Provide some kind of semipermanent step so he doesn't get the habit of jumping off that bed. We use (of all things) a stepstool. You want to avoid growth-plate injuries in the wrists before, say, 1 year old, and back injuries as he ages. Easy does it. You can train them to use the step.
