Benchmark Mtn., 5800'. 8 miles, mostly on snow. Like a sunny beach with a better view. We decided to stop here at 2:30, watch the sun move, spend the night, and get in touch with our Inner Vegetables.
Stunning 360-degree view includes 3 volcanoes. The big distant peak is Mt. Stuart, the highest non-volcanic peak in Washington state. In little over a month, this ridge will be bone-dry and the growing season will be over.
Snow travel about 6 miles, firm enough for the dog; did not bother her paws. 6/12/10
