Penny (the one on the right), was a show dog for the first two years of her life. Her breeder/trainer regarded her as an investment, not a pet. Penny was not neglected, just not loved. She won a few prizes, but when it became apparent that she wouldn’t be going to Westminster her owner just turned her loose in the back yard. She got all her shots and too much food so she was pretty fat when I got her.
She seemed puzzled by our attempts to pet her. It was a year before she really liked having her tummy rubbed. Now she can’t get enough love! She follows me everywhere, and flips onto her back for the tummy rub whenever I sit down.
