3 days of perfect freedom in perfect weather, Glacier Peak Wilderness.
Al claims the first failure on Glacier Peak's Disappointment Peak route by a Pembroke Welsh corgi without supplemental oxygen.
Camp I on a 7740' summit.
On Day 2, we turned back at 9:00 AM at 9200'; it was just too rocky and loose. Good decision, no place for a dog (I blame all my failures, and bad smells, on the dog). Al could've done it easily on the glacier (other climbers were doing it unroped), but that was against his better judgement -- nobody falls into a crevasse they can see. We had no rope, or partners.
Camp II was just to the right of the 6600' pass, on an old sheep-grazing trail; Al felt the spirits of sheep-herding dogs long passed. Again, perfect weather, overlooking scenes of past adventures. A day spent wandering mountains and snow in baking sun.
15 years ago, the White Chuck Glacier was stagnant but still there; now, sadly, like so many Cascade glaciers, it's nothing but rocks and snowfields.
The red & blue lines cover 4 miles -- as the crow flies. The 6600' pass is perhaps 11 miles from the car.

Taken from Portal Peak, 7000', 2:30 PM, Day 3, 11 miles from the car, time to go home. Many square miles of alpine wildflowers in full bloom, dumbfounding scenery, 26 switchbacks down into deep old-growth forest. Many revolting wild smells to roll in.
Gear notes:
Pawz booties for emergency pad injuries.
Outward Hound collapsible dog bowl.
Chillybuddy dog cooling vest.
Doggles sunglasses (he won't keep them on).
Mesheye mesh "sunglasses" (he tolerates them better).
Freeze-dried organic raw meat dog food.
Chest harness for safety belay (not used).
Quick-draw leash (not used).
El Cheapo (TM) Camp K9 dog pile sleeping bag.
