The red dot marks where we turned back the day before with our tails between our legs (quite a feat, as neither has a tail, and one of use scarcely has legs). This sandy spot is at the end of the old Foam Basin sheep trail, and might actually be persistent erosional damage from sheep overgrazing in the early 20th century. Perhaps Al senses the kindred spirits of herding dogs long past.
