I figured it was because of how slippery the hardwood floor is - he's fine on the area rug but pops out on the first weave off the carpet.
He does make the shuffle sound - easy to tell where he is and where he's going!

Beca,maybe because of his foot-dragging issue?Our Keri,has an exaggerated shuffle on hardwood,You can hear her throughout the entire house!
