I've been able to track down 1 breeder near us, in Santa Ana, and I'm trying to work out a time when the guys and I can go visit her and her three cardis, just so we can all get a sense of what they're really like up close and personal. I get the sense, though, that this is not an active breeder.
I wanted to ask you, did you get your beautiful cardis from a breeder in California, and if so, where? There aren't a whole lot of breeders listed for California on the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Association of America site. And if you got your dogs from out of state, how did you check out things like who the parents are, which puppies have which disposition, etc?
I look forward to your response; I've never seen a website with so many knowledgeable and generous-hearted people as this one!
Thanks for the response. I probably will try Oregon and Arizona, and I will definitely look up Jennifer. I'd love to go for a rescue, but I'm thinking for our first family dog, and knowing the corgi can be a challenge, I'd like to go with the knowledge and support of a good breeder.
Now I just have to get my gang on board (and find the money!)
Thanks again. Enjoy the new little guy--he's got killer blue eyes!
I didn't realize Sage was related to your pup. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember seeing little Sage on the breeders site and thinking that color was very unique. I don't think I've seen a Cardi that lite. Sage is a cutie though! I checked out some of the pics on Kathy's site. Corgis make the cutest puppies. :)
Hello and thanks for the welcome! I can't wait for the day we bring her home! She already has 2 anxious brothers (cats) who are ready for a sister! LOL
I found the Blew Crew group, but wasn't sure how to join it.
