Al could've scampered across this with his eyes closed, but I belayed him with rope and harness; a slip would be fatal. He didn't understand what all the fuss was about.
Before the crossing, I tested his tight chest harness by suspending him in it by the rope, and he slipped neatly out of the harness. So I lengthened the rope so if he fell, he'd be in the water, not suspended in midair. He showed no fear or hestiation.
In 2003, there was a beautiful 4-span bridge here; my nephews and I were some of the last to cross it before the October floods wiped it out without a trace. This is how the Pacific Crest Trails crosses the Suiattle nowadays. Dangerous, but no challenge for a corgi. The water is milky because it's glacier-fed.
