What a sweet little guy! Congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy life together. Potty training does take a lot of effort, but it's worth it, of course. I kept my guys in their crates for the first year or so unless I could be right with them, and took them out every 1 1/2 - 2 hours for a potty break. They are smart and they picked up the Good Dog! response quickly. I also have a command, Go Pee!, which really helped to get them to focus when they wanted to noodle around outside for a long time. My favorite puppy training book is Mother Knows Best by Carol Lea Benjamin. It's an oldie but her approach makes a lot of sense to me.
