In weather like this -- near freezing -- you have to look out for snowballs on fur, tags, etc.  Not a problem when below freezing.  Dry snow sloughs off.  Above freezing, sloughs off.  Snowball conditions, watch out.

A square of ensolite foam is standard first aid gear (for keeping a victim warm).  carry accessibly, it doubles as a dog seat, helps a lot.

The belly does get wet and dirty.
