This area is plastered with vast, very steep subalpine meadows on the south slopes. They are simply jawdropping when the flowers are peaking, as they are now. These are mountain valerians and sedges. The slopes can actually take on a colored cast -- white, purple, blue or yellow -- depending on which species is locally dominant.
