Wow, thanks, that was very helpful; hadn't thought about their long body being/physics being a part of it. So the vest certainly may be key for corgis! And we hadn't done the obvious either of giving treats. We were just hoping since 'buddy' dogs were in water, they'd want to follow and be with us too. Now we'll have some strategies for this next spring/summer. Thank you so much! Bev

oh but that probably wont happen since huskys are known to be runners ;)

Sometimes pups just don't like water hehe my parents lab hated water.. and well it was a LAB.

For Roxi when we lived in VT we would take her to the river all the time and wade out and call her to us then give her a treat. Granted she would swim back away as fast as she could hahha. It took us a long time to realize she didn't enjoy it because she was so long and her bum either sank in the river or floated away out of her control in the current. So when we moved to VA we found a store that sold dog vests.(I wanted to try them on b4 we bought one) then when we went to the lake with my brother's husky who loved to swim (and they're best friends) and had her watch apex jump in over and over while she yapped and fretted and got upset she couldn't chase her.

So eventually I picked Roxi up by the vest handle and dropped her in at the same time we got Apex to jump off the dock and that was that. She learned she could control herself finally and the vest helped her not get so tired/float away hahah.

Though we still gave them treats every time they came back. Then they ended up just jumping in together.

I hope my brother really trains apex on her callback so we can have them swim without her leash on someday.

O.K., we've had 3 corgis (currently 1 corgi - Keegan a 5 yr old male) and none of them liked water, granted we don't live near a lake, but I'd like to know how to introduce a corgi to water, so they will swim with us. We're about to acquire a new puppy in Fall 08/next couple of weeks. So maybe we can train this one
